    I honestly think the sexuality is the most likely. I am biased as a gay man, but I do remember chat rooms in 2002. They could be easy hunting grounds for the following reasons:
    1. Being gay was still not accepted (not like today)
    2. A young college guy exploring his sexuality (while also having his career aspirations in politics) would not want his friends knowing. Thus ducking out of the party without much fanfare. And maybe the need for liquid courage to do it or he was just keeping up appearances.
    3. Going back to his room he could have been setting up the meeting with this guy on the internet. People were still trusting who people were back then. Catfishing wasn't a "thing".
    4. The trust that people would not hurt you, so getting into a strangers car or even someone he knew.
    In my opinion, he met the wrong guy who was a serial killer and using the M4M chats as a hunting ground. It could even be someone he knew that they had a long standing friends with benefits or even a secret relationship. One of them wanted to come out , and the other one couldn't take that chance and they argued and something bad happened.

      All of your points make a lot of sense. I also think he may have had a secret relationship. The removing of the yahoo personals chat program makes me wonder if something happened with an online relationship? There's just so many things we don't know and lots to consider! Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.

      I totally agree. The time makes sense. And yahoo chat rooms were dangerous as hell. I made a few stupjd decisions in those days. He leaves the party after drinking, goes home, gets online, a guy says he wants to hookup. They meetup. Tale as old as time. But then something happens. Either a killer catfish or, like you said, something happened between the two.

      No, no and no again. I wish people would stop with the gay / exploring sexuality theory. Josh's friends never even remotely suspected he was bi/gay and he was just out of a relationship with Katie, plus he was said to have argued with Nick - if he was into men, he wouldn't be arguing about his friend dating his ex, he wouldn't care too much since he wouldn't be into women. The bi/gay theory is a total red herring designed to confuse people. Another youtuber says the 28 men are probably just random dudes there's no evidence Josh ever talked to them directly. Also, someone on simplyvanished says the steans county sheriffs know exactly who all of the 28 are now, so that's that theory done.
      The only remaining theories that makes sense are A) monk led Josh down to the water and did something terrible (Bruce Wollmering was the monk suspected and he was found dead under extremely suspicious circumstances) or B) poker party "friends" covered it up. I believe it's A or B.
      There's also a possibility of the 4 guys who were mentioned in this video who picked up a student and asked for totally inappropriate things, but I think A or B above is more likely.

    • @MegCazalet
      @MegCazalet 11 місяців тому +4

      @@googlesearches240 I disagree with your argument that he wouldn’t be arguing with Nick about Katie. Josh and Katie had been dating for *five* years, so having his close friend and roommate want to date her would still feel complicated. Even if he was gay. But moreso if he was bi. You keep referencing to “gay/bi” but then drop the bisexuality aspect when it comes to your actual points. Bi erasure is a real problem. Please be more aware.

    • @googlesearches240
      @googlesearches240 11 місяців тому

      @@MegCazalet Don't tell me to be more aware. And don't insist Josh was gay/bi when there is no evidence whatsoever of that. I have male friends on facebook - does that make me gay? no. Does it make me bi? No. Stop seeing the world through warped LGBT glasses and realise that not everyone is gay if they talk to members of the same gender.

    I recall this story when it happened. One year later, 4
    college male students all disappeared within a short period of each other. There was a billboard in St Cloud along Interstate 94, displaying the photos of the 4 missing students. There were rumors someone at St John’s University had murdered Josh because he had been researching the Catholic priest abuse of young boys. In addition, Josh had been investigating St John’s University illegal activity in the Bahamas and Caribbean Islands. I had a former police officer friend who was a private investigator. He discovered that Josh had been murdered and buried with a Catholic Priest on campus. Josh’s dad was never allowed to search the Abbey where the Catholic Priests lived. There had been rumors that Josh had been seen in the Abbey. Thanks, for creating this video! There is more to this story! Especially, the rumors about the kidnapping of young girls and guys along Interstate 94, for human trafficking.

    Found you channel randomly a while ago and I'm really enjoying it! I watch several different true crime channels, some better than others and yours is hands down my absolute favorite! I love that you take us on these walks, sometimes in the exact locations of the disappearances. Whenever other channels show Google map images or police photos of the area I try to picture how far the victims walked or what it looked like, this finally gives me the answers I wanted. I also appreciate you doing the narration yourself!
    I've followed this case for a long time, watched many different documentaries on it and so far you've given the most information yet! Honestly, Josh's case is so confusing and there's any number of things that could've happened to him. While I always hope for the missing to be found alive, I think Josh is likely dead :( I don't think he wandered into water or was killed at the party. I think he was either (A) randomly picked up, possibly by the same men who abducted Anthony or whoever killed the other two men, (B) one of the monks or priests didn't like him looking into the scandal and killed him or (C) he met up with someone from the Yahoo chat room and things went bad. I did see a couple other comments that presented very good points about the chat room and the staff possibly killing him and covering it up. Keep up the great work!!

    Good job on this, this is by far the best report I have watched on this case. There is a whole lot of reckless conspiracy theories in the others. I think it is possible he met someone and perhaps this lead to an accidental overdose of something like that. The area around St. Johns is very vast with forests and open prairie. Perhaps he wander out there while inebriated and got lost. There were extensive searches but there are so many cases where these searches fail to locate the victim only to have someone discover the remains later within the search area. Minnesotan Brandon Swanson is an example, as he was the subject of a vast search that never found him even though they were fairly certain of where he got lost. Please do an episode on Swanson if you get a chance, it is an extremely perplexing case.

