@@GregoryShtevensh iRacing has admitted their tire model is lacking with regards to ABS, and a complete rework of how ABS interacts with the tires is on the way eventually. @Felipe.8586 I bet you dollars to pesos you never tried a real PC sim racing title like rFactor 2. Most in here make their expert opinions known without ever switching a PC on.
I began gaming when it required a quarter for every game and Pong was the hot ticket on a black/white television. For me a Playstation that is replaced every 5 years or so without draining my wallet trying to keep a computer updated is why I have not left the platform. Let alone the fun factor is why my wife can now enjoy racing as well. Fun and funding is a big factor for our household - although if we wanted more realism - we would invest in a shifter kart, trailer etc.
Part of the challenge is how to get your tyres up to temp quickly without losing it and it makes it so failing and resetting is punishing and costs you time so you got to be on it. I understand what you're saying though
I refused to pay subscription prices for any games - IRacing being one of them. I only have one time buys of SIM racing games from STEAM on my PC. Even though people call them SIM racing, they are still just games to me. I don't have any elaborate racing Rig, and try to buy any games when on sale pricings. I do have VR when I race. My favorite racing games are AC1, RFactor 2, AMS 2, and ACC. I also have nice Rally and F1 racing games. Thanks for the video. Take care.
Hi guys. I am new to sim world. I have just started with GT7 because I think is too early for me to pay the price for iRacing (subscription, cars, tracks). I will definitely join iRacing after I will be more comfortable with sim racing. What I would like to ask you (specially the once having experienced with both iRacing and GT7), from driving perspective and car dynamics, how far apart are these 2 simulators? How close to real life is GT7?
Hey man. Sorry for the late reply. I think GT7 is a great first step into sim racing. Many of the techniques you learn to be fast in GT7 carry over to the more hardcore sims like iRacing. GT7 simulates all the fun things about racing. iRacing simulates a lot more detail.
Low fuel motorsport is free with the use of ac and acc but since i suck i dont really get good racing like i do in iracing but then again its all for fun
I’ve not tried it on controller. It might be a little sketchy on the brakes with controller. But maybe easier to catch a slide on exit. I most often left foot brake. But when I was testing the h pattern gear shift I was right foot braking.
iRacing is probably the most realistic sim going as we speak. I had a 3 month subscription when Ii purchased something. But it's the monthly subscription just for the basic content that I don't like. Having DLC is one thing, but paying for pretty much all cars and tracks doesn't gel with me.
I hate that everything is subscription based. Just a reminder you’re renting the ability to play and don’t actually own anything you’ve spent the money on
I recently pointed out that what kept me away from pc, was the fact that I could decide to turn on GT7, and literally be on a track racing in about 40 to 45 seconds, and that included a trip to the refrigerator while the software itself was loading. It struck a nerve 😂
That certainly shouldn't stop you. My M.2 drive completely boots my pc in seconds and I can be racing within a minute. 1440p ultrawide on a 4080 Super graphics card with maxed graphics at 180+ frames (200hz monitor) just isn't possible on console and takes me the same time. Not to mention the availability of games compared to console limitations. Let's be real, it's the cost, not the ability to turn on your console quickly.... And that's totally fair. There's nothing wrong with that. It is more expensive, no doubt.
@@soxfan5240 misery loves company. I think when you have several thousand dollars sitting in the corner of your bedroom, it becomes impossible for you to imagine anyone else wanting anything less
A good video, cheers. I was ACC only with the odd dabble in AMS2 and before that Forza on console. I got a £25 yearly sub via the UK Motorsport / FIA promotion (+ the F4 car thrown in) so thought I'd try it. Since that day a few months ago I've realised why it's by a LONG way the most popular racing sim on PC and each time since then I try ACC or AMS2 they feel lacking in many ways. I am looking forward to Assetto Corsa EVO and hoping LMU gets the two final DLCs as promised because I will try them both but for now iRacing is above all else.
Adjust your brakes in the settings so you can hoof the brake and be on the edge of lockup every time. You're welcome. Credit to Shaun Cole for this tip.
Visual experience also matters which iracing unfortunately can't suggest in many aspects. Many people forget that simulation as a definition isn't about physics only.
