The PS3/360 versions are nothing more than a weak attempt at a cash grab with Treyarch/Activision knowing there are a ton of people who don't want to upgrade to the new systems, so they purposefully make the old system's version of the game a piece of shit with almost half of the game ripped out so customers think they need to upgrade to get the "full" experience, spending even more money. The ports were outsourced and it shows. The game could have looked a lot better, I'm sure. No, the new systems didn't magically get much more powerful, the old one's are simply being gimped. Look at last year's games. The big differences between new and old were only AA being present and a higher frame rate/resolution, not missing parts of the game completely. The game shouldn't have even came out on last gen, but $$$$$$$$$

A lot of them are moving to current gen now because I found that in the UK, BO3 (retail copies) on current gen made 91%, last gen made 8% and PC physical made 1% so it's clear that a lot of them are not stupid enough to buy it on last gen.

The problem is: First the game was designed to release on Next-gen Console, so every stuff were created on a hi-poly quality. For earning big money from old-gen console, ACTIVISION has pushed their dev to make a real-quick version based everything on PS4 ver, then the result is everything was awfully remake to reach low-poly on PS3. At least it's stable. PS3 is not weak, just the game was not designed to work on PS3 every first time

The differences in the maps are not because of graphical ability....its because treyarch had little to no communication with Beenox and didn't share all of the designs or assets with them. For being made by a dev with no experience in making a CoD game, it came out pretty good. The final thing i will say is that the ps3 version seems to look slightly better than the xbox 360 in some areas.
I don't know why new games look so bad in last gen hardware.. Battlefield 3, Crysis 3 and GTA5 still look far better in last gen hardware .. I feel like they downgrade visuals in purpose..

Reminds me a lot of ports from 360/Ps3 to the Wii. If a game and its engine are made for next gen hardware you can't expect pretty results for the last gen ports. Even though they had some beautiful games as well, that's because they were made for them.
