Had to refresh my memory and good god that actress *nailed it* as Liza! She's a woman who's been caricatured so many times (even by herself) that it's so easy to go too big but wow, she really managed to keep it small enough to be well rounded but still get that star quality across without making it comic. That's a skill.

Various awards?...she has won every important award possible..emmy,grammy,oscar,tony...in the 70's ,she was a major multitalented star all over the word...she remains a legend in europe because we are more faithful to artists we love even when they are less in the public eye..in america you treat them as kleenex when they are less in the medias...

This song shouldn’t work for so many reasons, and yet it’s famous, popular and loved over 50 years later. Non one else can sing it so it should be limited in its appeal and it’s entirely self-referential and could easily be narcissistic and complaining but in Liza’s hands it’s endearing and unforgettable.

This information is for the entire post/thread. I assume without knowing, that Liza used zed to emphasize that Liza has a z, not an s. Also I remember very well viewing this Liza tv special. They weren't shorts; they were actually underwear with lace trim that was designed to the seen below the hem of the dress. They were known - I kid you not - as "witches britches". They were a hot fashion item for about a minute-and-a-half in the late sixties. Even my middle-aged aunt bought them in a fit of fashion madness, but I don't believe she ever worked up the nerve to wear them.

Thing is, the puerile clothes make sense more than the halston designs, at least with this interpretation of the song: she is like a child and meant to be so. the haircut, the gigantic eyes, the fact that she repeats again and again how her name is pronounced go with this image of a person who wants to assert themselves, but people still don’t pay enough attention. So they have to explain it again and again.

Back when singers had talent, could actually sing and had stage presence with an audience!
    Come forward today...
    American Idol, The Voice, etc.
Performers "sing" former artists music, lack real talent, and only focus on pleasing the judges, to win, so they can be famous! 🤣
    The real difference is that
Liza with a "Z" is still performing
    50+ years later, as a STAR! 🤗

    • @EBrown-cr1gr

@@leslievasquez54 Yes, I am comparing performers who paid their dues, worked their way up, refining their talent, and remain "stars" rather than going on a "talent show: and winning based on voting ballots!
As good as Carrie Underwood or
Adam Lambert are for example, neither one can compare to those from the '50's/'60's or '70"s, who are still performing to sold out concert venues decades later.
And with constant changes of music, a performer is in and out
at a faster pace, and unable to build a long term career, like those in the past. The same can be said of those in sports, there's always another Tom, Tiger, Michael out to prove he/she is greatest.
If you still don't understand my point, not sure what to say.
