The Dead Don’t Hurt is a story of star-crossed lovers on the western U.S. frontier in the 1860s. Vivienne Le Coudy (Vicky Krieps) is a fiercely independent woman who embarks on a relationship with Danish immigrant Holger Olsen (Viggo Mortensen). After meeting Olsen in San Francisco, she agrees to travel with him to his home near the quiet town of Elk Flats, Nevada, where they start a life together. The outbreak of the civil war separates them when Olsen makes a fateful decision to fight for the Union. This leaves Vivienne to fend for herself in a place controlled by corrupt Mayor Rudolph Schiller (Danny Huston) and his unscrupulous business partner, powerful rancher Alfred Jeffries (Garrett Dillahunt). Alfred’s violent, wayward son Weston (Solly McLeod) aggressively pursues Vivienne, who is determined to resist his unwanted advances. When Olsen returns from the war, he and Vivienne must confront and make peace with the person each has become. Both a tragic love story and a nuanced depiction of the conflict between revenge and forgiveness, The Dead Don’t Hurt is a portrait of a passionate woman determined to stand up for herself in an unforgiving world dominated by ruthless men.

Still rooting on Viggo to win that Oscar one day
He got one for The Green Book or whatever that garbage was. Mahershala Ali was exceptional, and I love Viggo, but I’d rather see Viggo win for this, when Ali, who is also EXCEPTIONAL, deserved for that (despite it not being a great film, Ali shined).
He should've got one for The Green Book (I think it won an Oscar for best film). His acting was incredible.
@@louisevanderlinde8590 he deserved it for Eastern Promises as well back in 2008. Would’ve gotten it any other year if he wasn’t competing against Daniel day Lewis
@@aragornskywalker6058 didn't see that one. Will now. Thanks.
@@louisevanderlinde8590 your in for a treat. It’s easily his best performance
Viggo don't miss, with acting, writing, and directing.
And composing too. Lol.
@ObiKKa literally everything. So much talent and such a kind and intellectual man. Will always look at him as Aragorn the most but I've made it a point to try and see every role he's done when I have the opportunity
This looks GREAT! We don’t get enough westerns these days….not enough GOOD ones anyway.
The Sisters Brothers was a good recent western. I'm looking forward to that Kevin Costner movie that's releasing in two parts.
@@KlingonCaptain The Coens have made a few excellent westerns.
TRUE GRIT [my Dad & I will never agree about which version is best - obviously he's deluded to prefer the original over the remake.
THE BALLAD OF BUSTER SCRUGGS. 6 short stories that are all miniature masterpieces of filmmaking.
NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. Set in 1980, often in relatively contemporary urban areas, and concerned with modern issues [drugs] BUT it's definitely a 'Western'.
Have you seen true grit, django there good and the hateful8 even though it's a piss take
Godless too
@@paulleverton9569 The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is a damn fine movie. No Country and True Grit, hell yes. I’d still consider Unforgiven, Tombstone, Open Range and one of, if not THE finest EVER: Lonesome Dove. Even though those aren’t COMPLETELY ‘these days’ movies, I forget sometimes it ain’t the 90s anymore so I’m gonna keep my head down and go right on forgetting……
Filmed in Durango, MX, my State. This shows our beautiful places as locations and it's really exciting for me!
I can see places like Mexiquillo, El Saltito falls, Salto de Agua llovida falls, "La Joya" ranch with his wonderful mountains behind the Viggo's cabbin. Another places like "Viejo Oeste", Chupaderos, and some others were amazingly portrayed here... Thanks a lot, Mr. Viggo Mortensen! Come anytime to film again here.
Must be cool man
Now THAT is a trailer, and how they should be done! Got the backstory, the emotions, the conflict............ bravo.
My brother. My Captain. My King! Looking forward to it!
Finally. Actors acting and no cgi.
Kid was fake.
There is CG in this trailer. In the first 20 seconds even.
There is CGI, but done right.
I adore Viggo Mortensen. His abilities are eminence.
Viggo a true artist!!!!
Yes Viggo directing again
Looks like a great western, I cant wait!
