I tried a £20 George Foreman Grill

- The George Foreman grill (or as I remember it in the 90's the lean mean fat grilling machine) has sort of gone a bit quiet, with things like air fryers getting all the love. However when I found one for £20, I just had to put one to the test!

Left my suggestion. 😊
@mrbarrylewis pancake day is coming up and would make a fantastic episode of will it forman
Also want to add the way you have been doing the videos lately works a treat. Still got the rustic style of shooting but with someone you seem to genuinely bounce off
Never ever EVER cook fish in George!! Your grill will be ruined forever. It's awesome for so many things, JUST NOT FISH!!!!
Have had a Foreman since 1998 bought 2 replacements as my family grew. Use it regularly
In regards to the Hogan story, take that with a truck load of salt.
The Huckster is known to tell a few porkies or five, when given a chance. 🤣
Haha yes, a few people have said this now! Interesting!
I'm curious of the etymology of the term "porkies"...
@@Kevin-zd5biit’s rhyming slang! Porkies from porkie pies = lies
Just reminds me of the CornBaller from Arrested Development
He also claimed to once auditioned to play bass for METALLICA
I don't know what world you live in Barry, but George Foreman grills never went out of fashion 😅 They're brilliant!
Great thing about the George Foreman in this video: you can put it in a suitcase! It's the perfect hotel cooking equipment
Years ago I spent about 120 euros on the Tefal Optigrill XL (on sale) which basically does the same but much better. You can remove the plates to put in the dishwasher, it measures the thickness of whatever you're baking (you can select the type of food before you start) and it shows a coloured light depending on how well it's done. It works REALLY well and now half my family owns the same device because of how easy it is to use. These grills can become almost daily devices if you use them right - you only need a little oil or butter & it's done way faster than in a pan.
My George was half the price of your Tefal, has removable dishwasher safe plate, temperature adjustment and a "grill and melt" function (floating hinge can be locked in upper position).
@@YaaLFH Yeah but it misses the main benefit I mentioned which is why it's called the Optigrill (as in optimal) : the coloured light. You put whatever you want on it, pick the food item, close it and it will tell you when it's at the exact right level of "done". Steaks, paninis, drum sticks, fish, hamburgers, sausages, etc. It's always spot on. I can also replace the plates with waffle plates in seconds to make waffles. I've had several "dumb" grills like the Foreman in the past and I often overcooked stuff or had to cut through chicken or whatever to see if it was done enough - this eliminates the hassle.
I have the very big Foreman that comes with the flat side, like a hotplate. I'm in the UK, and it's my most used appliance.lives on the countertop. So useful for full Scottish breakfasts. Also, pancakes are so good on the flat side, no messing about trying to get a spatula in and under in a frying pan with 'high' sides.
If you take American style bacon and weave it into a mat, you can cook it on a George Forman into a big cool looking bacon chip!
Try it out Barry please!!!
Oh sounds like fun! One for a 'Will it George Foreaman?' perhaps
@@mrbarrylewis perfect!
I usually cook mine in a weave format, but then bake it in the oven. Makes it great for cutting into the perfect size and shape for sandwiches.
Iv had 2 formans over the years, 1st was great, finally everything started to stick to it & was time for a new one. My 2nd had removable plates & was no where near as good as my original, despite being more expensive. It just didn't heat up as well. Anyway that eventually stopped working, and wasn't replaced. This video has made me want a forman all over again! More George Foreman videos please
If the teflon coating is not physically eroded away, put salt on it and heat it up. The salt will go brown and the antiadherent will work again.
Same for any nonstick pan. Cook some table salt on it and discard the salt.
Same hat! The newer ones just weren't the same quality which was really sad. Getting tempted all over again now lol
I love mine. I use it multiple times per week for chicken breast, hot dogs, sausages and burgers.
My trick with frozen pizzas on them (broke student days) was baking sheet on top of the pizza.
Good hack!
I thawed mine before putting them on a panini press, but I used baking paper to keep the cheese from sticking.
This is crazy, I literally bought this exact same one from b&m earlier today!
I know there were people being negative about the last time you had a camera guy so I just want to say loving the videos with tom. I think he makes a really positive addition to your videos!
Absolutely love our George Foreman grill. Use it so often I regret not buying the removable plate one but at the time wasn’t sure how much we would use it so didn’t want to invest. It’s the only way we cook chicken or burgers unless we having a BBQ but even then if it starts to rain or the neighbours being noisy we just look at each other and say “let’s George it instead” 😂
Me and my family had many over the years! Use them most days!😊😊😊
Hulk Hogan had his own grill that was promoted on TV infomercials. It was called "Hulk Hogan's Ultimate Grill". You can still find the infomercials on YT. But I don't know if you can still buy them somewhere. I think he also had other kitchen appliances like a mixer called "Hulk Hogans Thunder Mixer" lol
Barry should definitely NOT buy one as they were recalled for being a fire hazard lmao.
