Good tips. I haven't seen others mention about cleaning out the water but you are right..even in a small cup growing something for roots, or in an aquarium full of water, we can see that in a few days, the water should be refreshed. It would make sense that the reservoir for the aerogarden also experiences a similar thing over a certain period of time, even if there is a mechanism in place to keep the water from getting stagnant for as long as possible. I had also wondered how people were getting tomatoes indoors without insects to pollinate, and now I know some good info from you about it.
Thank you so much! Do check out my other Videos and let me know what you think! I have seen some folks reuse the water from the AeroGardens to water other indoor plants but I haven’t tried it.
I trim my roots once a month because as you said they take over they can get into the pump and they get tangled up in to the other roots....Never had a problem with shock or anything but it’s a much more controlled peaceful environment not a big tangled mess
Thanks for the tips! Just got my aerogarden and I actually had 2 heirloom tomato plants that I had to move because i had no idea i couldnt mix them with herbs! I also had NO IDEA how long those roots can get! Very helpful information.
Oh tell me about it! The roots are a whole other story! My Tomato plants took over the entire AeroGarden till there was no space left for water in the reservoir!
I did that too lol. I ended up putting it into a pot outside after it turned into the creature. It didn’t look too hot at first, February is a pretty terrible time to transplant even in Ca, but it perked up and looks pretty good. I may even use my 2nd aerogarden that I just got to start some, come summer. I’m going to try lettuce in my littler one for now.
@@brood5184 it got big, shaded all the herbs and drank all the water lol. I even had two empty spots to give it room. It didn’t HURT them so say, but I removed only about 4 weeks in, so I’m not sure how it would have progressed. Taken over, I have no doubt..
I just bought one of these aero gardens and I can't wait for it to arrive, but I probably won't set it up until mid April. In the meantime I am enjoying seeing videos relating to tips and advice. I like how you provide low cost solutions..Thank you.
Thank you Mari! I’m sure you will enjoy the AeroGarden soon! Since the AeroGardens themselves are expensive, I try to cut costs for everything else 😊 This hobby is addictive for sure!
I bought a syphen on Amazon for almost $9. Thanks for that tip as I wondered ho I would drain the tank. They should have put a drain plug on the bottom. I thought one would have to change the water as I know it can grow mold. All your advice is great and your vegetables are beautiful. Will look at your other videos. Again Thank you.
Excellent tips! Thank you so much. I’m about to start my aerogarden, but wanted to soak up as much information as possible so I don’t kill my plants 😔 I’m horrible with plants..I’m hoping this system will help me get better and produce fruits and vegetables for my guinea pigs and family. ♥️
All the very best for your AeroGarden! Just follow the instructions for specific plants that you are growing and it will be fine. There are definitely many benefits to growing your own vegetables and fruits at home. Hope you get to enjoy them soon!
Thank you. My green thumb didn’t know to pollinate the tomatoes! Also, have you ever replanted your tomatoes into a pot? If so, can you show how to do this?🙂
Perfect! Loved your video! I am definitely buying an AeroGarden. I didn't want to just grow herbs or flowers. I want lettuce, tomato and peppers. So, thanks for the tips. : )
Which plants are best able to go together in my 6 plant aero garden? Both herb and flowering plants. I know you said they need different amounts of nutrients. Thanks for your tips. My basil also took over and choked the others causing them to wither.
Diane Sullivan I think it is all trial and error! My Thai basil was a beast and took over everything. But some other friends mentioned that their mint did the same thing... so I am not sure what will work. In 6 pod gardens, I will advise that you plant only 2 plants if doing peppers or tomatoes.
I saw your video after having planted 2 cherry tomato plants, with Basil and Parsley already growing!! What should I do now? Discard the basil and parsley which I've harvested once? Also, when I cleaned the AG the second time , I found the filter missing! Do you know where to get a replacement?
I have a question about plant food for experienced Aerogarden growers. I am going to plant 2 tomato plants in a 6 pod model. Should I use 1 capful (for 2 plants) or 2 capsful (for 6 pod machine)? I tried contacting Aerogarden, but their customer service is nonexistent. Thank you for your help.
I grow 5 tomato plants in my 6 pod AG Harvest but I use the recommended amount of plant food - 2 caps full. I haven’t seen any problems with that and the plants are thriving and still producing tomatoes for me. Maybe you can start with 1.5 caps and see if your plants are getting some nutrient burn (browning on leaves) - if they don’t show any problems, you could continue that or bump it up to 2 caps. Let me know how it goes- good luck!
I’ve never grown herbs with anything else so I’m not sure about that. One thing to consider is how aggressively the herb grows - in my sprout, the Basil has taken over everything else and has choked the life out of the mint ☹️ Basil roots are so aggressive that I have to keep trimming them.
I’m no expert, but I would say no, unfortunately. ~ i tried mixing herbs and tomato, no good. Now you possibly could do arugula, that’s more of a tender leaf/herby? But I’m curious, did you try? I would think kale might be too big.
In my garden I currently have Basil, Romane Lettuce and Mint along with chamile and lavender seedlings and everything but the Mint seems to be doing well. I have a lot of dead brown leaves on the mint that I'm needing to deal with. I would move it into a pot but every time I've done that I've had the plant die on me. Mint also has aggressive roots, and they'll take over. I'm afraid to do too much with it, as I don't want to damage the roots too much and kill the plant.
I used the black spacers sold by AeroGarden to close the empty spots. I tried to use cardboard earlier but it didn’t block the light out completely and some algae started to form in the water near it.
You can keep maintaining the tomato plants as long as possible - my tomatoes are still going strong 💪🏼 For herbs, you will have to keep them trimmed and prevent them from going to seed. I am not sure about lettuce/ greens since I haven’t grown them.
Yes you are correct. I made a mistake of planting all the pods in the Harvest. But they survived for a long time. I got rid of the tomato plants last month because the tomatoes were really tiny and plants were not doing well.
Thank you very much for all the info. It really help me .😊

