In this video we share our yearly costs living Off grid in Central Portugal. This is an annual brake down from July 2020 -July2021 and we compare last year Vs this year. Even though the total was higher than last year we did better.
If you have the time check out our friend @CindyVine and support her too she is starting out on her Off -grid farm and has a lot of new adventures coming up and like us her life is on a budget and everything is new. I believe she likes coffee and is saving up for an electric pig fence to keep her lovely kune kune pigs so here are two useful links to support her.

Thanks Alice
Well done, living sustainably within your means, Thank you for sharing those numbers💜
Excellent information …thank you .!
Molly sure is a great model … very funny !
Have a great week … 🙏☘️😘
Thanks Hazel and same to you
Another excellent vlog guys. It is really useful to see how much a couple with animals can live on.
I guess in the world of home owning and keeping up with Joneses, then we believe we need alot of money to have a good life.
You and Luke have a great life on a small budget.
May your veggie plot deliver great crops to get that food bill even lower and I hope the goats dont eat Luke's pears!!!
Thanks Emma I am pretty sure the food cost will go down even more next year because we will be milking Little Suzie and Daisy and hopefully our garden will do better than this year. There were just so many things that took priority over the garden this year. have a great weekend
hi, Sarah and Luke, I love watching all the off-grid life, I would love to live in Portugal, but because of bad health and poor mobility, it won't happen. but I like to dream, thank you for all the laughs.
Ha, ha! At the end, it seemed like Molly was tasting the brambles, kind of checking out why the goats get such a kick out of eating them.
Sometimes she feels left out and likes to try to play with them it never ends well for her🤣
I absolutely love, love, love you 2 and the babies.
Thanks for watching our journey Pamela, we enjoy sharing it
the lifestyle you guys live is priceless
big luv from us guys
Thanks so much Davvid . Have a great day
this is such incredible information! Thank you so much for sharing, really gives a good idea of where you need to be financially to do this. Its something I've been researching for a few months now and I always wondered how much money it may take to maintain the lifestyle
So happy this was helpful! If there is anything you feel you need to know about this life that you can't seem to find anywhere just let us know and we will do our best to answer your questions
Yeah, biltong is fantastic and, surprise, surprise, very easy to make, especially in a warm, dry climate. Nice vid :)
I remember watching your first video about this a year ago, when we were still in Wales and thinking about whether we could make the leap to buy land in Portugal! Love how well you document your budget ☺️🌱
Thanks so much Carissa❤
Thank you guys! Love all your videos! So happy you met Cindy. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH! 🙏❤🇺🇸
😁She is a lovely lady

Thanks for watching Barbara!
Thank you so much! Really useful to know to have an idea. Love all your videos! Take good care!
Thanks 😁 have a great weekend
Love how happy you are ! Plan is to sell our house here in Canada and move to northern Portugal in about 3-5 years . Luckily I have my dual citizenship already with Portugal and lots of family out there as well. Love your videos ❤️
Sounds great! I wish you the best of luck for your future plans😁😁
I was born in South Africa and biltong is absolutely the best! Glad you guys enjoyed it.
Elma it was absolutely delicious ..I have one problem with it though. It finishes way too fast😂
Inspired by you,I’m building a (hutch/box) with netting to start drying our figs,we have always tried but not successfully some years, after seeing your video my wife was looking over my shoulder and said “ you can do that”so here we go ,we usually harvest our olives around late August in south of Spain.
Thank you both for your video’s.
Awesome Keith , let me know how it goes .Your wife is right ..Yes you can do it
Sarahx
Thanks really useful
I think you did a brilliant job managing on that budget - given that you have new animals & extra costs associated with them, plus all the building work you did this year. £500 increase a year, taking into account the rate of inflation, is barely anything!
Thanks Flowers. I thought so too but always room to save more 😁😁😁 and you are so right prices have really gone up this year
1:20 LOL. Love that. Subscribed!
Welcome to our UA-cam family Marty, Molly is certainly a character🧡🧡
@@lukeandsarahsoffgridlife Dogs are the best. Hoping to make it to Portugal before I go insane. :)
love the goats fooling around :D very reasonable budget for sure
definetly NOT a fail... you live 2 people for that... I used to have some ponies and chickens... but it costs WAY more where I live (but also have car payment which is like half your budget a year)
I would love to get more footage of them jumping around like crazy but i never seem to have the camera on at the right moment.