Switch from FM to ACC almost 2 years ago then I tried IRacing and honestly I didn't like it at first but the more I play the .more I enjoyed I only race gt cars
And if you have friends that play then have them help you. We just helped a friend getting into iracing two weeks ago and he is now B-license and know his way around the gui.
One massive tip is you don't want to brake more than 80% peak most of the time. iRacing doesn't reward braking deep and hard it just kills apex speed and over heats the surface of the tyre. Maybe that helps, maybe you already knew about it. good luck
GT7/Forza is cool to play online for quick fun no need to invest much time just hop on and go for casual fun IRacing is more involved and not a simple hop in and go Depending on the day I love them both but I do prefer IRacing abit more as it’s more rewarding in the end but also very frustrating
For me the Iracing is the best racing sim. It's got the best AI, best damage model, best online mode. I meant the AI are literally like fighting real players because of how unpredictable they can be at times
I switched to iRacing but sometimes miss GT7 fun in VR2. For some reasons the biggest thing I hate in IR is how dirty the drivers are there, in 3 out of 4 races someone kills you in T1 or T2 due to cold tires mega divebombing or because of someone thought you’re not there since IR doesn’t have radar, and this is in top splits… I rarely remember ruined races in GT7…
I don't understand why you can't use higher graphics settings when only running at 75Hz. I am using iRacing in VR and I can do much better than this. What system were you using? Also, it looked like you didn't calibrate your FFB as it was clipping, and that's probably why you thought it felt so heavy. Although you might have set it up for this car like that, I don't know what it drives like in real life. But yeah, I haven't seen iRacing look so ugly since I stopped using a 970. I would also say that iracing is about the online stuff, not the hot laps. Most people are there for the huge race lobbies, although that many drivers comes with its own issues. Maybe drive iRacing on-line and see what you think? Be good to hear that comparison to GT7.
The biggest problem is that it’s runing on the same pc (laptop) that is also capturing all the video at the same time. That’s almost twice the overhead of just running iRacing.
I haven't tried iRacing, I've only got GT7 and ACC. For me it's just the money, looking at iRacing it's going to cost me at least $1k to get the all the cars and tracks that I want. Which is crazy for a game or sim. Compare that to what I've paid $60 for GT and same for ACC.
you don't need to buy all the cars and tracks, and honestly you shouldn't. there are some unpopulated series and cars that you wont ever be using. you can honestly play with just the base game for years and not get too bored. you can get by your career with just a few cars whether you go the formula route or sports car route and get the tracks that are most common and populated and be done.
I went from gt sport to iracing and found it a smooth transition. After a couple of years i tried gt7 and found it very odd handling and force feedback. I was put off iracing because of the cost but the reality of the service they put on its well worth the price. At first it can be when expensive buying tracks and cars but when the initial investment is done and only buying the 1 year subscription on black friday it costs less than 1 coffee per month. It really depends on how much you will use the service, I'm online for about 6-8 hours a week so about 30 hours a month so for me its well worth the money.
technique, memorizarion strategy and minding the car are the only similar things about sims compared to real cars, its transferable to real cars but not the other way, driven a lot of high sim rigs and still nothing compares to the real thing for feel
I never tried either game. I don't do iRacing due to the cost plus the fact that I'm a lousy driver and I'd just be a menace out there. I'd actually love to play GT7, but I'm a PC driver so unfortunately I'll probably never get the chance. Too bad, it looks like a really good game.
GT7 is nowhere near to iRacing. It's Simcade vs Simulation iRacing has realistic engine performance, and the car can be faster or slower depending on the track temperature, and you could blow up your engine if you downshift too aggressively or you stay on red line for too long also the engine braking really does something not only it can help you decelerate faster but it can make the car to rotate more. Tires physics the car can gain or lose grip depending the track temperature, how you manage the tires temp (did you lock up the tires and overcook them on entry that lead to understeer or oversteer mid corner?) expect when it's raining both sim have similar tires physic. For me i found myself that cars in GT7 are understeer a lot no matter what i do with the balance of the car, downshift more aggressively more tail braking the car is still understeer compared to iRacing because it doesn't have slip angle. In iRacing you can dance with the car when cornering. And the most thing that annoyed me is the cars in GT7 are understeer on entry but when it wants to snap on you, it just happens right away! Without any signals from the FFB.
