I always found it weird that the Mariinsky has such amazing dancers, but orchestras pretty much anywhere else in the world are better. The trumpet during Andrei Yermakov's Don Q sounds like a cartoon kazoo.
I often wonder why Russia has so many top ballet dancers? Or because they have a first-class ballet art education system, or their artists have lived in a harsh competitive environment and worked hard since childhood, or their social traditions encourage and respect successful artists.

Alina Somova is beautiful here, but I’ve been concerned about some of her recent performances. I did not think she danced well on the whole. It’s true she is a little heavier after having a baby, so maybe that’s it. You can see what I mean in the 2020 video of International Ballet Day.
Somova's really not a great dancer even before she got pregnant. She is really inconsistent. I guess Russian ballet directors promote their dancers based on the traditional aesthetic aspect of being a "diva" and not really based on capabilities and skills. I guess Mariinsky redeemed themselves by promoting Novikova recently who is far more superior than Somova.
It's very difficult coming back to performing after pregnancy and childbirth because of changes to the 'core' muscles. You can't just bounce back into shape.
ALINA SIMOVA HAS NEVER BEEN A QUESTIONABLE DANSER. SHE IS ONE OF THE MOST PRESSURE JEWELRY AT THE THEATER. The people who chose her to be a principal saw all she has to offer as a artist and a dancer- - technique, long beautiful legs, great extensions, musicality, artistry, hard work and ethics , and high professionalism. If someone doesn’t appreciate all her qualities and skills it’s their problem not hers. She has so soft jump landing that we can rarely hear any noise. When she dances she totally inhabits the role and expresses with the language of the dance movements the story of the character she presents. She is unique dancer, beautiful woman and an amazing artist.