Thank you so much! Four weeks into our first AeroGarden, these tips are so helpful.
That is awesome! Happy AeroGardening!! Which garden do you have and what have you planted?
Watched a few Aerogarden videos and YOURS is the best. Great tips not found elsewhere for a new AeroGardenist like myself. 👍
Thank you so so much for your kind words! Happy AeroGardening!
Super useful! Thank you.

I’m a first timer and these tips are so helpful. My set came with herbs (basil) and tomato. Is it a problem to have the tomatoes and herbs together?
@@gailjackson5657 yes! You don't want to mix fruiting plants (tomatoes/peppers/etc) with herbs because they end up competing

Thank you so much! I’ve wondered about having a drain in the AeroGardens too- maybe they didn’t include it because it would have a risk of leakage...

Thank u for the video ! The flowers on my tomato plants died even tho I put my electric toothbrush to them , I also tapped them by hand

Do you have videos of cooking/ baking with aerogarden herbs?

I finally got a message from customer support. They say to use 1 capful (the amount for 2 tomato plants).

Do you only tap when the flowers appear
Yes.
You should always use a small fan, as soon as you start your seedlings, which pollinates your flowers when their time comes.
Can herbs be planted with greens like kale or arugula?

What did you use to fill the empty hole/slot in AeroGarden with the two cascading petunias?
I used the black spacers sold by AeroGarden to close the empty spots. I tried to use cardboard earlier but it didn’t block the light out completely and some algae started to form in the water near it.
Do you have to keep buying the pods. Or can you simply maintain the plants?
You can keep maintaining the tomato plants as long as possible - my tomatoes are still going strong 💪🏼 For herbs, you will have to keep them trimmed and prevent them from going to seed. I am not sure about lettuce/ greens since I haven’t grown them.
I think you are suppose to plant only one tomato plant on each side. So total of 2 plants for a 6 hole unit.
Yes you are correct. I made a mistake of planting all the pods in the Harvest. But they survived for a long time. I got rid of the tomato plants last month because the tomatoes were really tiny and plants were not doing well.
Can I pollinate the plants by releasing a hive filled with angry bees into my house? 🤔
Yes!

It would just need a silicone gasket around it and it would be fine
