In my first month of teaching, one of my students called me the N-word. Immediately, the other students turned to me, apologizing on the boy’s behalf and asking if I was okay. Whatever education empowered those students to recognize the harm in that word and apologize while scolding their peer is the same education many others need to improve their cultural awareness.
Continuing to make excuses for a country with such broad access to technology and knowledge only enables some of its racist tendencies. While criticizing Western influence on some of Korea’s issues, we must also understand that infantilizing the country and failing to address its mistakes perpetuates racial issues. The lack of accountability around racism empowers some Korean shows to engage in blackface and perpetuate harmful stereotypes about Black and African people, often without consequence.
Sam Okyere’s story alone serves as a cautionary tale for those who try to call out these behaviors within Korea and its entertainment industry. Korea is a great country, but we should not shy away from holding it accountable for the harmful stereotypes it continues to perpetuate.

That was very interesting to hear authentic African perspective! I don’t think we get it a lot in the media. This episode will probably get lots of criticism… but people shouldn’t forget how different each person’s cultural background is, and life experience in general. Anyway lots of love from Ukraine 🇺🇦 Love the podcast! ❤

what got me is her saying that Korean men are selfless.... when on the news just a MONTH ago the deepfake chatrooms were exposed and now last week a high school was un-alived by an ajusshi who, after doing that was walking around with a smile in Seoul.... Pick me's are so-----

Saying Koreans were the only ones colonized… when hella Asian countries were colonized by other Asian countries, the United States, and European countries… 🥴

She has an interesting perspective on a lot of things that I enjoyed listening to. But I don't agree with criticizing Korean men's fashion choices. I don't think a mushroom haircut makes someone look less masculine and I personally don't like facial hair. The exact reason why a lot of foreign women prefer Korean men because of their softer cleaner more youthful style. If the lady in the interview doesn't like that that's just her personal preference.

I literally wish every man in the world dressed like Korean men 😂😂 I think it is soooo flattering if you are skinny, esp if you're tall too

Yes the woman in Korea is not have children because all of the pressure of taking care of the home and children and also having the mother in law involved in there life, and the husband not helping with the home. I understand that she believes that Korean a not racist they just need to be educated. I want us to stop making excuses for people because for a country that is so high tech if they want to know about black culture they can learn. So please stop with they don’t know. It is not true that they don’t know.

I did not care much for this guest. While I don’t disagree with everything she said and it is her opinion. I’m not a fan of ppl who like blame everything on the “west” as if they create a country’s laws and culture. I acknowledge the west is not innocent but they are not the source of every problem.

They are literally the most influential culture in the world. Every country has been affected by the west- if you travel to a lot of “non western/romantised countries” you would see it! The west lov s taking credit for the good stuff but have a hard time accepting the negatives. While I agree that they are not responsible for other countries’ decisions, they have been predominantly the most influential culture in the world!

It's never comfortable hearing other people "dissing" the west, is it? It's a hard pill to swallow.
While the West has some pros, it mostly has cons and it is the cons that leave and have left a lasting effect on many societies, cultures, and countries.

That's great that you've only met sweet 아줌마s. I've experienced issues with strangers more than the ones I see daily. Trying to touch my hair or face on the train or just tapping my butt to move me or grabbing my hips and physically moving me. That's not cool. There are quite a lot of women who don't want children and it's not because they are forced to work. Some people want to work and focus on that.
I think the roads in Seoul are the only ones really taken care of. I live in Incheon and the roads and sidewalks are always tore up.

Europe is 44 countries and only 15 are western and 22 are Eastern and conservative. It felt like we should all in Eastern Europe feel responsible too for what western Europe did to Africa listening to this podcast just because we are white too.
I don't know where lady heard that in Russia and Eastern Europe men go dutch lol
Any woman who check out potential partner if guy doesn't pay for at least 3 complete and expensive dates nothing happens. There are some modern women in big cities but they are rare.
Woman sometimes pays for coffee just to show appreciation. Our men are providers and protectors not like western men.

I really enjoyed this conversation speaking from a true Igbo woman of Africa. I live here in American and have lots of Igbo friends from Nigeria. You can tell she did lots of studying on Korea, China, and Africa. I truly believe what she said about women being put into the correct environment, mental and physical, with her needs being meet-having children would be plentiful! Stop the whitenitzationing!

Conspiracy theories or really perspectives you just don't like to hear and that make you feel uncomfortable because they don't align with your own conspiracy theories.... ah...ehem....correction ... your opinions and perspectives.
