I think all artists do imagine being a visible success of some kind, not just writers. In fact, a writer knows that by the very nature of their medium, most people wouldn’t recognise even a popular writer if they were sitting next to them in a Starbucks.

I feel that King’s writing lost its magic after he was completely clean: nothing after ‘91 (not even the Tower books) had the spark seen in all that came before.