@Doughtinator To be honest, GT7 is not a bed video game at all. It's good for beginners who just start racing and rank up to a pro. I tried both games, finished the career mode, got both normal and super licenses, all gold. When I switched to iRacing, I easily adept to it right away, but when I came back to GT7, I felt the difference between both game offers in terms of physics Like I said, cars in GT7 tend to understeer on entry a lot, but in iRacing, you can easily spin the car with the tail braking, which it makes sense. In GT7, it felt the car was lazy and didn't want to turn at all even with the tail braking, but hey!! Tail braking is still a must in GT7 even if it feels off a bit. The reason GT7 makes the cars understeer because it's a friendly video game that anyone can play, and most people still use the controllers, making the cars a bit oversteer or slip angle will be too hard for them so it's completely understandable.
you can see at the beginning of the video that he turned almost everything off in the graphics... every games looks like shit when you play on a patato PC. this game is old but it only means that people with patato PC can still play with decent frame rates by turning graphics down when they couldn't with a more recent game where the minimum requirements are much higher. just go watch some iracing streamers and you'll see that it looks much better than that. as an exemple I run a triple screen setup with an old 1060 (not even Ti) and I never go under 60 fps in any situation at 1080p, can go up to 144 fps when I'm alone on track in test drive and I use better settings than him, it doesn't look that bad
iRacing is all about the online racing experience. That's where the value for most people is and that's why they pay for it,...otherwise you could literally just play any other sim with decent physics. How can you make an informed judgement (one way or the other), if you just did a solo testdrive session? Besides, you set the graphics settings to basically bare minimum, have no other cars on track and say the graphics are not engaging?
Yeah I get that completely. But perhaps you got me wrong. I actually like iRacing. I enjoyed it 🤷🏻♂️ Also. I played iRacing 10 or so years ago so it’s not only experience. But I think things have improved a lot since I last raced.
Gran Turismo is the best at allowing a child with no experience to enjoy and also people with more experience to enjoy... There are definitely more realistic games and less realistic but for me Gran Turismo has the best of both... I do like Forza but could never get used to using an Xbox controller over a PlayStation where i use the direction buttons rather than the toggle pads... i have a Logitech G29 but still prefer the ease to play with controller... for ultra realism i just go out an drive my real car lol... These games allow me to drive cars i dont own in places i cant be and to modify them without regulation... ultra realism will be boring to most that play sims
My complains about Gran Turismo are 1) The tired career mode and 2) The average online player is a mix of vulgar trolls with completely casual lemmings and none of those things are a pleasure to me. But in car behavior dept, things improved in very large steps since GT5 and GT6 didn't own anything to iRacing in this subject back then. I believe that the most important thing to a simulator is it's community. I shared some online sessions with a good bunch of completely a-holes, but overall (specially when you level up your account) I have some of my best online racing experience there. The great issue for me about iRacing is that there is a long time now (basically 2010 to now) that my country's currency (Brazilian Real) is in an overwhelming exchange rate depreciation that make everything in this GAME (yes... let's call things by what they are, shaw we) too expensive to race. Anyway, iRacing is not the end all about online racing... maybe it is if the player is really good, but otherwise, you will find amazing races on any other simulator. I believe that even in GT7 is now possible to find a good online race league and be happy. And, if you really want my opinion about GT7 vs iRacing, considering everything I said: Would take GT7 without thinking twice. Don't do that because a PS5 is also expensive here and I don't give a crap about the other games for it
so i started sim racing on GT7. about a year and a half into my sim racing journey I got iRacing. I LOVE iRacing, BUT...... I hate the wheel to wheel sanctioned racing. It's way too serious. That's the single biggest drawback for me with iRacing. However.... the single player stuff in iRacing is fantastic. It's pretty much all I use it for. But for racing, I much prefer GT7. I just got the new psvr2 pc adapter and man....... iRacing in VR is PHENOMENAL! It's all I want to do now lol.
