Beautiful guns!
Gran marca y gran Escopeta sea yustapuesta como superpuesta tradicionalistas
No rib, but riblet, fixed chokes let's say 20 bore : 1/2 & 3/4 , those 2- element factors make barrels lively.True shooting pleasure.
...that side by side is just gorgeous...
There was a time that Boss could deliver in 6 days!
Il costo di un fucile del genere.
Grazie
Did anyone notice THE pair of Boss O/U`s at £320k at Game Fair ? 2018. . Heard someone comment "That,s the price of a HOUSE!!"
Now wouldn't one look silly carrying a house in the field? It's believed that if a Parker Invincible were ever to be offered for sale (very highly unlikely), it would likely bring something approaching 2 million.
'regulating' a boss single trigger isn't rocket science, it's just basic mechanics.
Wow to have that kinda money. Ok....I'm not trying to be funny....I'm seriously asking in case anyone can tell me. I am fascinated by this subject. Who is better....Boss? H&H? Purdey? One of the Italian or German companies? Is there a US equivalent? etc etc etc? Or is that like asking who is better Mercedes or Aston Martin....basically just a preference? Also what does an end of season "checkover" cost? BTW I'm not a buyer (way to poor) but am just fascinated in anything where there is still handmade human craftsmanship over robot made mass production.
NJtuber88 I spent a lot of time trying to answer those questions. And if I were building a collection, I would get two side-by-side both 12 gauge - one from Purdey (Beasley action, square, straight grip, two triggers) and Holland and Holland Royal (for their self opening mechanism which is different from Purdey's), one o/u 12 gauge from Boss (single trigger, Prince of Whales grip) - as they are the ones who invented the modern o/u single trigger - and a double barrel rifle from Holland and Holland (or maybe two - one .375HH and one .470). And no other manufacturer can even get close to those three. Remark: I would look for a Boss built between the the WW1 and WW2. If you want to get a good understanding look for books by Donald Dallas about H&H, Purdey and Boss & Co.
By the way, never heard about a necessary check over from Purdey or HH, and I know the guys pretty well. After the season you may return the gun for a polish but don't think many people doe that for the money they may charge. Is the check over unique to Boss because of the trigger? Don't know.
And it is not a matter of preference. There are differences - some may say subtle, but that depends, I think they are very different. Whoever says it's a matter of preference either doesn't know or doesn't want to go into details and prefers to give a simple answer.
IVAN V. Thank you for your detailed answer. I really appreciate it. Like I said, I'm not a buyer, but for other reasons got turned onto this craft, and am amazed and grateful this level of artistry still exists. Again thanks for taking the time to distinguish some of the finer points of this craft.
NJtuber88 You are always welcome. Glad if I made it a little clearer for you. If you want more understanding - check books by Donald Dallas. And if you are in the US - I think there was an H&H shop in NY and one in Dallas, but not sure better check the website. Even if you are not a buyer, go have a look. These gunmakers are a disappearing breed, surviving solely thanks to the rich mother companies (Chanel group for H&H (the owners are hunters) and the Richemont group for Purdeys), not sure they are any profit to the owners. They may not be there anymore in 10 years. And also check the Holt's auction, some old guns are priced reasonably - for a London Best, of course. Take care and good luck! P.S. Feel free to ask any questions, I am passionate about this stuff.
I'm right here in the Boston area...used to be in the NJ area.....both states where I think its only legal for the criminals to own firearms. Next time I'm in NYC I will take a look. Will they allow you in even if its obvious I cant afford it just to admire? Another thing I saw on Utube are some Americans who still try to keep alive the old black powder traditions still making Pennsylvania type rifles. Again, nothing compared to the Purdey, Boss H&H but again still nice to see someone try and keep artistry alive.
from West Canada :
-I had occasion to actually shop for a double-rifle in top-end London .......
I did phone Roy at BOSS ..... [ OMYGODINHEAVEN....did you he was 'chinese'?]
..I wanted a SxS .303 Enfield built on 28g frame .....
Roy told me it was only 200KSterling and 5 years wait .....-and that was just the beginning of a high-adventure.....
Fuck.
.... I ended up with this perfect shooting combination.... from north of Dundee, with a Royal Seal from Charles.
Dickson round-action.
