This is a refreshing interview in the current context of the war, all the more so because Mr. Turner obviously has a lot of experience on the ground. Ever since 1945 Russia just has to say, "Boo!" and the West jumps. Isn't it high time to call Russia's bluff once and for all? This was a devesating oversigh on our side. 3. Russia doesn't have 'Red Lines'. They have been blurting so much nonsense over the years that we really couldn't tell. The 'Red Lines' exist only in our own imaginary minds and because we talk about them, Russia gladly picks them up, sees that they are things we are 'scared' about and blurts them back at us because it makes us jump. Nato took Kosovo by force from Serbia after a bombing campaign of 78 days against Serbia. They weren't interested in the territorial integrity of Serbia so what makes Ukraine any different? Is it because WE took the territory form Serbia and that makes it right to do so? We in the west are responsible for far worse than Russia in that we invaded Iraq on false pretences and supported regime change in Syria that caused the rise of ISIS. We also created a failed state in Libya and 20 years of intervention in Afghanistan led only to the reestablishment of the Taliban. Every intervention also resulted in millions of refugees fleeing to the west and many times the lives lost than killed in any war Russia was involved in. We also provoked the Russian invasion by refusing to even discuss with Russia that Ukraine should remain a neutral state. The real threat to peace is not Russia but western interventions in the affairs of other countries. Furthermore we have only driven Russia into closer alliance with China that benefits China enormously and that harms western interests considerably.

Putin's description of a neutral state is one that is pro-Kremlin. Did he need to annex Crimea? Did he need to invade the rest of Ukraine in '22? No, he didn't. Prior to his invasion? @@markmaher4548 The disastrous Yugoslav breakup got going when Croatia broke away and was recognised by W Germany. That was a red rag to a bull for Serbia because Germany was Croatia's ally in WW2 and the Croats committed genocide on the Serbs during that time. Germany persuaded other EU countries to follow suit but the correct course would have been to try and organise some peace talks to see whether a much looser federation could be agreed upon that would avoid war. Germany instead threw petrol on the flames. The Bosnian war was caused because we the west proceeded with an independence referendum knowing full well the Serbs violently disagreed. The requirement for independence was that a turnout of two thirds of the electorate was required for the vote to be valid but that was not reached because of a boycott by the Serbs but the EU recognised independence and so set off the civil war. When we knew that would happen, aren't our western leaders to blame? The question you should be asking is not about genocide during the breakup of Yugoslavia but why did the west want to break up Yugoslavia in the first place and cause such destruction and carnage rather than try to salvage what they could with a looser federation that could have prevented the carnage that followed? Any chance of achieving a satisfactory outcome in Afghanistan was thrown away when Bush decided to invade iraq on false pretences. That meant the US took their eye off the ball and that allowed the Taliban to make a comeback so the failure was down to the USA who eventually decided to cut and run after 20 years. We could have saved ourselves enormous amounts of blood and treasure by a short in and out operation to remove the Taliban and Al Qaeda after 9/11. That could have been more successful long term because all the governments we supported during those 20 years of occupation were tainted by corruption and by being financed and supported by foreigners. The government we supported collapsed like a pack of cards after the US left. Putin's view of a neutral state was Finland before they joined Nato. Russia, and the USSR before that, respected Finland's neutrality and Finland was not a pro Russian state. Of course Finland giving up neutrality makes it difficult for russia to simply accept that ukraine would remain a neutral state as they demand even if Ukraine agreed. They would need guarantees after Finland gave up neutrality. You don't appear to realise that Ukraine joining Nato at any time in the future is completely unacceptable to Russia. That was why they invaded.
@@dacorum8053none of your "West is evil" arguments negate the fact that Russia has a long history of invading its neighbors and taking them over, and will continue to do so until stopped. The last time the West failed to stop an aggressive military power, WWII was the result. Those who fail to learn from the mistakes of history are destined to repeat them.

I wonder and wonder and can't find an answer: how is it that only the British have a really deep understanding of Russia and the wars caused by Russia? With the exception of Russia's neighbours who have been directly affected by Russian occupation throughout history, no other country in the world comes close to understanding Russia through its diplomats, historians, and political and military analysts.
World bank : Russia rose from middle income to middle-high income country, due to a decent purchase power out there IMF : Russian gdp growth reach beyond 3,5% in 2024. Meanwhile Ukraine passed a law not to pay debt interests for two consecutive months
also russian rouble went from 30 for a dollar to over 90 for a dollar....inflation has gone from 3% to 11%. Bank interest rates went from 7% to 19%. Egg shortages, Gasoline shortages. Labour shortages. Head of russias banks says it wiull be broke in 2025. And putin just signed a law making russias national census not required in 2025, even though they have had one every 5 years forever. Putin doesnt want the world to know russia is down to under a 100 million people now with everyone leaving!
@@MrGatzbyYou’re raising an interesting point. Since Russia invaded Crimea in 2014, much like in Russia itself, there have been no fair or open elections, so it is difficult to accurately gauge what the public opinion is. The most reliable information dates back to 2013 (prior to the Russian invasion), where support for joining Russia had dropped to 23% of the population. Since the economy in Crimea has worsened considerably since Russia illegally annexed it, it’s probably safe to assume that the figure would be lower that 23% now amongst true Crimeans.
Ukraine was in no position to challenge Russia's illegal annexation. Especially after Russia fueled the civil war within Ukraines border with arms and mercenaries. The same support that led to MH17 being shot down, killing 298 civilian, including 38 Australians. The fascists in the Kremlin refuse to hand over the people responsible.
How many fled and lost their homes? How many have been jailed and killed since? How many have been conscripted? How many of them have been killed? How many have been forced to fund the invasion through their taxes?

All the criticisms the guy is laying on Russia at the start of this video sounds exactly the same as what is happening in Europe and America. word for word.
Putin and Kim couldn't organize a peanut butter sandwich, so the possibility of them forming an alliance against the West is just blowing smoke.
They already have
And yet Russia is outproducing entire NATO, while North Korea provided more shells for Russia than entire NATO for Ukraine

@@MrThartofwar Actually the ground war is far from where it counts. Marginal gains here and there and for what cost??? I wonder and wonder and can't find an answer: how is it that only the British have a really deep understanding of Russia and the wars caused by Russia? With the exception of Russia's neighbours who have been directly affected by Russian occupation throughout history, no other country in the world comes close to understanding Russia through its diplomats, historians, and political and military analysts.

World bank : Russia rose from middle income to middle-high income country, due to a decent purchase power out there
IMF : Russian gdp growth reach beyond 3,5% in 2024.

I have a question. How many people were killed in the Crimean invasion in 2014?
There was no invasion! 2 people died.
@@OniksRThanks for the info because the MSM keeps telling us that the Crimean people want to be part of Ukraine.
