We Were Robbed! Weekend Vlog

  • Last weekend started with quite a jolt. Woke up to find someone had gone into our backyard and stolen our brand new table saw.
Once we got over that we had some other things to do around the house. We finally took the time to organize and clean our office. After a big life transition recently, we just kinda threw things together and never really took the time to "move in" to the office. We spent time to rearrange and find a layout that worked for both of us, and gave everything a deep clean.
Of course, no weekend is complete without a few projects. Our attic door (hatch) has been a problem since we moved in. It’s always leaked a lot of heat. So Rodney went about building a new one from project scraps around the yard.
    Happy Fathers Day!

So sorry to hear about your experience. Look at the leadership in your community and hold them accountable. Put the tribal politics aside and vote for people who will keep our communities safe.

Crime has actually dropped substantially across the country the past three years so I know which tribe I’ll be voting for. My tribe has substantial and effective economic policies that have contributed to record low levels of unemployment. When people can find jobs, they don’t need to steal to survive. My tribe also doesn’t value guns over the lives of children. More guns everywhere don’t make us safer.

@@richardvinsen2385 Serious crimes, such as murder, have dropped somewhat (not substantially), but smaller crimes such as this one have skyrocketed. Shoplifting has exploded. Been to a Walgreens lately? At my local Target they lock up the socks. Socks for heaven's sake. Stores don't even stop shoplifters any longer because the police will do nothing. And do we even need to talk about illegal immigration? That's indefensible in its current state. 11 million in the last 3 years. Rewatch this video and make a judgement for yourself. And how about homelessness? Why is homelessness continuing to increase despite low unemployment? Maybe it has something to do with the 7-9% inflation rate? Did you get a 7% raise this year? How about a 9% raise last year? If not, then you lost money. Your tribe has failed. Both have.

So sorry about the robbery, from experience I know it is so upsetting because your safe place was violated. As for the screws, you should use a counter-sink bit. It will recess the screw head and give a shorter screw a deeper bite. Love you guys, you so remind me of when me and my husband when we worked on our projects.

    • @rodneyandjake

Thank you! Yes, violating is really the only way to describe a situation like this! Thank you for your empathy and kind words.
And thank you! We JUST got some counter-sink drill bits actually! And they would be have great for this little project, you're so right there! :)
Thank you guys for following along!

PIT BULL...GURL A LARGE PIT BULL! Also if you have a RING system you can set it to Siren.

I have a suggestion for you that won't make any difference to your "door sandwich" now that it is done. If you ever make something similar, perhaps this will help.
When you screw the pieces together, in whichever side you are inserting the screws, pre-drill a hole for each screw that is very slightly larger than the screw shank. There is no need for the screws to "bite" into the side where you are inserting them. The only thing that is needed is for the head of the screw to draw the board against the other pieces. Having a hole just large enough to keep the threads from gripping the top piece will make the assembly much easier. Alternatively, instead of using screws, you could assemble the pieces with polyurethane adhesive. Grab your caulk gun and put some zig-zag beads of adhesive on the foam board, squish, clamp, and enjoy!
Nice job with the video. Thanks for producing it!

Lights and a camera are helpful but I think and alarm might serve you better guys , sorry for your loss and inconvenience,😔

That theft sucks guys. Whatever the reason, don't steal from people who work hard for what they have. If you are genuinely in need then knock my door.
Its surprising how the seemingly simple jobs can give you so much grief but good on you for getting the job done as usual! 😊

That sucks! I just hope karma works fast. As others have said, some sort of alarm or the Ring system might help. Other than that, I love the way you didn’t let it stop from being productive. You guys are great!

Thank you! Yes, the exterior lighting is set for motion detection and turns on all of our lights - however, this timing was quite perfect as it was at the crack of dawn. And yes, we often find that overworking for other's short-comings or poor decisions is just not worth distrusting our own peace - often just a waste of time. So we do our best to process the situation and get back up again! Thank you for following along!

@@rodneyandjake By the way, in the video, you mentioned your business. I hope I am not being too forward, but are you landscape or interior designers? You seem to have that knack of getting an idea for both inside and out, and like magic, it looks like second nature for you to just do it. You seem to always make it look easy.

I would have cut two long strips of plywood to the thickness of the three sheets so they would be flush with the top and bottom plywood of the door/hatch cutting down the three sheets to compensate for the added thickness of the two long strips on each side. Finish nail them into the top and bottom plywood sheets to make a sandwich. I think it would be just as strong as the way you did it with a bonus of the hardware being hidden. Just a thought. I love you guys videos they are so much fun to watch. Have a great day..