Graphics are a weird one in iRacing, especially if you are running it on a laptop with settings turned down. Personally I have it cranked up and only play in VR and with it being an older game engine it runs amazingly and looks shaper and more vibrant than any other sim I have on PC. I came from GT7 to iRacing 10 months ago and I love it. So much more choice for online racing. People say it a rip off as a subscription. But if you get a year on Black Friday it is 25% of making it $83 so £63 thats £5.25 a month. Also 40% for newcomers its $66 (£50.30) for a year which is £4.19 a month. Which is less than I pay for PS plus to race in GT7. The content is what makes iRacing expensive, not the subscription. £10 a car and £13 a track where I live. Ive spent almost £300 in 10 months. But now I have most of the content I want I don't need to buy much more. But you can race not buying any content in rookies, and as you get better you will get in higher splits and not have to race idiots. MX5 and FF1600 are great series. I find it hard going back to GT7 now, i'm S rating and still get people ramming me. Do that in iRacing an you get a ban, & you can protest other drivers. So for me iRacing is worth the money.
I totally agree with you. This guy turns the graphics completely down, gets barley playable framerates in a solo session, and says "the graphics are not engaging".
I tried playing the "real sims" even bought a nice pc. I get irritated with the controls always needing to be mapped and general Windows jank. I much prefer turning on the ps5 and everything just working how it's supposed to. I've still yet to get automobilista 2 to work properly on my dd extreme or tgt 2
I can only assume that you have the moza R5 bundle with the basic pedals. If you want a really nice upgrade order the SR-P lite brake pedal performance kit. It elevates your braking games by a ton!
Iracing also lack a lot of simulation, it's not more a SIM then GT7 or any other PC sim. They both do simulation, but its not same thing as real. I play both, and not only. Thing is Iracing is a dull, boring thing , it becomes so very quickly. It's perfect for clean racing experience and fore some specific cars as V8SC, but not good for overall racing experience or just having a good time. True racing irl is a fun, clean but fun. GT7 lack clean aspect sometimes, but it has closest driving exprerience. But it's all about personal tastes.
You did AMAZING for being your first time. iRacing is probably the best simulation engine (although, GT7 isn't fully activated on PS5 due to hardware limitations) but I hate the graphics and subscription model so I stay away from it.
Im at a age where spending like 300bucks for something that I genuinely enjoy feels like nothing kinda. So ye in comparison to other games iracing is expensive. But anything outside in the real world hobby wise will cost me even more and quicker lol
Incredibly boring to watch and looks even more tedious to play those who stayed loyal to the game that made them successful streamers seem to be revelling in subs increase and those who obviously think like mythic + players on Warcraft need to rethink their beginnings
I used to main GT sports and GT7 but since trying out iracing i have not looked back. I'm completely hooked on iracing, that being said i get very annoyed when ppl shit on gt7 calling it arcade and not a real sim. it was no issue taking my skills from gt7 on the controller to iracing on a wheel, so much of what i learned in gt7 was transferable, particularly wheel to wheel racing and on the fly line improvisation. whenever i watch gt7 vids on yt now, im always thinking how i wish iracing can look as good.
wow, how potato is your PC to have to run that low graphics lol, thats crazy - interesting that Gran Turismo does not require any power in terms of a PC.

@@Doughtinator Considering you can run almost maximum graphics on a modern 8GB card, its easy to conclude theyre out of date, especially compared to modded AC. Iracing Frame Rates suffer due to CPU bottlenecking, the game is coded on a single thread like its 2008, and graphics now come down to the CPU you are using instead of VRAM and GPU capabilities. The release of the Mclaren following the rain update back to back in a few months of each other has seemed to pushed alot of regular users who were getting by over into the almost unplayable category due to CPU bottlenecking. @@ibanezlaney have to disagree with that ACC can be a little forgiven. I actually prefer playing ACC sometimes but even professional GT drivers have said I racing feels the most accurate. In real life ABS does increase braking distances with the trade off of preventing tire lockup, however in iRacing your tire temps spike way more than IRL or in other games
Ingot into iRacing after injuring my back and have been hooked ever since. In my opinion, at least for dirt racing sims. Nothing beats iRacing.
iRacing is all about racing. The fidelity, car/track selection and everything else is secondary.
