    This is one of my favorite videos you've posted. I didn’t start playing darts until I was 61 years old. I'm 65 now. It's been about 3 and a half years. I'm not the greatest of players (average in the high 50's to low 60's since I had Covid). I was consistently in the mid to high 60's before. But anyway I just did your doubles routine and scored 12 the first round and 14 the second round. Do you think that is decent for where I'm at currently with my darts?

    • @Straightdarts

      Definitely good 👍 it's a much harder activity than It sound because your not giving your self time to adjust your throw, its a different amount of power and elbow height every time. If you can get 13 on average, that's what I'd expect a 60 to 65 average player to be hitting. Suggests to me your game is getting back on track 😃.

    Really needed this video, thank you. Got myself into a right rut to the point where my release is all jacked up. Been so focused trying to replicate my A game, along with constantly changing my stem and flight set-ups that its effecting my throwing. Time for a reset and back to basics I think, Hopefully with not trying to force my 'A' game or 'B' game I will get back to throwing more consistently. Thanks

    Great Video. I never picked up a dart in my life before 18 months ago. I’m 42 and from the USA. I’ve absolutely fell in love with darts and practice everyday but sometimes think I over practice or practice without focus. I’m a 55 avg. and I am definitely struggling with breaking through the 60 barrier. Some days it’s like I never through a dart before but darts just isn’t that popular over here and finding a live opponent is tough. My doubles are shit so I’m gonna try that doubles practice you talked about. Love the content. Thanks and keep the videos coming.

    This is fantastic advice!
    I love that practice game, and I'll be implementing it starting today.
    I'm overall a weak player. But I can score okay if my throw is going well.
    My average is somewhere in the low to mid 40s. But my scoring is probably above 50 up until the point I break 100 left.
    This means, I need to implement as many training games as I can to improve my doubles.
    Hopefully over time, I can figure out a consistent throw, stance, grip that's comfortable for me, and gives me good outcomes.
    I've been stagnant for as long as I've been throwing, always been around the same average. Hoping that with your advice I'll be able to turn my C game into 50+avg, and ideally in another year 60+

    • @Straightdarts
      @Straightdarts  3 роки тому +2

      I practice 1 hour a day 6 days a week. With about half hour just scoring and bullseyes and half hour on double and finishing, but when I have a tournament coming up I'll up it to 2 to 3 hours a day. I don't do this all the time because I find myself practicing mistakes if I practice for more that an hour straight. So even when I am in training for match I give myself a brake every 30 minutes to an hour at most 😀.
      1 to 2 hours a Day is what most professionals put in on an average day 😀

      Remember the better you get the slower progression happens, I can take years to improve past different milestones.
      Keep working on your over all game and consistency, get use to playing at that level under pressure and start to set small goles to improve.
      For example if your hitting 4 big trebles most legs try and make it 5.

    Your story at the end made my jaw drop! I had no idea that was part of your journey. Simply incredible and thanks for the video. I learned late in life that darts is my passion and unfortunately I do not live in country that has darts as part of the culture, it's moreso seen as a gag-game to play at family reunions etc which is sad. Darts has gripped me since I moved into an apartment with an old dart board and I am probably literally obsessed now (and have been for 2 or 3 years). I hand built myself an oche and set up a beautiful darts room complete with about 8 sets of gorgeous darts at varying weights and styles just for fun. I'm learning on UA-cam and practice daily. Just wondering how important the equipment is.
    I used to use 18 grams darts but now I use 23 grams.
    I get a lot of bounce outs and, despite having a strop.of carpet (that doubles as an ockey) the shafts bend. Im guessing that will affect my aim.
    How tatty can the flights get before replacing?
    Is it best to keep everything primo?
    In my town, I cannot find a 90% tungsten set, carbon shafts, or even a razorwire board.
    Its frustrating

    • @Straightdarts
      @Straightdarts  3 роки тому +1

      The thicker the flight the more beat up you can get it without it affecting the playability. I use very cheep thin flights as they fly faster and can be replaced easily. This dose mean as soon as I get a scuff I throw the flight and pop and New one on.
      The equipment is important, with shafts the thickness and length is more important than the material though. Thick shafts like Nylon will travel slower than thin shafts like aluminium.
      Razor wire dose make a huge difference, the trebles and doubles are bigger on these boards and you will also get alot less bounce outs.
      Have you looked on darts corner to see if they will ship to you? They tend to have some of best prices on a huge range or stuff.

    I'm an overall weak player who started playing again after a big break. Back in the past when I played, I never thought about this. But this time I started back on playing, and thinking about strengthening the basic things first. (Stance of my legs, grip on my darts, my throwing arm, follow through) so that I have something to fall back on, when things are not going right. That's the most important thing for me first, I think.
    I currently have some problem with doing the follow through every time and don't know how to overcome this. So this is my first issue to solve.

      No, I mean if your pull the dart or feeling tension when your throwing its best to give your self a 15 minutes rest to relax because you'll never get rid of tension by playing through it. You'll just end up practicing mistakes.
      However if your feel your throw isn't tense but they just aren't going in this dosnt apply. :') it's only when your pulling or snatching and you don't know why. 😃

    I find that no practice routines help me because I can not hit more than three straight shots in a row at best. Usually it's just a toss up between ones and twenties. I believe that my balance is alright, I can throw standing on wobbly air cushions without falling off and I'd like to believe I'm keeping my body still during the throw. Sometimes I'm doing weird things with my wrist but I believe my biggest problem is moving my elbow slightly left or right while throwing. Is there any drill that I can implement to help me pull straight back and push the dart back out again.? I've seen the one where you put a piece of tape down the twenty but it doesnt seem to help me since there is a fundamental flaw in my arm action.

My goal is to become better than I was. Not realistically sure that will ever happen, but WOW has my game improved. I’ve officially thrown 180’s and 171’s with each arm. Twice now I’ve just missed a dead eye. My reasoning for saying this is in hopes that others will read it, and to go along with what you said…. the only one stopping you, is 🫵

I couldn’t miss my doubles, which is really odd LOL, just goes to show what practice and dedication can do. Although it’s only $50, I feel like I just won $5000000 because I’m using my opposite arm, I still can’t get over it 😇
