Just to add to the Adam love, not only is he the heartbeat of Home Free, but he was the guy who got all their early gigs, handled their finances and budget, and eventually connected them with cruise ships and concert series management. His brother Chris tends to get all the credit for starting the group, but it was Adam's tenacity and stubbornness (and willingness to sleep on the floor instead of get an extra hotel room) that got them to where they are today.
Exactly! Chris left and came back several times but Adam was the constant. Even at the height of the pandemic, it was Adam's idea to film a Christmas special.
You forgot to add that he taught himself to sing (in a more Trained way ) and stack chords to work with the Loop station, he learned Korean for the guilty pleasures bit, there really isn't anything he can't learn and he is a quick study.
Have been to about a dozen live concerts and his solos are stellar every time!! They are all phenominal! Went bowling with them last 2 years and each time so much fun!!
Tim loves to announces that it's not a concert it's a party at the beginning of the concert. And Adam does drop the bass... It feeling like the floor drops out from under your feet.
I've figured it out, he's obviously learned how to breathe through his eyeballs, there's no other explanation for him being able to do such long runs without taking a breath.
He is actually one of the top 10 best beatboxers in the world... He is freaking amazing. They call Adam the Freak of Nature he actually taught himself to play drums to better himself as a beatboxer.. this man is an alien..🏡🆓🏡🍟 love your reactions they are the best you're adorable..
I think people forget that the other guys are taking a break now, 'resting their voices', but Adam has been backing them up on every song and will continue, except for maybe 5 minutes after his solo, to perform until the end of the concert. He has been working on his skills for 20+ years, and he is still learning new sounds.
In Home Free's cover of Listen to the Music, Adam Rupp hits some super high notes. Higher than either Rob or Austin. Tim Foust has said that Adam has hit both the highest and lowest recorded notes in the group.
Adam is so much more than just a beatboxer extraordinaire. He’s a complete vocal percussionist and a one man band. No-Monica, wind, jet airplane, didgeridoo…..you name the sound and he can do it.
I heard that there was a concert where the other guys lost track of the time and he had to do sound requests for the audience for 10 minutes after his set was over. I think it's documented in one of their Home Away From Home videos.
@@kristindunstan172 Yes in the Home away from home videos about the European tour LOL that ended in the pandemic cutting the tour short having to fly home asap. I think it's 2 videos and it leads into all the Quarantine videos and then the first show back all excellent

He actually stated that this was not correct, he has not competed, as he doesn't have the time between family and Home Free commitments. He absolutely could be a world champion, though!
@@ajisegundo2268 He has stated, on record, several times that he has never competed, and that any rumour claiming he has is false. I've watched this video over 200 times, not to mention the other solo videos I've watched hundreds of times. I never get tired of watching Adam's performances whether it's solo, or with Home Free. He has been honing his skills for over 20 years and he doesn't rest on his laurels. He is always adding new elements to his repertoire. I got a chance to see Home Free for the first time last October and his solo was jaw dropping. Exciting, creative and electrifying. Someone asked him how long it took him to learn to beat box and he answered "I'm still learning." I love this man and his insane talent and skill. He also plays actual drums (he learned to better perform his solos), he plays bass guitar, keyboard, trumpet, as well as having a lovely tenor voice when he's required to harmonize with the other guys. Thanks for a wonderful reaction!
1. Adam has never, to my knowledge, competed in a beatboxing competition. He's simply the best. 2. Adam prefers not to sing, but when he does, his natural range is between Austin's and Rob's (according to Tim). 3. Again, according to Tim (whose range is G0-A5), Adam has the widest range in the group. 4. Circular breathing is a particular breathing technique: it includes inhaling via the nose while pushing air, that was stored in the cheeks, out through the lips, so allows for continuous playing of a wind instrument.
To #1, YES! He himself has stated in interviews that he has never competed and could therefore not be a world champion (obviously he could in talent). Between his family and Home Free he doesn't have the time, and he's so humble and unassuming, I don't think he has ever felt the need to gain titles, etc.