Then he would just feel at home, Barry can make any toasters a fire hazard
I may still have a George Foreman shoved in the back of a cabinet somewhere - it was my main cooking device in the early 90s lol. My sis and I got an apartment and we didn't have a microwave for a long time. All cooking things are advertised as "easy to clean", but, other than the drip tray, the GF met that expectation. I just hated dealing with that drip tray. It's not bad for cooking broccoli, cauliflower, potato slices, but I don't remember how long I did them.
Had one of these at home, and it was great for a few weeks. Eventually, dug it out and brought it with me on site, and it's brilliant, wouldn't be without it.
Sorry Barry the Hulk Hogan thing isn't true. Hogan isn't known for his familiarity with the truth. Some of his lies over the years are wild. Hilarious but wild.
Oh wow! That's interesting, cheers for the info!
Oh man ain't that the truth Dude-Brother-Jack much love HH!!
Love love love a George Forman! Hallumi and med veg on this is BANGING
Oh you mean the bassist for Metallica?
Was Andre not 8ft tall and 600 lbs 😂
If you want to change from Claire Fryer, you could use the Barry Fryer, as in Barry Cryer?
haha amazing yep!
@@mrbarrylewis❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂
I got my George Foreman 5-6 years ago, and I love it. I don’t use it as much since going veggie but it still works great for so much stuff
Great video. Loving the dynamic with Tom. To me has the best of both worlds, your videos you did yourself(which I'm sure was hard work) and a guest to bounce off of. Keep up the awesome work.
Bizarrely you can make the best omelettes on a Foreman. Tip it slightly back when you first pour the egg in, slap the lid down and you know it's ready just by listening from the sizzles as it rises and hits the top plate. Nice and light and fluffy. Comes off totally clean too. A Foreman, a microwave and an air fryer will cover most things in a small kitchen.
Had the Asda version of a George Foreman grill throughout my student years, and it was absolutely bloody wonderful. Loved that thing. Cooked anything and everything on it!
Still have our George Forman. We have had two in our life. A larger one to make more food at once. We love it. Don’t used it as often definitely hangs out in the ack of the cupboard but it’s well loved
We have one of the older larger George Forman grill in the cupboard. It still gets used regularly. One of my favourites is cheese, pickle and sliced tomato on a wrap and folded into a parcel, then in the George for a few minutes. Another one is tuna and chopped boiled egg in thick white sauce in the wrap parcel.
I love that you have helped now but your videos still feel authentically you❤ I know a few months ago that was a problem people had.
I have an original one with the bun warmer on top, i have cooked everything from bacon and sausages to stake and veggies.
Just stumbled upon your channel had to subscribe Thankyou for cheering me up such a great down to earth funny guy daft as a brush ! 🤣🙏🏼
I have this exact same one. Love it. For panini and cooking all my meat. Great for a single lady x. Don’t use oil especially that terrible frylite stuff. It’s already nonstick and that oil will damage it
I loved using the foreman when I lived at parents house. Since I moved out, I find I'm enjoying using the grill pan in the oven just as much. I still do miss that little drip tray
The fact that the captioning has been updated with the egg puns... egg-cellent!
I love my George. I've had 1 since the bun warmer days. I'll still put my bun on the top to warm but the bun warmer was great. It used to have 2 bigger feet to attach before the new fancy drop down stand.
We actually have 2 of them - in 2 sizes (large and small). One of them resides in our beach house in Florida and the other one here in Louisville. Both are currently in the back of our cupboards. We've cooked hamburgers and hotdogs(which tastes amazing) and also grilled vegetables like asparagus, squash, eggplant, etc. Garlic bread comes out great as well.
I remember when they came out. I have wore out 2 and on my 3. Our favorite is grilled cheese.
Oh I bet that's nice in one!
Had a George in a cubby for years never thought about thd egg tho might be easier than doing one in the air fryer.
I have a XL George Forman that got packed up on a kitchen remodel some time back & never got unpacked ( so not really sure where it is) but definitely not looking for it now, I had a problem with my bathroom above my kitchen due to faulty contractor!! And my ceiling came crashing into my kitchen!! So once this remodel is done I am going to pull George back out. I really liked using it. Especially for burgers
My Mom still uses her George Foreman almost daily! Reminded me of my childhood 😅 Love from South Africa 🇿🇦
My neighbors across the street actually put their large GF grill out to the curb in a box with other things they were throwing away. I grabbed it. I don't think they ever used it because it was in meticulous condition. I must be the only one that's never had one. I absolutely love it. I use cooking spray on both sides. When cleaning I just use a cloth. Very easy. I've done chicken, fish, bacon, hamburger and hotdogs. All were perfect. Living in sw Florida, these don't heat up the kitchen at all.
