I had a Newfi years ago. One night some fools were driving down our driveway and causing a ruckus. I was going outside to see what was going on and she parked herself in front of the door and wouldn't let me out. Very protective, very sweet girl. My grandmother lived in the middle of nowhere and she asked if she could have my baby because she didn't really feel safe without a dog. So I let Granny have her. She passed several years ago and I still miss that sweetheart.
I love Newfies. Like this woman, I had Saint Bernards first - I was raised with them! As an adult I had Newfoundlands. The difference is that I had these large, heavy, active dogs in a cool climate in the high mountains of Colorado and Montana. The last Newfie I had when I moved to the Washington coast, where it is always cool and there is the cold ocean water to swim in, just like Newfoundland. These dogs need a cool climate and access to water they can swim in - cold water! I can't imagine having this huge, double-coated breed in the climate of Southern California, or anywhere hot. They are not apartment dogs, urban dogs, or even suburban dogs or park dogs. They are working dogs who should be out in the country, outside even in the winter (they love snow and are built for subzero weather), and allowed to live as their breed was intended to live. Keeping a Newfie in San Diego is just cruel. At least this woman does a lot of activities with her dogs, but she should consider NOT living in elfin' San Diego with them.
Newfies are great for first time owners. Like any dog, socialization and discipline are a must. They're even good in apartments, however, best in homes or large property. Multiple elderly people own these giants, so you don't necessarily need big dog experience.
If you love Newfoundland dogs so much maybe you should learn how to say the name properly 🙄 I live in NewFOUNDland and it's not called NewFINLand but somehow people still can't pronounced it right. I mean it's not hard, just say it how it's spelled NEW-FOUND-LAND and NOT NEW-FIN-LAND. Otherwise yes Newfoundland dogs are amazing dogs and just like any dogs if you give them the proper time to raise them as puppies you'd have the most mild manner dog, they're great with kids and will instinctively try to save people from the water... even when they don't need to 😂 as for kids, they're gentle giants and while they may be one of the best dogs for families you have to take into account their size so they may accidentally knock your baby or small tots down not trying to or even your decorations if you leave some at their level like on the coffee table etc especially if you live in a small apartment/house where they don't have much space to move around.
I grew up around many people from Newfoundland, and one of may closest friends is from there. I've only every heard them and the rest of us Canadians pronounce it newfinland.
@@tritchie6272 imagine if everyone always mispronounced where you're from even people in your own country, it's not like it's harder to pronounce it the right way though. Same thing with people in Quebec, people pronounce it que-bec when it's actually pronounce k-bec and I've often seen people from there after living elsewhere for a while they even start mispronouncing it on purpose, guess it's easier to mispronounced where you're from than correcting people all the time but point remains why not teach everyone how to say it properly instead so eventually everyone knows how to pronounce it properly rather than people from those places starting to mispronounce it instead. Idk makes more sense to me to teach ppl how to say it the right way. If you think me wanting to teach people is being triggered well so be it