You can tell he knows something of drumming and drum kits, simply from the fact that he knows where to 'hit' and 'kick' as he's mimicking the sounds (even the foot taps for hitting the bass drum.) He is the guy who can legit claim to be an award-winning beatboxer, since he has... literally won awards for it. And yes, Home Free concerts are a BLAST - there are some well-known extracts on UA-cam of some of their best bits. 'Guilty Pleasures - Derailed!' is a must-watch, as is ANYTHING titled 'Story Time With Tim,' (Tim is renowned in the group and among Home Fries for having a sardonic, observational sense of humour.) He plays off Austin perfectly, who is the goofy, excitable little labrador of the group!
Perhaps curiously for an acapella band, they all can play instruments. Tim & Austin both play piano; Chance plays guitar; Rob can play saxophone and Adam Rupp plays drums, trumpets and apparently whatever else he chooses to try! Thanks for playing this & your reactions.

I heard a from a source a dubious rumor, that as kids, Chris dared Adam to swallow different instruments and things. Chris lost the dare, and Adam's vocal machine was born. ;)
"I'd love to see Adam do proper beatboxing". Be careful what you wish for. He is amazing. And this video was many years ago. He now uses a looper so he can sing over multiple layers of drums. I was at their Christmas concert in December and he knocked me out of my chair. That low bass rattles the floor just like Tim does. You should watch one of the fan videos from that 2022 Christmas tour. Believe it or not, he does Carol of the Bells. I almost don't believe it and I was there. He does do a lot of sounds on the inhale, which is why it seems like he never breathes. His degree is in trumpet performance, so he started with great breath control and went from there. Their cover of the Doobie Brothers classic Listen to the Music really showcases his talents, including the very top of his range. Great reaction. Hope you get to see them.
I have seen this video so many times. I didn’t have to pay as close of attention to the video and was concentrating on your reaction! Absolutely not disappointed.. it’s always so much fun watching your videos. Thanks for all your time you put into these.
Adam is actually trained in Trumpet performance which definitely helped in his breathing control...there is something called circular breathing which allows you to breath in and out at the same time, but you can definitely see his breath control is amazing. I truly believe that Adam has the widest vocal range of all of them with the deep low throat/lip rolls to the high pitches nomonica etc....
I agree. People don't give him enough credit for his vocal range. It also really shows in Listen to the Music where he does those high slides. I think it's because people don't think of the sounds he makes as being actual notes even though they are.
As a trumpet player myself, I can tell you that if he is using circular breathing, he's a total beast. That stuff is HARD. I can do it, but it doesn't sound right no matter what I do, and most of the people I know who can do it say the same.
@@InstrucTube I agree, I don't think he is using circular breathing per se, but his breath control and ability to do the fast tongue work needed for high hats and stuff can definitely be attributed to that training, I also do remember him explaining that certain sounds are on a breathe in and then other on breathe out....no matter what...its amazing the breathe control he has.
On the Home Away from Home series they do one episode is Adam at home and he talks a little about when he learned to beatbox. Also on his brother Chris Rupp's channel he has a whole series on the history of Home Free that tells all about them. Both are great for learning more .
I've been hoping that someone else in the group would continue that series to give us an update, on record, of how Chance joined the group and more recent history in addition to what Chris has done.
Love Adam Rupp & his insane talent. He is the best out there in my opinion. He simulates the sounds of a drum perfectly. Many drummers have commented on how good he is. He sounds so realistic. His breath control must be crazy. I heard he makes the sounds both while inhaling & exhaling. This was a few years ago & hard to believe but he is even better now. Adam is the glue that holds Home Free together. He is their secret weapon which other a cappella groups can't match.
Sir, this IS a world class beatboxer...has awards to prove it. One of the very best! And the world class humor of Home Free live and upfront... Love, love, love your reactions.
I know we are nowhere near Christmas, but you really, really need to react to "Do you hear what I hear?"" Adam arranged it & it is a world-class masterpiece! They do some really great beatboxing & sound effects in it.
