  • The Gardens at Wentworth Woodhouse are an incredible survivor. Wonderfully designed in the 18th and 19th centuries, they were almost destroyed by open cast mining just after the end of the Second World War.
The 21st Century has seen their rebirth and this video celebrates the survival of the Gardens and the launch of our 'Wentworth's Coal Story' exhibition. Wentworth Woodhouse’s connection to the coal industry spans more than 200 years. In the exhibition, we explore the stories of those who worked underground on estate land, with objects and images loaned by members of the community.
Discover more about the relationship between the ‘Big House’ and the workers and the impact coal had on the surrounding landscape. The exhibition is co-produced by Wentworth Woodhouse’s research volunteers and made possible with support from the local community.
Entry to the exhibition is included with a General Admission ticket to the House.