I like how most of the actors have authentic accents from their character's home countries as most of the people in the West at that time were immigrants and wouldn't necessarily have assimilated fully then.
Good point.
I also like how the characters use authentic 1860s terms like "consolation prize" in everyday speech./sarc
@@scottcarroll9201 The term consolation prize dates back to the 1850s.
@@nancyjobes6807 I’ve found one reference to “1850s”,” every other site has its first usage as 1886. And since 1886 is more precise than “1850s” I’m going to say that the phrase’s usage in this movie is anachronistic.
Nice to see westerns taking the spotlight again Kevin costner has a new one coming out and now this as well can't wait!
Chilling and dark, love it already!
Looks really good! But thanks to the trailer i know already everything
it is so so annoying!
I met Viggo in ClarkFork, Idaho about a year ago, and he was the coolest, most humble dude. I will definitely watch this.
After Viggo Mortensen has been in really good movies, especially The Lord of the Rings, him writing and directing this western that looks really good is awesome!!!
Directed by - Viggo Mortensen
Written by - Viggo Mortensen
Produced by - Viggo Mortensen
Starring - Viggo Mortensen
Music by - Viggo Mortensen
But gonna be awesome unlike Steven Seagal.
Viggo Mortensen presents Viggo Mortensen's Viggo Mortensen. A Viggo Mortensen Production. (c) Viggo Mortensen.
Viggo is not a good director, his first movie could have been amazing but was the example of how to ruin a good script and outstanding actors, and now I don't think a western is a good choice, besides it looks weird and artificial.
Key Grip - Viggo Mortensen
Wow, a trailer and a theatrical release. Very nice.
It looks like a good old classic western
not even particularly a fan of westerns, but as others have pointed out, this is a movie lover's movie. looking forward to it.
This should be a good one. Viggo always delivers.
Viggo Mortenson literally has a different accent in every movie that I have seen him in. Truly an underrated actor.
Wow! Looks really good. Viggo is the best.
Filmed in Durango México ❤
This looks darrrk. Definitely going to go see this. love a good western.
VIGGO is back from APPALOOSA
vigo amigo mio... tu sabes we got your back... saludos from harlem brotha... yatusa ! yatusa !
Written and Directed by Viggo Mortensen 😮 This shall be Green Book level pro acting and story! Looking forward
Looks awesome!!
Really looking forward to this. Viggo's films are always good.
Looks amazing!! Written and Directed by Viggo already had my attention! Definitely watching this movie!
En México la podremos ver?
Pues aquí grabamos ❤😊👏👏👏🇲🇽
Oh my goodness! Can’t wait for this!
Love Viggo, be great to see him do more!
Danny Huston is underutilized as an actor. Always stoked to see him in a film.
Viggo is Amazing!
Just remembered how groundbreaking Unforgiven was.
looks awesome! can't wait!
Damn Shout! stepping up thier game this looks amazing!
This is gonna be a banger!
I’ll be there. Love Viggo
Viggo was excellent in 'Green Book', in which he received a Best Actor nom, and looking forward to another gr8 performance in this sprawling western :)
Viggo is so good. This one looks like a winner.
that's Durango, Mexico. I have to watch it of course .
When I read the title and saw the thumbnail I thought this was a zombie western with Aargorn… now I want a RDR1 DLC movie adaptation
King Viggo back with a bang! Can't wait!!
Aragorn returns from retirement to figure out why the dead don't hurt.
A seemingly predictable plot so far but it still looks great and I'll support Viggo in any and all of his projects.
Bearded Viggo riding a horse, count me in.
Bravo Viggo!
From the thumbnail I honestly thought this was about Micah from Red Dead 2, from 15 seconds in I still had the same thought and got very excited. I'm a newbie to RD2 but not to Westerns and this still looks like a lot of fun! Can't wait
Western directed by Viggo holy fk, thats a must watch right there
Looks really good.
Wonder when we'll get it in the UK?
that looks really good!
Looks great. As the quote said feels like a deconstruction in the same vein as unforgiven and i can't think of a more consistent actor than viggo.