When they first started Home Free (didn't even have a name yet) Chris was going to be the beatboxer. But they decided that Adam was a better fit. Now, with Adam, you have to understand that he doesn't do things half way. Any new hobby or project, he is all in from the start. Legend has it that when learning to beatbox in college, he drove his roommate nuts making sounds all the time, to the point of his roommate moving out!😂 The didgeridoo sound is the result of his facination with throat singing. Watch his throat as he does it. Like watching a bullfrog!😅
Adam learned to play the drums when he was young so he would know exactly how to make the sounds. He can really play different instruments. Do you want to see him sing and dance? Plus get a really good laugh. Watch guilty pleasure. It's live.
Adam is amazing in concert!!! Homefree is well worth the time and effort to get to see them. My husband and I drove 160 miles round trip in a rented car to see them and we would do it again ❤❤❤❤❤
Tim once said in a interview that Adam was the magic of Home Free and in his series about the history of Home Free his brother Chris said that when he was getting really discouraged and wondering if they should just give up it was Adam who refused to surrender and kept Chris and the others going. And yes making a sound as you inhale is part of beatboxing. I heard one reaction where one of the reactors wanted to know if he had 3 throats lol. When you said I want to hear him do actual beatboxing I thought "Just give it a second" I would love to know what his actual vocal range is because you hear him drop the bass in this and hear his make that beautiful eerie high not in Listen to the Music. Great reaction!!!!
There's a video floating around where someone compiled a bunch clips and figured out Adam's range from to low, but I can't attest to the accuracy or age of the video.
Every time you pause I'm thinking..Yeah, wait a bit. ;) There's another reactor; Drumming with Jarvis who has reacted to this. Hearing his take, as a professional drummer gave me a whole new level of appreciation for what Adam does.
Adam has a degree in Trumpet Performance. They learn circular breathing, triplets, all kinds of crazy sounds with the trumpet. That leads him to have amazing vocal percussion skills that most beat boxers don’t have in their tool ki5!
I have read, though not directly from Adam, that he uses breathing techniques he learned as a trumpeter and that he makes sounds while inhaling and exhaling.
You definitely need to see them live in concert! You'll never go to a better party than a Home Free concert! The guys are just so relaxed - they joke with the audience and each other, they tell stories about their experiences, and sound fantastic! Once in a while they mess up, forget a lyric, or something, or get a case of the giggles, and it's hilarious!! I haven't been to a concert where they really mess up, but I've seen a few videos, and they just laugh it off, take it in stride, and have a do-over. It's a great experience!
Please don't stop by just doing this performance then moving on. I've got a playlist of over 60 drum solos, all brilliant, all different in various ways. This is great but it's years old and not even the best from back then, it just happens to be the one that most people are familiar with. His recent performances are in a different league. Definitely worth a reaction!
Yes Adam is The Exceptional Freak of Nature Adam trained and can play trumpet where he learned the circular breathing technique from. He can play other “real instruments” like guitar, he learned enough of the drums so he could mimic the movements. Another tidbit of info is that this about halfway through the concert, and he’s been beatboxing for the last 35 to 40 minutes prior to this and will continue more afterwards. So one of his other nicknames is The Machine. Adam obviously loves what he is doing, You can tell by his passion and enthusiasm. I have not seen them in concert, but look forward to it eventually.
Also, here's a beat-off (their words, not mine) with the beatboxers from Voiceplay, The Filharmonic, and Home Free. ua-cam.com/video/IegxxhLWksI/v-deo.html Adam's part isn't much different that this video, but it cool to have all 3 of them together.
Some in the comments have suggested the live version of “9 to 5” with the fantastic beatbox breakdown, and I completely agree. I’d like to add another- you’ll not only get the group beatboxing, but you’ll get Gospel Rob cutting loose! The video is Home Free live at the Hosanna concert, 2013, singing their rendition of the Christmas carol “Joy to the World”. It’s a jazzy, funky arrangement; I love hearing Rob digging deep, and the group beatboxing is amazing. This video deserves a lot more views than it’s gotten.
The fact that people insinuate that the other 4 guys are fantastic beat boxers leaves the impression that Adam's skills are run of the mill and anyone can do it. The other guys do a respectable job of basic beat box, but to put them on the same level as Adam is insulting to Adam especially given that he's been working very hard at honing his skills for over 20 years to get as great as he is.
