d is the old pre 1971 symbol for pennies it goes back to Roman times, it means "dinarii". L for pounds S for shillings and D for pennies. LSD? Go figure.

I mean they're printed in America, on the same presses as the US priced copies, and at the same time as the US issue, but they just have a smaller print run making them a rarer variant?

you know how in the USA there are 100 pennies to 1 dollar? In Britain it is 100 pence to 1 pound, but that wasn’t always the case: before 1971 there were 240 pence to 1 pound. No joke! Back in those days, pence prices were denoted with a ‘d‘ - nine pence would be “9d” (and the “1/-” symbol denotes a “shilling”; back then, 1 shilling was equal to 12 pence). Then in 1971, Britain went through what is referred to as “decimalization” - resetting to 100 pence to 1 pound - and from that point forward pence prices began to be denoted with a ‘p‘.

Hey Dave, obviously I got rid of a lot of my stuff years ago and most of the time it will come back and bite you in the ass. I had a first print 8.5. I got hardly anything for that.. even with the down market comic books are worth much more than they were years ago. I think I told you at the New York City con. I was even offered $100,000 for my amazing fantasy.15 6.0 it looked more like a 7.0 I showed it to Heritage but it was a customer at the Comic Link booth that saw the book on my phone and said it was the nicest copy he ever saw for that grade.. anyway good luck with everything like my sister said you can’t take the stuff to your grave .

Have you or anyone else looked at how comic values have performed vs inflation? On your last podcast you said amazng fantasy 1 would always stay at 150 for a 9.8. But that means a year over year real loss. So i guess, the question, do you see comics like this as at least a hedge against inflation where i can still see a nice cover?, or are most just real losers?
It’s case by case. But I think the good stuff will out preform inflation. Moderns and majority of copper and some bronze. Will always just stick around case cost. I think most books will keep up with inflation though. So if $50 is $60 in 5 years. I think a lot of books will do the same