Last project i recall like this was three burials of melquiedes estrada
I'm already pissed! Anything with Viggo I'll watch.
WHAT A CAST! Three DEADWOOD legends [Dillahunt played two different characters, both brilliantly!] with Danny Huston, Viggo Mortensen and Vicky 'Phantom Thread; Krieps.
If TDDH isn't available for home streaming within 1 week of its cinema release, I'm going to the Movie Theater to see it on the big screen.
And I don't even think it's the type of film that NEEDS to be seen at a cinema, with huge screen/surround sound - such as DUNE, OPPENHEIMER or NAPOLEON.
I'll put myself through the commute, tolerate queueing to pay a rip off cinema ticket price, then miss home comforts (beer/vaping) simply because I cannot wait to see it.
We are two of us, buddy.
Just this day got onto the Red Dead 2 epilogue so this feels like very good timing.
If it's Viggo, I'm there!
Very Nice ❤
This on has the climax of 50s
westers like a
Last train from Gun hill with the stars Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn.
Wow!
Looking forward to this 👀 But why does IMDB show 2023 as release date?
Captain Fantastic!
Viggo at the Helm. This looks good.
It's great, we will have 3 great westerns in 2024. 2 parter movie from Kevin Costner and now another one from Vigo Mortensen! Can't wait!
Plus Rust of course.
This looks really promising
Oh, i miss viggo 😍😍😍
wow… just wow
Anyone else surprised this looks amazing?? Didn't think so. Viggo ❤
Looks like a real happy movie.
1:49 double grunt
Viggo Mortenson could carry a show like Yellowstone if he wanted.
Thank god he doesn't want to. He does what he does
@nialldevaney9524 I really wish he starred in more things. The guy deserves all the accolades.
À VOIR!!! 😎👍
Looks great. Too bad they show the whole movie in the trailer.
this looks good
i dig a good western
YES we need another good modern Western, we haven’t gotten great ones since the 3:10 to Yuma remake and True Grit, though News of the World and Hostiles was really good too. Viggo Mortensen knows his scripts
Most remakes end up terrible, but I was surprised at how good the 3:10 to Yuma and True Grit remakes were.
Is this his 3rd western film Viggo started?!
good trailer ,actors also good ! no way i won t watch
This looks like an awesome movie
One like for the actress . Reminds me of my sister .
genial. una Zama que se entiende
This looks good...........
STOP SHOWING THE WHOLE MOVIE IN TRAILORS
Hail to the King Aragorn
More westerns please
Viggo Mortensen again a cowboy I have to see this 😎
looks good. but why show us half of the movie?
I’ve heard that audio of that women screaming before some where at the start of the trailer
It looks good. I only take issue with 1:55; western movies have been deconstructed since the 70's. It is not a new thing.
Well, one could argue that there have been different "movements" of deconstruction in the History of Western Movies. This film probably shares some similarities with Unforgiven in it's approach. But I agree with your comment. I would say the first major deconstruction happened way back in the 50s with the Anthony Mann westerns starred by James Stewart and then The Searchers by John Ford. That was when the gallant heroes of the old west gave way to more flawed protagonists, often with a darkness in their hearts. Then came Sergio Leone and the Italians in the 60s, and then Sam Peckinpah and the New Hollywood generation.
I just watched the movie....
Oh my god Red Dead Redemption 2 in a movie XD. This movie has rockstar inspiration without any doubt
like a french Jeremiah Johnson, ok ... im in
Finally a Red Dead Redemption movie
A great cautionary tale about why you don't leave your family behind to go and fight a war that isn't yours.
If you come to America, Our Wars are your wars. No free ride
Yep exactly
1:54 "Deconstruct the western the same way Unforgiven does" - Andy Howell, Film Threat
So why we should watch film who does the same thing as another 30 years old film?
This looks awesome! If it ends as a cannibal horror 3rd act, even better.
It does look awesome, to the first part and I understand this reference, to the second part.
You are what you eat!
IF ITS VIGGO WE ARE WATCHING