@@lindanearing4710 I did not state that the other 4 men are fantastic beatboxers. I stated the the group beatboxing is fantastic. In all of the times I’ve suggested this song I’ve never tried to diminish Adam’s skill. It’s great that he taught the others some things so they can further impress their audience. The other comments here re “9 to 5” have not diminished Adam’s skills. I don’t understand how you read that into the comments.
@@robynmatheson7687 It's not what's said. It's what's not said. EVERY TIME someone reacts to this video, there are dozens of comments stating, "They all beat box.". To someone not familiar with the group, it sounds like, "oh, this is no big deal, they all can do it." Very few people acknowledge Adam's performances unless they are hard core Home Fries. They blow right by what he's doing because he's so good at what he does. That's why I always comment on Adam's performances. The other four guys' awesome skills are front and center and hard to miss. Some reactors pay attention, but most don't. If people are gonna say they all beat box, it should be followed up with , "To some extent." I will always comment on Adam first because of that. Sorry you were offended by what I said, but subtle nuances make a difference.
I saw home free in concert this past December. If its possible for you too see them in concert you have to! It was the best concert I've ever been to. Adams set is better if you can believe it. Everyone especially Tim his amazingly funny. Felt like we were walking on air after.

@@lindanearing4710 That's correct. I personally think he's too humble, and also doesn't feel the need to "prove" himself. Could he win if he did compete? Absolutely. But that's not who Adam is. Every time I see comments about him winning competitions, I chime in, not to be mean or rude, but because he asked for word to be spread (which I saw in an interview from a few years ago) that it is false information.
I had the good fortune to see Tim Foust and Friends with around 100 other people back in November. Tim, Austin, Adam, Jeffrey East, Chris Chatham, and Christopher Marion. he's never competed, he's said himself that's a rumor that is false.
@@huldradraco Exactly.
I have seen Home Free 5 times in 4 different states, and Adam always brings the house down with this.
I once asked Adam when he breathed during his solo and he said he actually makes sounds as he inhales and exhales.
You should here Adam do Hamonica in Ain’t going down till the sun comes up.
I am just AMAZED at the multiple sounds he makes with his mouth all at the same time. I mean.... HOW??
Enjoyed your reaction.
I think it's time for a video where both Adam and Layne from VP show of lol
@@marcch72 Layne is okay at beatboxing but he is not in Adam's league.
Sir, this IS a world class beatboxer...has awards to prove it. One of the very best!
And the world class humor of Home Free live and upfront...
Love, love, love your reactions.
I've had the pleasure of seeing Home Free live and part of the show is Adam's solo from him.
Yes...Adam's world renowned! His brother, Chris said Adam has earned the title!
The guys say Adam actually has the widest vocal range. He hits crazy high AND super low notes making the sounds when he beatboxes.
I know we are nowhere near Christmas, but you really, really need to react to "Do you hear what I hear?"" Adam arranged it & it is a world-class masterpiece! They do some really great beatboxing & sound effects in it.
When you catch the live show, Adam uses a looper during his solos.
Since we can watch this video, we know you didn't die from watching Adam. I was a little worried for you. LOL!
As I recall, Adam has won the title of worlds best beatboxer twice. I don't know much more about it.
If you watch one of his newer drum solos you also get his one man EDM show where he plays with loopers and layers himself. It's wild
That was wild!!!
Adam does a beatboxing solo in every show so if you get to see them in concert you’ll get to witness his amazing performance live!
This is about eight (8) years old!! But so good and he has only improved.
Remember on top of his beatboxing skills he has a beautiful tenor voice Tim says that when Adam sings he actually sings higher than Rob
And, he has a fine singing voice that I enjoy the few times we get to hear it.
Adam Rupp is Amazing
Every time you pause I'm thinking..Yeah, wait a bit. ;)
There's another reactor; Drumming with Jarvis who has reacted to this.
Your brain is going to melt when you watch HF DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR. Adam did the arrangement.
Saw this live at the concert this past October. Was so wild and so funny too.
