Den!ed72 the original is BFG DIVISION, Mastermind is the distorted version of it, except the final note, is a reversed of the original Mastermind First note
I totally agree with you Mick, about what you said of video game music. The music is pushed too much to the background and forgotten for most games. I think it's time to bring the music in games back to the foreground and into the action. :)
Man I wish you could do something like this to games like Killing floor. Would be way better with DOOM's kinda music than the soundtrack it has now although it is good in my opinion.
Ahenah fin Most action games could use a tighter soundtrack if you ask me. Well, atleast they could use a soundtrack that you notice and humm or atleast expect to hear more of. Next to Doom and Killer Instinct, I'd say Metal Gear Rising really succeeds at making a soundtrack that fits and is memmorable. :)
some people are moaning about the electronic mix into this soundtrack and saying it should of been all metal. well personally i think it fits perfectly. doom's demons are all about that merging combination of flesh and metal. living tissue with cybernetics. the metal mixed with electronic music brings that classic metal feel from dooms past music with the addition of the cybernetic touch that fits the fast paced action and the cybernetic art direction of the demons.
Remember this song is meant to be blasted on the way to work while your alone in the car... just you... staring foward... making no facial experessions
Lord Vanatos I swear to god I think I've played the first episode of the original Doom at the very least 200 times. Ive even routed it with the GZdoom/zandronum jump and crouch abilities they added in for this insanely fast speedrun. If I put on god mode and can rocket jump, Ive beaten the first episode in like 3 or 4 minutes. This new Doom reminds me of those nights where I would get up at 1 in the morning before school and play Doom1 until 6.
The strains of BFG Division in this song were a deliberate choice. BFG Division is a track that comes along in the game when the Slayer is at the absolute height of his power, fully kitted out and murdering the best hell has to offer. This song comes after the Slayer has dealt Hell an incredible blow, not just ruining its plans to conquer Mars, but stripping it of its fuel source and avenging the fallen Nigh Sentinels. The pounding of the musics simulates you pounding your enemies into the dirt again, and again and again. The Spider Mastermind isn't the best Hell has to offer, its Hell's last, desperate attempt to kill the Slayer in a futile attempt at revenge. In other words, yes this is boss music, but not for the Spider, it's for you.
JDPF14 But... somebody once told me that the BFG fires plasma so hot it expands the water in the target's body so quickly, it literally causes them to explode. Or... something like that. Watch Shoddycast's video on the BFG, he mentions that.
Aurelion Sass in DooM 2016 concept of the BFG 9000 was slightly changed,so it does affect only those beings, that have argent energy within. But I think it's about additional lines from the plasma ball,so I doubt that directly hitting someone non-argent with BFG charge won't boil it's blood
With the music, visuals, guns, glory kills, and other sheeeet DOOM 2016's got, I actually can't play before a doctor's appointment just cause I don't want my doctor to think I'm starting to have heart problems cause this game gets me fired UP so my heart starts pumping.
This piece is very fitting with the boss battle with the Spider Mastermind, because it "sounds like a spider". The notes around 0:42 & 1:08 would go with the pace of a real spider walking if you recorded it. It reminds me in particular of the side-to-side scurrying motions that spiders make in real life. Ultimately this makes the experience of fighting an oversized robot-brain spider much more enjoyable, and ideas like this are why I love music so much.
Also the overall distortion just sells the insanity and corruption you're facing up against. The beat also helps you keep rhythm since the battle has a faster pace.
I love the fact that in DOOM(2016), as you progress through the fight the music becomes even more intense despite being the same music. It's like the music evolves the longer you fight. That detail never let's you get bored with the game. Just love it!
I love the little distorted bass-drop at 1:00, 3:03, and 6:04. That satisfying attention to detail is what makes me love and appreciate this soundtrack so much.
0:42 that sound most certainly cements the fact that all the rage and carnage has led to this final battle, and it's time to put the fear of God into the Mastermind
I saw Gordon's GDC talk on his composition methods; given that BFG Division has guitar and this doesn't, I'd be willing to bet that Mastermind was, at least in part, the prototype for BFG Division.
this distored vertion of bfg division is Kickass, and hellas beat to it, an industrial feel, and the bass that drops so hard, that crushes demons with its very own presence
1:20 this part definitely feels like a moment where the player just wreaks havoc on the boss. Every time I hear this part about to play, I just say, “rain hell”
I know this is going to get push down to the deepest depths of comment section he’ll but I have to ask, with a song like BFG division and mastermind being a remix of BFG division, how did you know that BFG division would be the song people remember and when they go to fight the final boss they would want to play. Is there a deliberate design to the music or was it just your favorite to listen to so you remixed it into the final boss theme PS Thanks for the amazing soundtrack for DOOM 2016 and DOOM ETERNAL
Well BFG Division was meant to be the BFG theme song (or so I think) and it ended up being the Slayer's theme song, plus, the Spider Mastermind in the first Doom game was commonly defeated by a single close range shot of the BFG, and in Doom 2016 the Slayer kills the Mastermind using the BFG (the same weapon Olivia designed). So there's all sorts of little connections between the two songs, though BFG Division becoming so popular probably wasn't intended.
What about "Fucking awesome amazing badass destruction demon killer x2000?" Okay, with all seriousness I think "Molten Metal" suits this kind of music.
Gave this game to my Christian cousin. His mom approves of the game, and he's allowed to play it. What, were you expecting me to say "Now he's athiest?" Pfft. The Doom Slayer spreads the word of the lord

Even though it technically is somewhat of a remix of BFG Division, I still think this is one of the best tracks in the game and definitely complements the boss fight nicely.
