FILM DESCRIPTION:
Two bicyclists are run down by a strange black car in the desert near a small town in Utah. But this is just the first in a series of hit-and-run murders. Sheriff Wade Parents (James Brolin) is called in to investigate, and his deputy, Everett (John Marley), is killed by the black sedan, which, some witnesses say, has no one behind its wheel. When the car threatens a local school parade, the lives of the town's children and Wade's teacher girlfriend, Lauren (Kathleen Lloyd), are endangered.

The only thing that can stop “The Car” is the gas prices today.
Well being that it's demon-possessed, I somehow doubt that it runs on gas when it obviously fueled by dark spirit energy.
The car can roam free as it dows not require gas.
It stops everyone else so we would have a movie of the car crashing into sitting ducks.

I remember seeing this film when I was a kid. The Car scared me shitless, mostly because of the loud noise.

Me 2 I first watched it in 1991 when I was 5 years old .I must have seen it 15 times since then. Between introducing it to many girlfriends and friends who never seen it .and it always satisfied them

Kudos to the late great Elliot Silverstein. He directed episodes of The Twilight Zone (The Obsolete Man, Spur of the Moment, and The Passerby), Tales From The Crypt (The Reluctant Vampire, A Pair of Hams) and Cat Ballou. He had the skill to pull it off.

I always felt like Bruce the Shark from Jaws (1975), Michael Myers from Halloween (1978), and The Car from (1977) where the same. They always came back no matter what and I feel like that they where ethier immortal or could resurrect themselves. All three still terrifies me today even after 40 years of their releases.

This is why to be polite and respectful to your vehicle whenever you change it's oil or check it's sparkplugs. Also, sit down and talk with your vehicle before you trade it in for a newer model - it could extend your life expectancy dramatically.
Awareness and appreciation of Car's Rights began in the 70s, and we must keep moving forward with it, in overdrive.

It used to play a lot when I was a kid but haven’t seen it on tv in decades. Always loved it though.
CLASSIC.
“Duel” is another good one. It’s about an 18 wheeler chasing Dennis Weaver all over the place trying to kill him. You never really know if the truck is possessed or if it has someone in the cab because you never see the driver

They made a sequel where the soul of the posessed car transfers into another vehicle. The Moped didn't get the same respect.

That car is absolutely dead silent until it revs the engine. You can faintly hear it idling.
Ever notice how when he jumped on the motorcycle and took off at 3:26, he WASN'T wearing a helmet? When it showed him again, a few blocks up the street, he WAS wearing it.
This clip cuts off just before the scene where he puts his helmet on. He does while riding with no hands. In fact clip 9 starts off with him doing just that.

This scene is strange and inexplicable. The car could kill the policeman instantly, in fact, the car has been merciless on many occasions killing its victims quickly. But here he plays a kind of game, as if he was having fun. What could his goal be?

This used to send shivers down my spine watching this when I was younger. That horn noise will always be etched into my mind.
So….he shuts a perfectly good door that he could’ve literally walked right through to escape, and instead tries to pry the front doors open with a murdering car behind him. Makes perfect sense. 😂

That’s good acting! James Brolin’s eyes. The car should have won an Oscar. The car’s acceptance speech: car horn getting louder. The car needs anger management training. I will have to wear brown underwear.
When I saw this movie years ago as a kid and then a teen, I had no idea what the hell it was trying to do in this scene. It kept honking his horn and making all these loud, unpleasant noises. I mean I got the idea when Wade and his children immediately covered their ears but my mom confirmed it when she told me that it was trying to burst their ears. Extremely loud noises can either make you deaf or destroy your eardrums, the latter which can kill you. Cause I never understood why it didn't just run over Wade right there when he is trapped in the garage with it. I believe the idea crossed its mind but then it thought of a different strategy to take him out. This sadistic thing. Smh.
It was trying to do, but it was also reeving its engine to fill the place up with carbon monoxide, which is deadly to humans.

🙏 I remember watching this movie might be in 1977/78 along with many of my friends. At that time I was earning a good fortune in Mumbai (then Bombay) and was 22 years old. I wanted all my friends to watch this movie and so I took all of them to watch it at my home town Pune (Maharashtra state, India) city’s best theatre at that time ‘Rahul theatre’. We all were occupying a complete row of seats in the balcony. I remember they all were stunned after watching it. ‘Rahul theatre’ at that time was the only one who had a 70mm screen with stereophonic sound system and was opened for screening movies in the year 1972 and the 1st movie which was screened was ‘Winning’ featuring ‘Paul Newman’ in the lead role and was about car racing. I had watched many many ‘Hollywood’ movies screened there and I still cherish those old times. Thank you 🙏
