There is "Music" and there is "Pink Floyd". They brings you somewhere out of your body! Pink Floyd made me fly for the last 55 years and I've been bless for that!
Lucky enough to have been there and will never forget it. One of my life highlights! - Gilmour is one of the two most emotional guitarists I have ever heard (the other is Andrew Latimer of the band Camel) he can make the guitar cry and the audience as well.
I agree with your comments about David Gilmour’s playing. I saw him two weeks ago tonight in NYC, and afterwards wrote this to my sister: “It was incredible! I can't even tell you how good it was. The sound was so crisp and pristine, something that just doesn't fully translate in recordings, and he has a way of restructuring your soul with every pluck and string bend.”
No effects, just David's voice. In fact that is how he writes his music, He comes up with a tune, obsesses over it a bit and sings along with "la la la" type stuff, and the words come later. In those early days, it was Roger Waters who wrote all the lyrics. But after Roger left, David got his wife, Polly who is herself a novelist, to write all his lyrics since then. She describes it as such - she listens to the music on headphones over and over while walking... and the music is so suggestive, I mean David "speaks" with the guitar and she comes up with the lyrics to match the music. Now one of his children has inherited some of his musical talent. His daughter Romany has an angelic voice and she is featured in several songs on his new solo album out 2 months ago, and for which he just completed a 21 show tour all over Europe and N America. Here is David explaining how she knocked it out in one take: ua-cam.com/video/hCQcKUtg9kc/v-deo.html ( David Gilmour - Between Two Points (Explainer) ) Here is a decent recording of Romany and David with the tour band: ua-cam.com/video/Yv4--p6bAxo/v-deo.html ( David Gilmour with Romany Gilmour - Between Two Points (Later... with Jools Holland) ) Romany recently did a few songs at the open mic night at a local pub, and Dad showed up, and they did Wish You Were Here together: ua-cam.com/video/-jYMraZjPHE/v-deo.html ( VR 360 - Romany & David Gilmour - Wish You Were Here - Open Mic at the Neptune Inn) Not particularly polished, but not bad for a 78 year old bloke unrehearsed and on the spot. Here is a rather lovely photo album of Romany growing up, set to one of David's tunes. She so looks like a young David: ua-cam.com/video/T_gQ_D5yhAE/v-deo.html ( David Gilmour and Romany Gilmour - Kokineli )
I was told that David Gilmour decided he couldn’t be the fastest guitarist but he could be the most efficient and use skill instead of speed. I think he succeeded.
Ah, David Gilmore. The most talented, technical, brilliant, I could go on and on. And an amazing voice to boot. No one comes close. My all time favorite guitarist!
Yep, saw this at Earls Court 1994. Could be this one. I taught myself guitar by playing along to Gilmour solos, rhythm, electric, acoustic, slide… Really nice to learn but VERY hard to master and impossible to get that tone. He’s also a master of string bending, among many countless other things. The work on all parts of Another Brick in the Wall is so good, especially the menacing background rhythm in part 1. He follows the guitar notes with his voice - that’s what you heard. Back in the day, he used the same technique to great effect on their psychedelic rock classics way before Dark Side of the Moon. Those are the Floyd I really like. This song is directly about Syd Barrett, Floyd founder and doomed frontman ❤ But yes, the lyrics are pretty universal, too. That’s what Floyd do best.
Nah, mate, your description of David's playing was spot on. Knew EXACTLY what you were saying. Not the flashiest, fastest player, but gets the most feel out of every note. And that part where he was singing and you thought there was some effect on it was just him singing along to the exact notes he was also playing on the guitar. He did that on a few songs in their repertoire.
David Gilmour is the greatest slow hand guitarist. Rick Beato just posted an interview with Gilmour. Next Saturday, a divine awakening is in order with Awaken by YES. Studio version first, however, Keys To Ascension live version is stunning or the video at the Monterey Jazz Festival, which is miss titled with orchestra. ✨️🎶✨️
The song is about Syd Barrett who was original singer, but was damaged by drugs. The thing is, when the band were recording the album in the studio, Syd turned up but they didn't recognise him at first, because he'd put some weight on and was bald. So Wish You Were Here came true that day.
@@MusicForTheSoulReactions You should see the photos. Syd was so charismatic and handsome at the start 🥲 That this happened only adds to the huge Syd mystique
Great song and great reaction, Steve. There are so many Pink Floyd songs that I'd love to see your reaction to, but the one I can think of first-off is "Dogs" from the studio album Animals. 17-minute epic with Pink Floyd musicianship and Roger Waters lyrics.
I was there ! This is a love song to Syd Barrett and I am a PF bore been obsessed since I was 15 , this was the album after dark side of the moon. Gilmore quote “ I would rather play than fast “
@ the rest of my life was disappointing until I saw Porcupine tree live oh and the bitth of my kids although none of them played a really earth shaking guitar solo unfortunately
Saw them in Toronto in 1987 and again in '92. Fun fact: Pink Floyd accidentally premiered Dark Side Of the Moon in Toronto in 1973, 4 days before the album was released.
Taking me back to my youth and the fantastic music and immense live music of that era Superb mate thanks Steve Comfortable Numb still one of my all time favourite tracks especially live from this concert please check it out n play when u can 👍

Both happy for you and envious at the same time that you were there for this one! What a performance!!

Very articulate and eloquently put thoughts. Pristine and crisp are great descriptions!

Brilliant comment. I didn't know any of that stuff, so thanks for sharing! So cool!!

Couldn't agree more!

Loved this comment
Woke up, put on my Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here sweatpants, and synchronicity!
Haha you got special band sweatpants 🤣

Glad my waffling made sense to someone! Just love watching close ups of Gilmour plucking his strings!!

Awaken is amazing.....!!!! It is stunning !!!
That was just his voice, ( perfect pitch)

That always freaks me out. I know it happened. Yet it is insane either as a cosmic coincidence or something deeper. I’m a massive Barrett fan 😊
Sad story for the song, but then, most creative outlets come from the darkest of places unfortunately
@@MusicForTheSoulReactions You should see the photos. Syd was so charismatic and handsome at the start 🥲

Wow, 17 minutes! I'll pop it on the list to give it a go for you 🙂

Singing along with guitar.
Great reaction! If you get a chance check out 'It's A Long Way There' by the 'Little River Band'. I'think 'they're right up your street.
I'll pop it on the list, thank you for the suggestion
@@MusicForTheSoulReactions No worries.
I had hoped that you would also wish to be here.
Haha I did exactly that!!
Anyone know why Gilmore and Nick Mason no longer work together?
