Hi Laura, I just started throwing one piece lidded jars. I have been watching other potters, but your explanation, especially being able to change the shape is very helpful. I also like how you lifted the extra clay off of the top when closing.
When I try to close the form, my lip gets wonky. Every. Single. Time. I try to compress the lid as I go but I can't figure out what I'm doing to knock it off level.

That happens a lot. You can trim off the uneven part of the lip before closing it. I hope I understood you correctly.
