In this Rhino Grasshopper Tutorial, we are going to model a parametric facade similar to 80Hz Pavilion. First, we are going to make a grid of points in the XZ plane and move it away from a point attractor. then we will use a second point attractor to rotate the XY planes on the points and make the base for the petals. Finally, we will use dispatch to select the planes in a zig-zag pattern and model the panels.

Its amazing, I have been looking for rotation of planes for a really long time, got it today. Thanks man

Does anyone know how I would apply this facade to a curved structure such as a circular pavilion?

Do you think if i connect the same point attractor in both the motion logics (grid shape deformation and rotation of individual planes), will it work ?
The idea is, can I have same point which can govern both the motions.
Awesome tut by the way! Thanks!

Thanks for video. There is something I wonder. After all these kinetic designs, which program is motion provided? Which software, technique is required? Is like arduino being used?

Can I ask how you get rhino to update grasshopper geometries smoothly as you drag the point attractor? Mine only updates after finishing dragging the point

Thank you for your amazing contents again. I am a noob of Grasshopper but I am following your videos step by step. It is a really nice process to gradually understand the logic of Grasshopper. After I go through this tutorial, I wanted to go a little bit further to make each surface as poly-surface, so I struggled a bit, but finally kinda find a semi-solution using a combination of Extrude and Offset surface (Used Offset Surface linked to Direction input of Extrude as all surfaces directions are different). But the thickness is always 1mm and if I put a value ex. 2 mm at the distance only additional surface added over the extruded surfaces and they aren't closed.
How can I have control of the thickness? :)

Why use domain for the rectangle at the last step? I just connect the size sliders to it and the result is the same

Hi, the difference is when you just use the number slider, the base planes would be located at the corner of each rectangle! but when you define a domain that goes from - L/2 to +L/2 the base planes would be located exactly at the center of your rectangles.

    why is it named 80hz?

british designer and architect thomas wing-evans has created ’80Hz’, an interactive sound pavilion in collaboration with the dx lab for the state library of new south wales in australia, which takes paintings from the library’s collection and turns them into music. located outside the mitchell reading room in sydney’s CBD, the installation features a curving black timber frame clad in matt anodized aluminum shingles.
