I love the fact that throughout the entirety of this video, Kevin only used Heavy attacks, and didn’t roll until he got to the boss.

I'm glad you had a good time Kevin. The ending where you're so happy to have killed the boss is exactly why people play those games despite the difficulty and steep learning curve, it makes you feel so accomplished and you can actually feel yourself becoming a bit better with every death. By the way, the flail wasn't broken it's just that you didn't have the stats to use it but don't worry too much about that, most weapons in Fromsoft games, even the starting weapons, can carry you through to the end. Almost no weapon is ever objectively bad, it's just about how the weapons fit your playstyle.
I mean he should def pay attention to the stats but otherwise for sure agreed

This was different and nice, the mix of a bit of Kevin Stand-Up (literally) and gameplay footage was great. I am impressed by how well you actually did in this game too!

Highly doubt it'll happen, it's just not Kevin's cup of tea. I will say it's definitely the most accessible Souls game yet. Just don't miss the easily miss-able tutorial (you have to jump down a hole in the starting cave (after you get killed by the opening boss), a ghost in a throne points to it).

My dad hasn't played a video game since at least the 90's. It's nice to get a sense of what it'd be like to watch him play Elden Ring.
The way Kevin can come up with a joke on the spot at the last seconds of an intense boss battle just baffles me.

To be honest it wasn’t monstrous enough, the make up and body hair was a really nice touch though, with a frog face it would be even better

Kevin! As a souls veteran, it's extremely sweet watching your first experience with elden ring. It makes me really happy to see that you are having fun! A small tip that's gonna be really helpful but I'm sure you've had others tell you by now are backstabs and how to do them!.
When you go behind an enemy you can press RB to do a light attack! It triggers a sequence (You also can't be damaged by any other enemies while in it) where you stab them in the back, do loads of damage and knock the enemy down too! giving you loads of time to apply more pressure! :D i hope that's helpful and I'd love to see you continue this.
Like others have said, souls is about trial and error, with every death you get better and when you climb the gargantuan cliffs and peaks the game throws at you, you feel exhilarated, it would be awesome to see you experience that feeling more.
Also if you feel like your roll is too slow! You can de-equip some armour or change it to something lighter so you can roll faster :3

@@alexwakefield-pandorasthou6391 it does at least in ER, but you need to get Crafting set to alter armor. Poise negation is huge factor in armors.
Kevin jumping around like an idiot and still making progress in a souls-like is what I didn't know my life needed to be complete.
As a veteran of the series, you did really well for a beginner. And I'm not just saying that to compliment you, you actually did. Using guard counters, sneaking up on enemies for a backstab, knowing when to fight or run are huge things that I've seen many people not pick up on and quit because of it.

Sorry but no, he didn't do well. The "backstabs" weren't even backstabs, he didn't try to understand stamina, he never rolled and only got kills through enemies being staggered and spamming heals. And that would all be completely fine if the game didn't have a tutorial explaining its core mechanics, but it does. I'm guessing he probably skipped it.
But then again maybe Kevin is actually an extremely skilled player and he's trolling us masterfully by pretending to be bad xD

That first 'bit' where he couldn't close the cabinet was more funny than it should have been

The fact that you've been playing without locking on to enemies and fat rolling, you did really well
Honestly right when the first scripted boss fight started he jumped right over the first attack which was actually sick.
Wish he had fought that terrifying looking Watchdog instead of Beastboy as his first boss, but still hilarious to see Kevin winning fights by jumping around and spamming heavy attacks.
If you wanted to keep playing this there is a tutorial area in the beginning that tells you the controls for everything, you have to jump in some hole. Great video!

I'm incredibly proud of you, Kevin. I know these games can be really hard to get into for people who aren't super into them already, but beating even a simple boss is something to be excited over. Good job!
Kevin in case you want to continue the game here are some tips:
1.You can hit R1 insted of R2 for a faster atack (also known as a light atack).
2.You doge by rolling in this game (clicking sircle). The best way to doge in this gamr is to role into the enemy or around them becous of the way hitboxes work (do not doge before the initiate the atack animation) .
3. Your character is preforming whats known as "a Fat rolle" or "a slow rolle" to role faster you need to take off one of the weapons you have on you.
4.Your character has 2 weapons a Halibard (a spear like weapon that does trust atacks) and a sword (The one you're currently using) I whould sugest taking off the halibard to move faster and using a sword since its faster and easyer to use.
5. Lck on: by locking on the camera follows the character by it's self. You lock on by clicking R3 (or the right stick on the controler) .
Thats all I hope you have fun and i was really impresed by how far you got with out rolling.

@@dearleader1810 I haven’t checked but I think I’ve leveled up 3-4 times so far (playing as wretch). Was expecting a skyrim esque game and this is definitely different LOL

@@NadiaYC1998 oh you might have shoot your own foot by choosing the wretch, its a good class for veterans since its the most customizable in the long run, but definetely not beginner friendly.
here are some tips concentrate on your stamina bar the most and experiment with everything you never know whats for you
I hadn't gotten around to playing a Souls game before Elden Ring, picked Wretch because the scavenging aspect seemed fun, and managed to sprint up that hill on the horse and get to the next grace/bonfire. I was proud of myself lol.
I love how the Beastman boss introduces the player to the idea that dodging around like a fairy isnt necessarily the best strategy and that fighting the enemy head-on is actually the right move against some bosses

I love how Kevin's play style in these games can be best summarized as "brave cowardice." Also, is there a copy of this for VCR available?
I love that you just jumped off a cliff to avoid combat and it somehow worked. 99% of the time it's an instant gamer over but in your case it was a brilliant tactical retreat.

Yeah this has been my experience as a new souls player too. Don’t give up though, even if you play on your own. Elden Ring is SO fun to explore and get slowly better at.

As a new souls player this video is so reliable. I literally spent my first day in the first camp just farming because I was scared of going else where
I'm amazed you made it so far without using like half of the basic mechanics. That is insanely impressive lol.
I gotta tell you the truth Kev, I love your dedication to playing this with the frames at like 20 FPS at times 😂. Honestly, that had to be stupid difficult and annoying at times, pair that with the stuttering issue people are facing, you get a 10/10 Kev, love your content

@@vincentberglund3213 Most poorly optimizesd games will still run smoother if you turn down the details. And it didn't seem like low settings to me... I'd prefer N64 textures more than whatever this experience is.

HELLL YEAHHHH IT'S ELDEN RIIIIING AWESOOOMMMMEEE. I'm keeping away from all Elden Ring content so I will watch the hell out of those vids, just later. And I am using every single free moment I have to play it so I'm making progress, so I imagine in a couple weeks will have explored EVERYTHING and then will start watching all the Elden Ring playthroughs (100% starting with you).