This video made me wistful and nostalgic. I used to make (in my opinion) the BEST grilled 🧀 cheese sandwiches on my sister's George Foreman grill. Gooey, melty cheese, crisp, ridged bread. Nothing escaped, either. Great memories.
I had a George Foreman Grill as my main way to cook for several years. God help you keep it clean!
They're great little machines- we have a smaller one that Salter brought out last year and it's surprisingly useful! And Tom's a great addition to the channel. I know you had some nasty feedback last time you tried to change things up, but hope he sticks around and potentially makes things a bit easier for you 🙂
I love using my George Foreman grill I'm on my 3rd one now over 14 years or so, my first was from a car boot for £3 and it hooked me.
My all time fav thing to cook is my burgers (Aldi German ones) cut in half to get a 4 pronged char for the best flavour oh and toasties
I've had a few over the years, use it most days.
Nice! I like the ones with the different removable plates
@@mrbarrylewis great for hotdogs, will change your life mate.
Wonderful video as always! Never heard of a George Forman grill here in Germany but i´m currently enjoying sausage for dinner out of a Tefal optigrill - bit more advanced but the same concept. And we used it a few times a week for so many different things: sandwich, meat, sausage, vegetables, okonomiyaki , bread, fruit, wraps ... We also have changeable plates for waffels !
Hi Barry. I have a larger Gorge Forman grill with removable grill plates that make cleaning it so much easier. I love cooking frog legs on it (when I can get them) along with a whole lot of other things.
I have the George Foreman grill with the interchangeable inserts that has the 500 degree searing function. I bought it as a demo model for $20 and the inserts I wanted separately. It came with ceramic grills and a nonstick griddle. Works great, need that searing function for steaks.
I’m 22 years old and the only other time I’ve heard of a George Forman was as a child watching Drake and Josh. I refuse to buy an air fryer but now I feel like I need a George Foreman!
The few times I have used a George Foreman grill they have have always been good. My nan still has her one from Donkeys years ago. She does almost all her meat on it. Considering getting my own when I move out my parents house. Can't fault it really.
Great video one of the best I have seen about an item most people have found multiple ways to use it.
i loved my george foreman grill. great little toy. definitely keep it for yourself!
I have the bigger George foreman with the removable plates, I still use it on a weekly basis 😂 still love it 👌
Legit my favourite appliance as a teenager! I cooked everything on ours up until the day it died, parents never replaced it. Was a sad day.
Had one for years that is at least twice the size and cost around £25. Great for grilled cheese sandwiches, mushrooms, smaller steaks (I'd do a proper butcher's steak in a pan) and various other things. Can always be used outside when it's not usual Manchester weather
Honestly I got an xl one about 15 years ago and use it sparingly, however it is an awesome alternative for an outdoor bbq which I have done many times
I have a little one and it is great for just my husband and I for turkey burgers, salmon burgers straight from the freeze. Grilled food any time of year.
We bought one about 10 years ago. We used it quite a bit. Now, we've been using the Toaster Oven and Air Fryer. I think the use of these gadgets are cyclical and depend upon what the Frozen Food section decides to put instructions for on their labels. We rarely used the Air Fryer a few years ago, use it often now.
Will it George Foreman?
•Bangers & mash
•Whole Peeled Bananas
•Fresh-Grated Coconut
•Rice Pudding (I'm thinking of how Koreans love scorched rice)
•Pork Chop with Barbecue Glaze
•Fish & Chips
•Cheesecake
•Shrimp & Grits
•Paella
The gf grill is. Belter I’ve worn 4 out over the years Barry I can recommend the best version I have one that has the standard grill on one side and a flat hot plate next to it it’s fantastic full English brekkie on one machine no faffing about and has heat controls for each side get one I think u will be amazed
I have two. The original small one and an original large one. Still use them both and love them.
Hey Barry, long time watcher. I left a bit of a negative comment a while back about your new format with having a camera person but I’m here with another comment to balance that comment out. The regular interaction with your camera person, Tom, was exactly what was needed. Keep up the good work guys.
I dice pork belly and peppers put them on a skewer and you have an amazing pork kebab in a few mins with a dash of fresh lemon juice it’s amazing and lamb steaks are amazing aswell just cooked perfect 😊😊
If you buy the virable heat control one you can cook the fook slower so it cooks without being under cooked
I have a GFG and a air fryer. I love my GFG and will never give it up.
Hi Barry, I found my George Forman on Amazon UK two weeks ago for 16 pounds and I absolutely love it!
