  • Discover the secrets of growing capsicum pepper plants as perennial vegetables in your garden for optimal crop results! While it's not widely known, capsicum plants, belonging to the genus Capsicum, can have an average lifespan of 6-10 years. The duration depends on environmental conditions and species characteristics. In our 5b Ontario climate zone, I've successfully grown these plants as annuals. By starting them from seeds indoors in February and transplanting seedlings outdoors in mid-May after the last frost, I've achieved abundant pepper berries. However, in our climate, they typically remain green until September, with little chance of turning red on the plant. Join me as I share my experience and insights into maximizing capsicum pepper yields in your garden!. #capsicum #bellpeppers #hotpepper #gardeningtips #perennialplants #vegetablegarden

Over wintering peppers is a good thing. For aphids, look into JADAM organic, natural pest control - it is DYI and cheap. I thinking you are putting your peppers out too early. I am in 8B and do after father's day - and later if night time temperatures are less than 52 F. Or cover and use a hot house. They will be shocked by lower temps and just sit there if put out too early.
