Something is definitely missing...at 2:23 you talk about if the brakes are stopping and you like the height then there is nothing wrong (or words to that effect). But I don't like all the travel of the pedal as I pump it up, nor do I like it when it applies braking pressure - it still travels too far before I feel the brakes working. In other words, what if you DON'T like the pedal travel after all the pumping (at 2:23)?
My brake feel soft in beginning then just gets rock hard , i just bled my own brake after a failed hose and i was thinking maybe it should always be hard? But ive driven never cars and they all feel the same so i guess my brakes are fine. My brake stays hard and car brakes hard which is a good thing , thanks for the vid.
Hi Kev, With the engine off and vacuum in the booster diminished, you'll have increased resistance through the booster, affecting the accuracy of the feedback from the hydraulic brake system. If your pedal is sinking with vacuum applied [engine running], you could have a bad master cylinder and leaking wheel cylinder or caliper. Inspect for leaks in the system. If no leaks are detected, try blocking off the lines out of the master with plugs and see if the pedal still sinks. If so, the master is most likely bad.
If I'm reading this all correctly... You shouldn't feel a difference in the pressure after 3 pumps, all three should feel the same. If the pedal gets harder, there's air in the system. Also, with the pedal in the same position on the 3rd pump, when you turn on your car, it should go down a little further, this is evidence that the booster is in good working order.
I think my clutch gets spongy from the brakes because when I drive a while without using brakes, like on the highway, or when I pump the brakes hard, the clutch becomes smooth. I have a spongy clutch half the time though.
All this technical stuff doesn't mean a hoot, if it can't explain why a brake pedal responds to pumping, but still won't stop without additional pressure on the brake, or downshifting.
I have wilwood front calipers, wilwood master cylinder, all new lines, new MS and Booster, but pedal is spongy after 3 pumps, but hard after about 8 fast pumps. Bled the brakes, and i get constant air bubbles, not small bubbles, big bubbles. Ran about a gallon of fluid through the lines while bleeding, and still getting air. No brake fluid leaking anywhere, but somehow air is getting into the system. Any ideas?
Hi thanks for the video. I have a 2005 g35x .. brakes feel spongy and pedal goes to floor only when the engine is running. When the engine is off, pedal is pretty firm. I have bled all four brakes couple times.. on the last round no air came out from any of the brakes so pretty sure system is air free now. Any advice on what's going on with my brakes? Thanks!
i had the same problem. turned out to be a front wheel bearing going bad without getting supernoisy, but with lots and lots of play, like 5mm or more. so the disc were pushing the pistons further in than normal, and i had to pump them out befor the brakes felt propper

Exactly what I was looking for thankyou!
Thank you for watching!
Soooo, my truck ia not having problems... I removed all the air and it still feels kinda spongy, i guess i never gor used to it in good condition

What if the brake softens up and goes to the floor when the car is on. But will hold preasure when the car is off

Fantastic
good practical, simple info, thanks

Dem nikes big.

Would be helpful if the car was running or not during this test?
I’m 5 years late but no it’s the same

Probably not a good enough seal when you are bleeding air getting in from the nipple or pipe .
I felt that my wife's car pedal was a little "spongy", when I told her, she answered "I had them fix a few months ago, give me a break"
:o(
lost you at the second part second pump. mine pumps up stays up let off srart car pedal goes way down

well for one when the engine is running u have power brakes lol so you can push it to the floor
Sooo its still safe to drive?
It might just be your pads that aren't producing enough braking Force making you feel that way
1:22 pump screeching...
This video is fairly insulting, please take it down
Why is insulting?
