The white gown it’s one of the best gowns ever. She looks fabulous, gave her an aura, a glow embraces her charisma….The movement, silhouette, color…She looked happy, rejoiced and singing like this moment and I love it….
Wow ! Another amazing insight in Diana fashion and designer skills. Beautiful video. Diana wore a BM gown in 2024 it appears dark red with a beautiful beads and sparking pink type stones on the straps but she told to the audience it is actually adapted from a dress from the 90's . Does anyone remember what the original was like?
I cant believe i never noticed the the "New" Supremes wore the original Supremes gowns. I was lucky enough a few yrs ago to see some of those gowns up close and personal ,when Mary Wilson was touring the country with them.
Your absolute passion for fashion and design is so strongly communicated throughout this video as is your love and devotion for Diana Ross. Always a pleasure to hear your views and opinions on this wonderful musical icon.
Bravissimo!!! Mackie and Mugler, I would say the designers that best complimented her style. Just as Herb Ritts, Harry Langford and Victor Skrebeneski were the photographers That immortalized those gowns. Interesting being a person of color, the thought of the watermelon dress being bigoted, just didn’t stick. I never understood why black people were/are ridiculed for fried chicken and watermelon. Both foods are available and popular in a wide array of countries. BUT as you were setting up the clip, i automatically knew it was the watermelon dress. Jackie and Ross were nominated for Costume Design Emmys in her television specials from “T.C.B.” To “Red Hot Rhythm and Blues”. The peacock blue gown looks almost aubergine in that photo. I have it framed from a photo book. (I keep hoping to find/meet a younger maybe newer fan to pass on my vast collection……most of my friends (past/present) already have their own collection). I have two storage rooms of memorabilia that when I become an expat will probably be left behind (sigh). Thanks to technology you can digitally store so much that the memories will live on.
I’ve always been curious about the watermelon gown and why Mackie would do that. But, as you said, to Diana’s credit, she dazzled in the gown and showed she was the star of the show - no matter what she was wearing.
Being a HUGE Bob Mackie fan myself, the one piece that i would just love to see up close and personal, was the nude gown Cher wore to the Met Gala and on the cover of Times magazine. Would love to see the inside of that gown, its truly amazing, have u talked about that gown in your other videos? Ive just discovered your channel. I heard Cher once say she keeps it in a shoebox on a shelf in her closet, i love that image.
I completely agree with you on that! I really would love to see the dress up close. I am fascinated by the way the illusion veil is layered up to 12 times with the patterns getting smaller and smaller to create the illusion of nudity. The Mitzi Gaynor silver fringe gown is also a spectacular piece.
Ah,thank u for that information, I never would have thought of it being layered, all these yrs I wonder how it was possible That man is a marvel. Thanks again for sharing
Hey Kirk, When she appeared in the red dress and coat withe the wind blowing in her hair and the video of Central Park behind her, wow That moment was pure magic!
Great analysis. I think there are very few French people who know Mackie and Halston. I think costumery and fashion design are very things with very different goals. Mackie and Halston took very different approaches to construction, Halston being an innovator of cut and structure. As I am not a POC, I don’t think it’s up to me to comment on whether someone should perceive the watermelon dress as racially charged, but I do think that fruit motifs in general are common in fashion. Bill Blass created a beautiful sequined watermelon jacket in the 1980s.
Bob Mackie is an absolute genius and Diana Ross was one of his many muses.

How tall is Diana, she looks like she could be 5/8?
I love the care your father took to talk to you about "Your star."