The match making and racing is superb 👍🏻👍🏻
If you want competitive anytime racing across different cars and tracks, Iracing is untouchable

Competition on iRacing is so damn good.
Very true. The best thing about iRacing is the racing 👍🏻👍🏻
GT7 needs to improve that penalty and crash models. This is by far the most arcade like part of the game.
03:26 I had no idea about the tyre warm-up phase... I'm not sure how user-friendly that makes a TT mode!
Yeah it’s not ideal for time trial.
Part of the challenge is how to get your tyres up to temp quickly without losing it and it makes it so failing and resetting is punishing and costs you time so you got to be on it. I understand what you're saying though
Yeah, that's a good way of looking at it 👍
After so many years Im asking the same question but no one answer. How to define a SIM or SIMCADE? Is that personal definition or standard definition?
It seems VERY personal really. Always the topic of heated debate 🤷🏻♂️🤣
Probably personal opinion, my version is sim is like real life as possible, simcade is close but has quirks like ghosting, no damage etc.
I love GT7 but damn the online racing is so dirty now
Yeah. I’ve not done much sport mode in a little while. I would like to try it again and see how it is.
Yeah and that's why people pay for iRacing.
Take care.
The subscription keeps the riff raff out so online play is for people actually interested in racing
That great big American truck at island bend ain't realistic 😊
Low fuel motorsport is free with the use of ac and acc but since i suck i dont really get good racing like i do in iracing but then again its all for fun
Good luck in the live event!
How is it on controller or can controller not be used! Do you left foot brake?
I’ve not tried it on controller. It might be a little sketchy on the brakes with controller. But maybe easier to catch a slide on exit.
I most often left foot brake. But when I was testing the h pattern gear shift I was right foot braking.
iRacing is probably the most realistic sim going as we speak. I had a 3 month subscription when Ii purchased something. But it's the monthly subscription just for the basic content that I don't like.
Having DLC is one thing, but paying for pretty much all cars and tracks doesn't gel with me.
I hate that everything is subscription based. Just a reminder you’re renting the ability to play and don’t actually own anything you’ve spent the money on
Yeah the subscription model is what puts a lot of people off.
until you try acc ;-)

I recently pointed out that what kept me away from pc, was the fact that I could decide to turn on GT7, and literally be on a track racing in about 40 to 45 seconds, and that included a trip to the refrigerator while the software itself was loading. It struck a nerve 😂
Yeah you can’t beat GT7 for pick up and play 👍🏻
That certainly shouldn't stop you. My M.2 drive completely boots my pc in seconds and I can be racing within a minute. 1440p ultrawide on a 4080 Super graphics card with maxed graphics at 180+ frames (200hz monitor) just isn't possible on console and takes me the same time. Not to mention the availability of games compared to console limitations.
Let's be real, it's the cost, not the ability to turn on your console quickly.... And that's totally fair. There's nothing wrong with that. It is more expensive, no doubt.
@@soxfan5240 nice joke

@AndreiSZS wish it was lol. PC has a ton of downsides but modern PC's are super quick in regards to loading games and boot times
That’s a great deal 👍🏻👍🏻
Adjust your brakes in the settings so you can hoof the brake and be on the edge of lockup every time. You're welcome. Credit to Shaun Cole for this tip.
Visual experience also matters which iracing unfortunately can't suggest in many aspects.
Many people forget that simulation as a definition isn't about physics only.
I just started on the 1st of Oct. I cannot figure iracing out AT ALL!!! GT is soo much easier
It’s like that for everyone, It becomes easier! Keep at it you won’t be disappointed 👍🏼
It’s very true that investing time into learning is rewarding.
Maybe that helps, maybe you already knew about it. good luck
GT7/Forza is cool to play online for quick fun no need to invest much time just hop on and go for casual fun
IRacing is more involved and not a simple hop in and go
Depending on the day I love them both but I do prefer IRacing abit more as it’s more rewarding in the end but also very frustrating
You need some pedal shakers. It will help to stop the spinning out.