Just getting into the new one and I love it so far. Especially since it's cleanable!
my family have a george foreman and it’s AMAZING
I rather want a nice panini from a local cafe now (but they've closed for the day!), they do some tasty paninis with a decent side-salad, totally unrelated to the video, but the panini moment just got me thinking of them... :P
I'm not in the UK, but we do have an old George Foreman Grill shoved in the back of a cabinet somewhere in our kitchen. XD
Tell me how ive had that geaorge forman for 2 years use it all the time and i didnt know it had legs. OR why the hinge does that..
I had one until recently, used it more to make cheese toasties then any thing else. It was my grandads and my gran gave me it in a clear out, think it was about 22yrs old x
Thank you for the warning. Otherwise, I'd have had a shell of a time trying to get through the video. I often used a friend's George Foreman grill to cook up frozen hamburger patties. Much easier than in a frying pan and the clean up was simple.
My Forman grill is always out! We issue it all the time to make toasties!!
Tom needs to permanently be your right hand man. He's a ripper addition.
I live in New Zealand and I love cooking my bacon in my George Foreman. That one is a lot more fancy than mine.
The amount of egg puns Barry made in that 1min is eggxtreme
I remember my dad having one of those, or something very similar. It had a hotplate on the side for non-grill cooking.
With this one, cooking the personal pizza seemed a little unhinged, but then again you and Stuart did toast a sandwich inside of another sandwich with that fancy Mico toastie maker.
😂😂The Hogan you used "we got reports of a man in fancy dress" " Na he's always dressed like that 😂😂"
I love that they used that photo
I have the original George Foreman and use it often. Makes a great grilled cheese.
I have a larger one of these and use it regularly, great for meats but also for grilled veg
Oh god Cams back! Don’t be sneaky Barry 😂
Cam, you can stay if you grow a beard lol

Love my Foreman grill, had one for years
Already excited for the 'will it George foreman?' video! Love the waffle concept! Wondered if you'd try different types of waffles? I make a few different types to make them healthy as well as fun. Super ripe bananas, spinach, oats, egg and a dash of milk makes a great batter and so does sweet potato or butternut squash (roast or steam before blending with the other ingredients), oats, egg, milk (oat milk is best because it's naturally sweet) and a dash of vanilla extract. Would really love to see you try these and put your own spin on them! My 5 year old and I both love your videos and to see you make waffles the way we do would bring us so much joy!
I've still got the XL one. It was advertised as the garden BBQ alternative 👍
We have one. Use for hamburgers, chicken and other things. It was 20 usd at Walmart. It the best
I have one of the old George foreman’s somewhere my mum used it for nearly everything she always had it on for dinner
We have a large Foreman grill and use it everyday. Love it. (Australia)
I do toasties in mine. Or sausage patties (take skin off sausage and flatten) to make sausage muffins like the McDonald's ones
not quite a george formby grill, but one similar. had it so long ans can't remember when I got it, and use it regularly. never done meat or eggs due to being allergic to them, but potato cakes? omg - it does the best potato cakes!!! 😁
(fyi: whatever mashed potato you have add half that of SR flour. that's it. roll to about an inch thick and grill until golden. best eaten hot with a ton of butter)
GEORGE FORMBY 😂😂😂😂
We use our George Foreman a fair bit, mostly for Cheese toasties, pizza toasties, or cheese wraps
I think it's a great product for dieters or little girls who want to play BBQ but you can't compare it to a propane powered Grill
Thank you for using cooking spray on it. Feel like most UA-camrs don't understand that food sticks or just don't know how to cook lol
I'm in the US, and I love the George Foreman grills I have 2 of them one smaller one from years ago with a top burn warming lid, that's great for burger buns, and I have really big outdoor George Foreman with a domed lit that's great during the warm months cooking out for family doing chicken, burgers, sausages, thinner steaks, etc...
Far as the Hulk Hogan Ultimate Grill the infomercial for it is here on UA-cam, but you won't be able to find one as they were only sold here in the US, for 120v 60Hz, and they were all recalled for being a fired hazzard, and it's rumored it caused at least one major house fire. Yikes!!!
We used to have one when it was the rage, the grill started to develop black burnt on pieces that when you attempted to get them off, the nonstick coating started to come off.
I’m digging my George out, please do more. 😁
You will never believe the time I just had in trying to watch your show and have lunch. I had just finished my lunch and was about to take a sip of coffee when I dropped the coffee mug and it spilled all over the floor and on my stuff.
This video was worth the ruined stuff and floor that now needs to have carpet cleaner. I never mind your humour.
Absolutely love my George Forman
One of the best things we cook on the foreman is kippers.
I miss my George Foreman now😭
I had one of the old school ones with the burger bun warming compartments on the top... Used it for everything 😂 😂