@@lukeandsarahsoffgridlife hanging around the neck :D problem solved so we can have loads more silly antics from the goaties
Great video and thank you for working out the costs. Can you grow more sunflowers? I’m thinking food source for animals and maybe bio diesel.
Thanks Peru Nut.
Last year we grew a whole field of them and they were beautiful as well as a good food source but with the summers so hot and worried the well would dry up we stopped watering them around mid August ,we will grow them again one day when we are not relying on only one well for our water source .We have to be smart when it come to water usage during the summer months
Ok❤
It’s good to see how well you have done with keeping costs down. Do you not have any local taxes to pay?
We do have land tax but they are so small for now until we rebuild the ruin and then they will come and inspect it after the project is done and then we are sure our taxes will go much higher
Yeah for Cindy and the BILTONG!!!!
😁😁🧡🧡
Pest dog collars are worthless in the countryside, the Advantix liquid pipettes are better but a bit more expensive.
Will check it out ,thanks for the tip
Do you use pesticides for your pears? Good job on the budget. There is always some unexpected emergency
Indeed there is. We havent used any pesticides at all on our land. Looking forward to our first nashi pears. I hope they make it to harvest. Looking good so far
@@lukeandsarahsoffgridlife It's wonderful that you don't use pesticides. They do look good. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Goats are great for Biltong and Curry so in time you should be able to make lots ':)
Thanks
Tabaccoplants grow very fast. Make your own tabasco!
Hi Poke.. i did try this year but all my seedlings died. Will try again next year 😁
Good Info…🌀❤️🌀
I think insurance going up every year is becoming the norm, gone are they days of them going down for driving like miss Daisy 😂
If you get some goat poop, mix it in some water and then flick it on your fruit trees etc the goats wont eat it 🙂
Love this Alex! Will definitely be flicking goat poop all over the place.🤣🤣🤣
Thanks guys, think we can do some cooking shows together!
We will do something together soon 😁
Iv always put away 500 bucks a year for the car .sometimes you spend it sometimes you dont but you have it and don't have to come up with as much out of pocket
That is so true Stan😁
Great job, guys!!!
Thanks Lunar .Our Yurt never tore, it is solid and amazing we sleep in it and use it as a store room right now but our bell tent had ripped all the way from the top to the bottom one stormy night a year and a half ago and we drove to Spain and bought the yurt we have now the very next day
Love the door on the yurt . I used to work with a Luke that was a chef in at Julian's that really looks like you Luke ...could you be the very same Luke ?
Could be.. whats your name four tails?
@@lukeandsarahsoffgridlife Simone. I worked at Terrazza for about 6 months , some 13 years or so ago .
Haha.. i dont remember you but i worked at terrazza twice as head chef haha.. so must be me where are you from?
@@lukeandsarahsoffgridlife lol..I wasn't expecting you to remember me as I know how fast the turn over of staff can be in the catering industry. At the time I was living in B'kara ( not far from Louise ) but moved to Rabat. Your sister in law might remember me as we were friends & she came to a party at mine once ( she bought me a key holder that still hangs behind my door 😊) Anyway mate..small world. Glad you are doing well in these crazy times. I look forward to following your & Sarah's & Molly's 🤗 journey. Take care
Wow im really curious now. Im sure i would recognize you if i saw your face lol. Yes we went through a lot of staff hahah
Hi you should make a video with the breakdown of your UA-cam, Patreon and other revenues
Thanks for the suggestion carter but dont see how that would help anyone..this vid is there so people can see how much it costs to live a simple life in portugal
@@lukeandsarahsoffgridlife No problem... will take a look on the socialblade website
Meant to sayFigs not Olives sorry, our olives we harvest December/ January xx
that makes more sense 😂
Can you tell what part of central Portugal you are in?
Castelo Branco region
What do you prefer? Earning more or spending less?
We are working on both 🤣🤣🤣
Quiting smoking can be tough ! If it makes you feel better in my province an average pack of cigarettes is about $20 Canadian (25 cigarettes per pack) which works out to be 13 euros. So for how much you spent on tobacco would only buy you roughly 12 packs here 😂
Wow Daniel that is crazy expensive
😍😎🌻🇨🇦