      @TrueCrimeTreadmill Yhis case of Steven makes me so sad. There is also some video footage of him when he picked e received an award, and you could add that too so people see what he was like. I have never seen anyone use any video of him, and It brings the story to life. Katrice Lee is another sad case, and there is so little on her just mentioned in a tv news documentary on missing people with Dan Walker on ch5 and thats it. Im not rven sure it's fair to say it was investigated .ore like it began and went nowhere. There is that little to go on, but her family are suffering immensely and are broken at knowing nothing and feeling that sheer ignorance towards their mising toddler. They'd be very grateful if the case was put out there. Seeing them on tv a couple of times this year and they're broken 💔 😢 It's just a shame when cases of Missing Children such as Katrice just get forgotten about. Someone is likely getting away with a kidknap, murder etc. After all, a body would've been found in over 30+ years.
      Anything anyone can do to raise awareness for these 2 missing people is a bonus 🙏 😊

    There is so much information around this case. I feel Josh was trying to distance himself from his former girlfriend and friend because Josh wanted to be a lawyer and didnt want to be connected to small time campus drug dealing. He may have been helping them store information but told them to stop usung his computer, thus an argument. His friends deleted this info off his computer after he went missing to stay out of trouble and it doesnt have anything to do with his disappearance. I think Josh had several ids because he was either researching the other disappearances or the problems on campus. I dont think he was gay. He got into trouble researching and may have unearthed some good clues and perhaps had some threats directed at him. Despite the fake ids he would have had a real IP address to direct unsavory people to his location. He was down at the stone bridge to think about the other disappearances or may have thought he was meeting a witness there and he was taken by the real perpetrators. The dog was mostly picking up scent where Josh had already been. I dont think Joshs body is anywhere near campus.😢

      Yes, there is just so many details with this one. It is a lot to sort through. But you have a good point about his IP address. It would have led people to his real location right there on campus. Scary!

  • @jplattet
    @jplattet 9 місяців тому +1

    Sifting through it all, this is what I come up with as a simple scenario.
    I discount that an argument might have happened between Josh and Nick as the one roommate who could have heard it supposedly has never come forward to say.
    I discount Nick refusing to take a polygraph as my bet is he had an attorney advise him against it.
    Neither do I think Josh was grabbed off the street or fell in the water. That makes no sense.
    I don’t think that a paper he might or might not have planned to write on sexual abuse at St John’s had anything to do with it, either. Nothing was ever found indicating that he had even started that project and therefore no one would have known anything about that.
    Here’s what I think:
    I think Josh was gay and knew it for a long time. I think he broke up with Katie because she wanted sex and he didn’t want to give it to her. Somewhere along the way there was a person who said after the breakup Josh seemed like a weight was lifted from his shoulders. There’s not another simple explanation for him to feel that way.
    Therefore, I don’t think Josh cared one way or the other if Nick and Katie dated for a little while.
    Josh was on Yahoo messenger. He was looking for guys. Period. He knew what he was doing. His female profiles IMO were nothing more than a ruse to get dick pics or watch other guys jerk off on camera.
    I think he ran into a Priest or Monk from the University on Yahoo. That would explain the 28-minute phone call which would have been for the purpose of blackmailing Josh and then Josh freaking out and deleting Messenger and all of his profiles. He was horrified and scared to have been found out.
    At that point, Josh probably thought he was in over his head.
    Therefore, it makes sense to me that Josh was blackmailed into having sex with a Priest or Monk and that is where he went in the middle of the poker party. It would also explain why his scent went to the Abbey which had the Monastery adjoining it to the rear. And why he left certain articles behind in his dorm room such as his glasses and credit cards. He wasn’t going far from home and didn’t need them.
    I think Josh was drugged by the Priest or Monk, and that Josh had an OD and died then and there.
    Now it would have been the Priest or Monk’s turn to freak out.
    As it was, St John’s could not have withstood another scandal at that time, and Josh’s body was after a little while taken away to be buried either in the cemetery at St John’s or on a piece of property elsewhere where no one would ever look, like the property on Swenson Lake near Bemidji, Minnesota owned by the St John's and which is something like 140 or 150 miles away.
    It also explains why the St John’s authorities wouldn’t let the Bloodhound into the Abbey until a while later. Once Josh’s body was gone.
    So, that’s it. It’s a simple theory and it hangs together. Josh was found out as being gay, he was blackmailed, died accidentally, and was buried. None of the students knew, and others who did know never said a word. As time goes by more and more of those who know will die and dead men tell no tales.

    • @TrueCrimeTreadmill
      @TrueCrimeTreadmill  9 місяців тому +1

      Wow. Thank you for joining me and taking the time to comment. This theory makes a lot of sense. I agree with what you said about Nick not taking the polygraph, as well as Josh's attitude towards Nick and Katie dating. I imagine that being blackmailed would make Josh do unexpected things, like walking away from a poker party as soon as he arrived.
      I did not know that St John's had additional property so far away. Would love to know if anyone has looked into that further.

    • @jplattet
