Mr. Flagler - after (remote) conversing with you at our TU Meeting a couple weeks ago (Central VT TU), I tied a batch of squirrel & herls and had the pleasure of landing several rainbows on the Deerfield today. Down-n-across, but each struck on the strip.
Streamer fly really looks great on the water. Thanks!!
Wanted to say thanks for this pattern. Took it on one of my favorite streams today. The native brookies take offence when this comes through there hole and try to stomp it. Works great
DAM, this learning NEVER ends !! Thanks for all the great vids !!
First of all, thanks as always for the videos. Most tying videos lack your clarity of explanation. These have not only made me a better tier, but have also given me more confidence fishing my flies. I wanted to comment 2 things. One is pine squirrel is quickly becoming my favorite tying material ever (next to pheasant tail). Two: I've been experimenting tying and fishing streamers like this in smaller sizes (10 and down) and the results have been outstanding. Tied this in a size 12 using micro olive pine squirrel strips and added 2 pairs of micro legs in Grizzly/Root Beer. Killing it even on small iced over New England streams this winter.
Tied a couple of these for my annual Montana trip. I wish I tied more. It worked well on the Madison where I only used it in the evening. Then I also used it on the Gallatin on deeper runs in broad daylight and did very well. Thanks much for sharing Tim.
Simplicity that shines! Great fly. I enjoy your channel.
Another simple but great fly tying video,I use a small or fine gold wire to hold my hackle in place, would look great with either a black or gold cone head, tight lines& bent rods.
Great video! Can't wait to tie some up!
Thanks Ernie
Just discovered this. What an awesome fly!
Great looking fly cheers will try this on Irish rivers.
Looks to be a much easier process than a standard bugger. Thanks!
i like to tie a larger version of this with black rabbit zonker strips, a black hackle, and a body made of blue ice dub. sometimes a dubbing loop if i want more flashy movement, sometimes i just straight dub it on like normal dubbing if i want it a little more wooly bugge-ry and less black/blue flashy mess-ish. i also like to finish with 2 strands of rainbow ice dub down each side.
A great looking fly,
Nice pattern. Thanks.
I love this pattern but I use schlappen for the hackle, it works great!
+Tightlinevideo It is a whole lot easier and helpful to use a razor blade for trimming Zonker. The razor blade also helps so there will be a very little Zonker left after you trim it. Great video by the way!!👍
you make some awesome flies! when i gro up i want to be like you!
I like it!
Very nice
Looks real
I think this would be a killer pattern tied in much smaller sizes.
chenille or diamond braid also work well and they don't break off while wrapping it up the shank of the hook.just saying.
great pattern. I like to add a cone head to help get this nasty bug down
Nice video as always! Not sure if this is the correct forum Tim but I would like to submit a formal request for some traditional wet fly videos. Not sure if you fish/tie them much but maybe you could find a blogger/flytier that could be the subject of the video?
What other colors do you like to use on this pattern. Great video!!!
Getting to be time for a new hopper pattern video....what do you think?
long time no see
goin down to da river widacupladeze
Can you substitute rabbit here for hooks size 8 and larger?
I do that. I make them in size 4 for smallies in burnt orange.
smallie heaven you should of named it. cuz it has to $|AY them right
