  • In today's Prague streets 4k walk, we will move from Vinohrady to the Žižkov district. We will start our journey on Jiřího z Poděbrad Square, pass by the Žižkov TV Tower, and go down the steep streets to the St. Procopius Church.
01:40 Jiřího z Poděbrad Square (George of Poděbrady Square, Náměstí Jiřího z Poděbrad) is located in Vinohrady district in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. It is dominated by the Art Nouveau Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Our Lord from 1932, which stands in its middle. The majority of the square is actually an urban park. There is also a stone fountain included. Metro and tram stops of the same are located on the court. Jiřího z Poděbrad Square was established in 1896 and was previously called King George Square (Náměstí krále Jiřího), by the name of George of Poděbrady, who was a king of Bohemia from 1458 to 1471. The name of the square was changed to the current one in 1948.

05:00 Žižkov district is a lively neighborhood that attracts crowds of students to its numerous pubs. Well-dressed diners sip cocktails against a panoramic backdrop in the bar of the futuristic, communist-era Žižkov TV Tower. Vítkov hill, topped by the monumental National Memorial, also offers sweeping views. Franz Kafka, the author of The Trial and The Metamorphosis, is buried in the New Jewish Cemetery.

08:50 The Žižkov TV Tower (Žižkovský vysílač) is a unique transmitter tower built in Prague between 1985 and 1992. Designed by the architect Václav Aulický and the structural engineer Jiří Kozák, it stands high above the city's traditional skyline from its position on top of a hill in the district of Žižkov, from which it takes its name. The tower is an example of high-tech architecture.
In 2000, ten fiberglass sculptures by Czech artist David Černý called "Miminka" (Babies), crawling up and down, were temporarily attached to the tower's pillars. The sculptures were admired by many and were returned in 2001 as a permanent installation. Another three Babies, made from bronze, can be found in Prague's Kampa Park. These Babies were removed from the tower for cleaning and structural checks in the fall of 2017. After examining the condition of the sculptures, it was decided to replace them with identical duplicates. In March 2019, the copies of the "Babies" were installed in their original positions. The original Babies were returned to David Černý.

15:30 St. Procopius Church (Kostel svatého Prokopa) is the parish church of the district of Žižkov in Prague, Czech Republic. Dedicated to the patron saint of Bohemia, Procopius of Sázava, the three-aisled Neo-Gothic church, located at Sladkovského Square on Seifertova Street, was designed by Bohemian architects Josef Mocker (who completed St. Vitus Cathedral) and František Mikš. Its steeple dominates the skyline of Žižkov (along with the more-recently constructed Žižkov Television Tower).
Žižkov became an independent city in 1881 but did not have a sufficiently sizeable Catholic church for its population. An association for the establishment of a Catholic church was formed in 1879. In 1883, it bought a building with a large dance hall, which was converted into a simply-decorated chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary. This chapel accommodated thousands of the faithful for more than 20 years, even after the dedication of St. Procopius Church, closing only in 1919. The foundation stone for St. Procopius Church was ceremonially laid by the Archbishop of Prague, Cardinal František Schönborn, on October 30, 1898, on the 50th anniversary of the reign of Franz Joseph I of Austria. Therefore, in the first years of its existence, the church was known as the "Jubilee" Church. Construction lasted five years. The church was consecrated on September 27, 1903, by Cardinal Lev Skrbenský z Hříště in the presence of the governor of the Kingdom of Bohemia, Archduke Karl Ferdinand, Count of Coudenhove, with his wife. The first parish priest was Mons. Eduard Šittler.

    Here's a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
    Don't worry, be happy
In every life we have some trouble
But when you worry you make it double
    Don't worry, be happy
    Don't worry, be happy now
    don't worry
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) be happy
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) don't worry, be happy
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) don't worry
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) be happy
(Ooh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh) don't worry, be happy
Ain't got no place to lay your head
Somebody came and took your bed
    Don't worry, be happy
The landlord say your rent is late
    He may have to litigate
    Don't worry, be happy
Oh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh don't worry, be happy
Here I give you my phone number, when you worry, call me, I make you happy, don't worry, be happy)
    Don't worry, be happy
Ain't got no cash, ain't got no style
Ain't got no gal to make you smile
    Don't worry, be happy
'Cause when you worry your face will frown
And that will bring everybody down
    So don't worry, be happy

Ten vysílač se (podle mého názoru) moc nepovedl. Ještěže ho ty děti "oživují". Díky za pohledy na pěkné domy.
