    Procol harum, a band that had their own sound. They could do it all with consistently. So many classic albums from beginning to end, the mark of a great band.

    How many of you geezers remember The Paramounts? They had a hit single with Poison Ivy. It was Brooker, Trower, Copping and Wilsons first band back in 1964.

    • @jeffryphillipsburns
      @jeffryphillipsburns 3 роки тому +2

      The only rock people I had heard of in 1964 were Elvis Presley and the Beatles. I subsequently read that the Paramounts were the forerunners of Procol Harum, but I had the idea that the Paramounts’s modest success was limited to England. Was that not the case?

    Searched long and hard for this song, but couldn't remember the name, only the melody of the lead guitarist. How do you ask a person who plays this song by trying to imitate the guitar solo at the beginning? I got a very puzzled look from my husband, but hey, they were a group before his time. He's 5 years younger than me and I'm 70. Ha!......So, I asked Jesus if He could help me find it, and within 5 minutes, there it was. (Matthew 7:7). Ask, seek, and you will find. Amen!
    Anyway....loved that lead guitar intro!...
    Best music 🎶 and time period ever! ♡

    Excellent...! And addressing the comments made by some, guitarist Geoff Whitehorn is alive, well, and still playing, having also served as the longest running guitarist with Procol Harum. Been a fan since '67; Procol Harum, Shine on Brightly, Salty Dog, etc.,

      I saw Procol Harum in 1974 at the Fox Theater. Golden Earring, who at the time had a hit called “Radar Love” opened the show, and it was clear that most of the audience had come to see this opening group, which I found annoying. To express my displeasure (only for my own benefit, alas), I even retreated to the lobby for a short while during Golden Earring’s set. Golden Earring’s drummer played a flamboyant solo which he concluded by jumping over his drumset- or at least that’s the way I remember it, but because that now seems to me virtually impossible, I’m suspicious of that memory. In any case, B. J. Wilson’s drum solo was much more musical and nuanced, and involved transitioning between meters. B. J. Wilson was always one of my very favorite rock drummers. I love how he interpolates shuffle sixteenths into the interstices of “A Salty Dog”.

      +Sergio Kodemo No Trower, alas. Geoff Whitehorn has served Harum as guitarist since '91. They/re all rather long in the tooth now: Trower's 71, Brooker's 70, and Whitehorn's the youngster at 64. Amazing how time flies.

      Yes, Mr.Whitehorn does an excellent job in his own style and not just trying to imitate Robin. Yep, time flies; I was a teen when I first listened to the band. Now I'm 63 and we both had to witness so many great musicians who have passed away.

    Cool to see, and Procol's one of my favorite bands. I've never cared for this song though. So dreary and lethargic. Repeats the same damn chord progression too much.
