You're right a balding clipper is a must in your arsenal. I had the first balding clipper which were red & black , then I bought this version what you are reviewing. Now I have a senior modified into a balding clipper. I took the blade and lid and put it on a senior , love it. Wahl intentionally made the curve in the cutting blade to stop the pulling and snagging of the pores. I took that cutting blade off and put a regular cutting blade on because it's the stationary blade that's doing the snagging because of the pointy fine teeth, sand the pointy edge down on the teeth and that should solve the problem. Again I love mine can't go without it..
can you give specific suggestions on the best way to sand the blade down? I would be interested in doing it to my cordless magic clip, which are my "pore pullers"...
+CleanCutz get around 600 grit sandpaper, stand the blade up with the teeth on the sandpaper glide back and forth at an slight angle. Also hit the corners of blade. That will take the fine pointy edge off and make it smooth, that's what you're looking for. This goes for the andis fade blade as well.
So I just bought these clippers cause I decided to go bald and the Skull Shaver was a bust, left my poor head covered in sores, razor shaving is okay but I have to do that every other day if I want to have a head free of razor bumps and irritation. Plus it's so expensive I get three shaves before I have to switch out the blade. I'm hoping this will help me keep my scalp bald. My plan is to use these to take it down and to clean it up with a foil shaver. Hopefully my every other day routine can move to a once a week routine. Thank you for this review and information.
I had these about 10 years ago before I started razor shaves. Do they still pull alot? They hella pulled my hairs that's one of the reasons I stopped but looking to go back if they've improved
@@tortillajackson6007 i zero gapped them so I don’t get pulls. Gives me a very close shave and when i follow it with the foil shaved my head is smooth.

Great review! I'm looking to buy the Balding Clipper. I want to cut my hair down as short as possible without going slick bald. Does the Balding Clippers cut hair closer to the scalp than an electric shaver? I'd really appreciate your opinion. Thanks.
Hey! Thank you for your "straight to the point" review on the Wahl 5 Start Balding Clipper. I am in the military and I often cut my own hair. My limited skilled cut style is simply what I refer to as the "Tennis Ball Head" haircut. As a result of your review, I am purchasing one of these as soon as I log into eBay. By the way, for more than nine years I have gone through several other trimmers (including other Wahl models) but I always wanted a cutter with a stronger motor. Thanks again!
Thanks for the review bro One question When i shave my chest i always get pimples and red skin Do you think this Clipper is also good for getting a clean chest cut to almost zero length?Thats what im looking for...
I’ve been shaving my head for years. I have thick(well used to) coarse hair that even when using a razor and shaving cream you can still see under the skin. Would you recommend the Wahl balding clippers for self use? I have heard people complain about pulling the hair out and knicks from using this clipper.
Hi, just curious if u decided to try the Wahl (or a different product) ? I'm same boat as you...i use a blade, want to try an electric to shave my own head close to bald. Also i have thick full hair like u.
Nice review @cleancutz. Have you had any issues with the blade poking your clients skin? I normally stretch the skin and lay the blade flat on the scalp.
I've been able to use this blade in a taking motion even. But I wouldn't suggest it. Seems like luck of the draw on how the blades come out because I've heard a lot of "pore pulling" issues, but I haven't experienced it even once.
I still own my Whal Balding clippers and they still suck and now finally buying my Oster Clippers, The Whal's blades are chronically misaligned and since don't use the guards I get bitten by the blade and it continually snags the hair! I will be so happy when I am not using these anymore.
Osaka JDM you can definitely use it yourself. The key is keeping the blade parallel to your scalp and move the clipper with the curvature of your scalp. Do not use it perpendicular.

Hey man, check it. I rock a bald head and don't always feel like using a safety razor. I used to use trimmers and I definitely agree with you about burning then out over long time use. Would u recommend these balding clippers or the Wahl 5 star shavers?
You gotta have it down to stubble before the shavers will be truly effective. I suggest you get both for the closest shave. It will leave it razor smooth.

I've yet to zero gap these, but out of the box these honestly aren't that impressive. The trimmer certainly doesn't go right down to the scalp. It's honestly not much of a closer shave than a random pair of philips trimmers I have
good review man, i was gonna buy this clipper but instead i bought the 00000 detachable blade, which cuts about the same length ( i think the balding clipper is supposed to cut a little closer) would you say they would both be about the same?