Yes, he is breathing in both directions. The diaphragm control and breath rates are phenomenal. My guess is that he has ripped abs.
Haven't seen this in a while, great reaction as always 👍
I have read, though not directly from Adam, that he uses breathing techniques he learned as a trumpeter and that he makes sounds while inhaling and exhaling.
His new version of this in live concert is rock level
You definitely need to see them live in concert! You'll never go to a better party than a Home Free concert! The guys are just so relaxed - they joke with the audience and each other, they tell stories about their experiences, and sound fantastic! Once in a while they mess up, forget a lyric, or something, or get a case of the giggles, and it's hilarious!! I haven't been to a concert where they really mess up, but I've seen a few videos, and they just laugh it off, take it in stride, and have a do-over. It's a great experience!
He truly is a one MAN show .
I love your reactions! They feel so real and authentic. ❤❤
And he didn’t even do the “nomonica” from “Man of Constant Sorrow”! Love your reactions!
Yes Adam is The Exceptional Freak of Nature
Adam trained and can play trumpet where he learned the circular breathing technique from.
I have not seen them in concert, but look forward to it eventually.
... i would adore a duet with him and Bobby McFerrin
When they were here in 2020 they did part of the chorus for 'You're the voice' I wanted them to do a full version.
@@lindanearing4710 I’m certainly not offended. I’m just not sure why you read my comment as dissing Adam. It is not written that way.
He definitely uses inhalation phonation in this, great reaction.
Told ya'!! 😅
Thanks for a great reaction! ❤
So glad you enjoyed it!
I saw home free in concert this past December. If its possible for you too see them in concert you have to! It was the best concert I've ever been to. Adams set is better if you can believe it. Everyone especially Tim his amazingly funny. Felt like we were walking on air after.
My niece is a DJ in Colorado and she plays a digerido...she said it requires "circular* breathing which is likely why he can keep those drums and everything else without taking a breath! Loved your reaction... somebody please donate ( I just don't have the funds) and request he react to 9 to 5 Breakdown where all the guys beatbox... it's excellent! Thanks
You HAVE to watch Hilariously Derailed that’s live in concert ! You’ll lose it !!
And that was many years ago. Hes improved even since then
He actually took drum lessons to know where to place his hands 🙃🎵🎶❤️‼️ He also plays the trumpet, numerous other instruments ….hmmmm….gave the wherewithal to make so many sounds ….& Blow our minds ❤️🙃‼️🔥.
Hell, he eats a drum kit for breakfast to begin his day 🙃🎵🎶‼️
He does a solo at each of their concerts….it’s Soooooo Funnnnn💥🔥‼️❤️. I’ve sat about 10’ away during it…WOWZA …FANTASTIC 💥🔥‼️❤️
The breathing in while still making the sound is known as circular breathing. It is the way a Didgeriadoo is played. Also the Bagpipes.
If you want to see an item from one of their older concerts, you should check out their guilty pleasures. That will give you an idea about how they are in concert.
This is a great video and reaction. Also please check out more recent ones. Adam uses a looper and it's more insane. Adam can't be human. Pretty sure Adam has won 3 times as a world champion. Someone else can clarify.
He has stated in interviews that the competition rumour to be false. He definitely could be a world champ, though!
@@TeahVickery He's never had the desire to compete, or for that matter, the time. He's always been too busy working and performing.
Adam floored me when he played bass and beatboxed at the same time on Devil Went Down to Georgia. It was also my first time hearing him include a looper in his beatbox solo. It seems there's no end to his talent.
There's also a version of Adam doing this set where he also Moonwalks.
Adam is a freak of nature! He is so very awesome! Talented does not say enough! He has won two beat boxing championships. If you have not heard it yet check out How Great Thou Art. He sings in that one. He has a very beautiful tenor voice. Love your reaction!
You are the best reactor ever!!!!! You Rock!😅😅😅
Adam has won the National beatboxing Championship many times
I need the view from a DJ for this incredible performance and this is all I need
That was so awesome! It would be so cool to see him and Layne do a collab together honestly. Thanks for the reaction request Teri! #DJantlers #DJsHerd 💜🦌
