  • This is the beginning to reworking the driveway at our future homestead. We have Graveled the area in front of the old Pole Barn and are installing culverts in the driveway. After the Culverts are complete we are going to be covering the driveway with Typar and Gravel.

    Great job. I love your Ohio Steel dump wagon (I got mine after I wore out a metal one). Very tough dump wagons. Easy to clean. Tip for mixing the concrete: set the bag in long edge pointing into the machine, then cut the bag longwise. I find it’s a faster way of emptying the bag into the mixer, especially if you’re putting more than 1 bag in the machine. Good luck with all the rest of your land work.

    This video was exactly what I was looking for! Head walls coming to my driveway ASAP!

    It may be worth digging below the wall and putting a base threshold-slab in to the front of the pipe to prevent scour and subsequent toppling of the wall.

    I am doing the same thing except min will be 5 ft above the bottom of the 24 inch culvert pipe. I plan to do some kind of tieback about 2 ft above it to keep it from tipping over from traffic continuously packing it down. Or wing walls coming out 5 ft on each side.

    Hi there! What kind of box culvert or pipe do I need to use for a culvert that can passage 40, maybe 50 ton trucks?

    looks good, one of those palm sanders against your forms works well for vibrating out air pockets too.

      Or use a sawzall without a blade against the form and rebar before it gets covered up.

    Thanks for the video. One question. Won't those start getting tipped outward over time without anchors?

      Since the pipe is corrugated, the concrete is sort of locked to the pipe. It would have to bend the pipe to lean or something would have to break. So far so good.

      MrRoboto57 : Good point, tapered cement sides would have been smart, eliminating the need for Rip-Rap or similar.

    What keeps them from being pushed out from the driveway should a heavy load pass close to the wall?

    • @thesage1096
      @thesage1096 3 роки тому

      hi. 3 things: the sheer weight of the structure (headwall), helps it to resist sliding
      2. the 'passive earth pressure', ie the backfill of the side of the headwall that opposite of the driveway, helps to resist outward motion.
      3. if you notice the casting, the corrugations of the HDPE pipe is locked in place withing the RC of the headwall.
      if you have a load applying a large enough of an earth pressure enough to overcome all 3 of those, then u might have bigger issues, ie you might have crushing of the culvert pipe.

    Country view acres,
    I am looking to do this as soon as I finish paying off my land in 3 more months. I was curious on what the estimated cost of this project? Thank you for the video.

    • @CountryViewAcres
      @CountryViewAcres  5 років тому +2

      For the culverts, I can't remember it has been a while. Price of culvert plus about 5 to 6 bags of concrete per side.

    Would prefabbing those end caps and setting them in place have worked? Enjoy your vids, hoping to make it into the country some day.

      By pouring around the pipe, the concrete forms to the ribs of the corigated pipe. The pipe actually holds the wall in place. it is more secure, than if you made it separately.

    Why only a half form on the backside ?

    • @CountryViewAcres
      @CountryViewAcres  6 років тому +3

      The Shadow, cause dirt was the form for the lower half. It was not needed. Also if it was around the pipe it wouldn't have been able to be removed afterwards.

    thanks for this video. i dnt knw much about culverts but i have to put one in the yard. can u tell me more about the cement sides. how wide are the plywood lenghts?

    • @CountryViewAcres
      @CountryViewAcres  7 років тому

      Freddy Pau, the ply wood was 4 feet wide and about 2.5 feet tall. cement is not required, but I wanted to protect the ends of the culvert. also it acts as a retaining wall for the driveway.