It's a game, don't be shy 😉
👀🤣
You can run totally fixed setup races and don’t need to worry about anything just jump on and drive
Very true. The fixed setup series do help 👍🏻
The best thing about iracing is the ability to get a race in something you enjoy driving 24/7. That's where it shines.
What sim gear do you use mate?
I use the MOZA R5 bundle. GT OMEGA Classic wheel stand. Rear frame and RS6 seat. Should be some links in the description 👍🏻👍🏻
I'm sorry, but doing solo Timetrials is NOT testing iRacing.
True. But that’s what the competition was and that is what this video is about.
100%
@@Doughtinator Okay, but you should still be able to get a bit better than what you had, even with OBS running.
I haven't tried iRacing, I've only got GT7 and ACC. For me it's just the money, looking at iRacing it's going to cost me at least $1k to get the all the cars and tracks that I want. Which is crazy for a game or sim. Compare that to what I've paid $60 for GT and same for ACC.
you don't collect cars in iracing like you would in gran turismo
you don't need to buy all the cars and tracks, and honestly you shouldn't. there are some unpopulated series and cars that you wont ever be using. you can honestly play with just the base game for years and not get too bored. you can get by your career with just a few cars whether you go the formula route or sports car route and get the tracks that are most common and populated and be done.
Mastering just 2 or 3 cars and 5-10 tracks will take you months of not years

After a couple of years i tried gt7 and found it very odd handling and force feedback.
I was put off iracing because of the cost but the reality of the service they put on its well worth the price.
At first it can be when expensive buying tracks and cars but when the initial investment is done and only buying the 1 year subscription on black friday it costs less than 1 coffee per month. It really depends on how much you will use the service, I'm online for about 6-8 hours a week so about 30 hours a month so for me its well worth the money.
3 words: laser scanned tracks 🤷🏾♂️
I race iRacing. It's still a game. If it was a pure sim you wouldn't have iRating etc which people lose sleep over. :-D
technique, memorizarion strategy and minding the car are the only similar things about sims compared to real cars, its transferable to real cars but not the other way, driven a lot of high sim rigs and still nothing compares to the real thing for feel
It's Simcade vs Simulation
iRacing has realistic engine performance, and the car can be faster or slower depending on the track temperature, and you could blow up your engine if you downshift too aggressively or you stay on red line for too long also the engine braking really does something not only it can help you decelerate faster but it can make the car to rotate more.
I think I this is a pretty balanced and correct summary 👍🏻👍🏻
@Doughtinator To be honest, GT7 is not a bed video game at all. It's good for beginners who just start racing and rank up to a pro. I tried both games, finished the career mode, got both normal and super licenses, all gold. When I switched to iRacing, I easily adept to it right away, but when I came back to GT7, I felt the difference between both game offers in terms of physics
Like I said, cars in GT7 tend to understeer on entry a lot, but in iRacing, you can easily spin the car with the tail braking, which it makes sense.
As an AMS2 racer I could never play something that looks this shit. The graphics look like something from 2005.
Lol. I get people don't like the graphics but I personally prefer having the highest frame rates.
you can see at the beginning of the video that he turned almost everything off in the graphics... every games looks like shit when you play on a patato PC. this game is old but it only means that people with patato PC can still play with decent frame rates by turning graphics down when they couldn't with a more recent game where the minimum requirements are much higher. just go watch some iracing streamers and you'll see that it looks much better than that. as an exemple I run a triple screen setup with an old 1060 (not even Ti) and I never go under 60 fps in any situation at 1080p, can go up to 144 fps when I'm alone on track in test drive and I use better settings than him, it doesn't look that bad
Does the moza R5 work on ps5?
No
I racing in vr is insanely good.
Grandprix was the first racing sim
Gt7 and iRacing are games , players call it simracing.
iRacing is all about the online racing experience.
I enjoyed it 🤷🏻♂️
Also. I played iRacing 10 or so years ago so it’s not only experience. But I think things have improved a lot since I last raced.
@@Doughtinator What exactly did I get wrong?
100% agree man. 👍🏻👍🏻
Yeah some of the iRacing online stuff can be a bit serious.
GT7 is a great first step into sim racing 👍🏻
