    St. Louis has a lot of former players who stuck around the area. A few years ago, I was in the line going into the game, and a guy next to me says, "Hey, do you remember Dwight Schofield? Here he is!" Pointing to the guy with him. I recognized him immediately, even though he was only with the Blues for a couple years in the mid-80s. This does not get talked about enough as one of the craziest series of events in hockey history
      - The Blues offer sheet Stevens to the biggest contract for a defenseman in the league from the Capitals
      - The contract was a large part in leading a mass rise in money for other players that eventually led to the 94-95 lockout
      - The Capitals received 2 first round picks, one of which being Sergei Gonchar
      - The Blues offer sheet Brendan Shanahan from the Devils
      - The Blues offer a couple of up and coming rookies Curtis Joseph and Rod Brind'Amour
      - An arbiter ruled that Scott Stevens was a more fair compensation
      - Stevens was pissed and held out for the Devils camp before eventually joining the team and winning a few cups
      - Shanahan goes on to score a few 50 goal seasons with the Blues before they trade him for Chris Pronger

    Nostalgia: In the early 70's Glen Sather played LW for St.L, and they had a young John Davidson playing Goal (Yes, that John Davidson). Although they went through Head Coaches regularly, in the 1970-71 season they had two of the greatest Coaches in NHL history in Al Arbour & Scotty Bowman.

      Yeah, and, five of their 1986 players played on the 1989 Flames, in a Cup they only won because their future goaltender, Grant Fuhr, choked away a, 3-1, lead, to Wayne Gretzky, and, the, Kings, and, everyone, but, Glen Sather, knew, he was washed.

      A shocking number of HoF players that are in the hall because of what they did on other teams played for the Blues. Brodeur, Kariya, Gretzky, Hawerchuk, Stastny, Housley, Scott Stevens, Arbour, Carbonneau...

    Hockey Guy,
    I'd like to see you do a Throwback Jersey Promotion off the Channel Down the Road, and I'd feel the Blues need to revive the Single Letter "BLUES" Jerseys where they where bigger than the Blue Note. Do a Jersey History Video because I'd like to see how the Past Teams (North Stars, Nordiques IE) Didn't Change Willy Nilly.

    • @barkofsky11
      @barkofsky11 2 роки тому +1

      If memory serves, that 1984-87 wordmark-over-note look is the only Blues jersey Shannon doesn't own an example of-unless he found one since the last jersey ranking video. I imagine they are pretty rare now.

    • @OldRustySteele
      @OldRustySteele 2 роки тому

      That jersey is the second-worst jersey in Blues history. The worst, of course, is the one with the diagonal stripes and large area of red on the bottom.
      The Blues jerseys look best with the Blue Note only. No word marks. Also only in blue and gold. NO RED, PLEASE!!!

    • @barkofsky11
      @barkofsky11 2 роки тому +1

      @@OldRustySteele I agree. NO RED! No wordmark needed either, and certainly no little generic-font "St. Louis" on the Note, as if it had to be labeled that way in the store and somebody forgot to remove it.

      Hey Barko, you and I think exactly alike!
      That said, I do like the alternate Jersey which has the Blue Note framed by the Gateway Arch inside the circle. That one is OK. Matter of fact, years ago I had envisioned a logo with just the Blue Note framed by The Arch. Nothing else. Still simple and classy.
      I’m 68 and have been a fan since 68, so I’ve lived through every Blues season and seen every Blues jersey. While I like the original and the Winter Classic version of the original, I still think our current modern one is the best. I especially like the road white since it makes the Blue Note stand out even better!
      I wear my white jersey in winter (or what passes for winter) here in San Antonio and I often get people unaware of hockey say what a good looking jersey it is without even knowing what team it represents.
