Not Chan confusing Asia for being on season 11 lol
I do that all the time 😂 There have been so many seasons of drag race it’s hard to align the queen with their season sometimes
That Shuga Cain impression: ICONIC
you must be new here. hello, welcome
Alexis giving us Myrtle Snow! We have no choice but to stan.
I was just about to comment this
This is the lewk.
The T❗❗❗
"God has built us in a certain way and for drag, we have to defy God." Aunty Chan is literally... Just Golden. Everything she says is golden
It took me toooooo long to realize that the wine was to cover you crotch. First I was like, "Oh, they got a sponsor?" and then I read it and was like. "Wait, that's a weird... ohhhhh"
Haha thanks for pointing this out😆😆
I want to give this comment a thumbs up but there are currently 69 so I'ma leave it that way. 😀
“It’s not a threat it’s a Promise” 😂
Alexis looks *stonneng*, but the redhead curls have also got me wondering if you would ever do a group Hocus Pocus look.
Darby is Bette, Chan is Sarah, and I’m sorry but Alexis is Kathy najimi
@@chaitea3421 why would you be sorry she’s amazing
I’m getting very Myrtle Snow from Alexis in this look and I’m living for it!
@@johomoswitness I mean obviously lol that’s what she’s doing lol
Omg can y’all please do thatt haha
The voguing challenge was for me the worst challenge ever performed, girl you don't learn voguing in 2 hours and the production was expecting them to do great, I imagine Amber Vineyard watching that mess that she tried teaching
I think the problem is producers trying to push the same activities we see in USA drag race onto other countries where those things are not part of their drag culture at all. Drag is different everywhere, why do they always have to copy USA? For exemple, in Thailand most of the girls had daytime jobs and did not lipsync for a living, why make them do that? Like, think of something else lol
Roem said a van came around to each queen to pick up their outfits.
I heard the same thing. Also their Country and Belgium too is so small they could have just driven to location several times to bring their stuff.
Okay. That whole comedy ass GOLD banter about madam madness with all the cowpens and then Darby says butter. I fucking dieeed.
darby matching her eyeshadow turqoise to the necklace turquoise, and the yellow top to the yellow on the necklace. understated professionalism.
I'm not a fan of Meghan's looks generally but imho she DESTROYED Abby in the lip sync. Meghan was selling me all the emotion of that song! I loved every second of her performance.
Abby did okay I thought, but as Morgan McMichaels said it is a lipsync competition not a gymnastics competition haha.
I'm sad to admit, but it took me an entire 29 minutes to realize the wine and glasses are photo shopped in 🤦♂️
Only now reading your comment I notice the bottle reads 'crotch cover wine' and it al makes sense😂
Alexis Myrtle Snow is iconic since the beginning of the video
Fun fact, those celebration, putting nails in bottle, sack running, etc actuallg celebrated in Indonesia too. Now you might be confused why?
Its because the European (Dutch) invade us and in a way, we adopt some of their culture. We usually do those activity in our independence day.
This Myrtle Snow look on Alexis. YAS!
Alexis explaining the "king me!" rule of chess already has me dying. This is gonna be a goooooood one
the light inside of aunty chan is so radiant, i remember how surprising it was when i first heard such a goofy person have such introspective and thoughtful things to say. it was the episode where she spoke on her family’s religious traditions when i first realized this
I understand why people disagree, but I think we really need to start thinking of cultural appropriation as taking traditions from a culture to satirize/malign/wrongly portray them, not simply wearing something for fashion.
Agreed! That’s what I was conveying in my post as well. I’m not Egyptian but I’ve worn their clothes when I’ve traveled there. Just because you wear clothes or style hair that has been popularized in another country doesn’t mean you can’t do it. We have the free will to do it and it’s just self expression and enjoying other cultures. When you’re making fun of another culture that’s different. We also all have some different cultural influences in the things we do - it’s not just coming from the country we’re from. Everything doesn’t have to be offensive lol
@@MrSosurreal Yeah, exactly. To me it's all about whether or not you're misrepresenting something/someone or reinforcing a stereotype. To bring it back to Ma'ma Queen's look, the only way I could see it being offensive is if you look at it in the context of associating the hairstyle with weed. But at the same time, since she's selling it as something high fashion, it in a way elevates both of those things, which imo fights negative stereotypes rather than supports them. Anyway, tl;dr the point is this isn't a black-or-white subject, and we shouldn't treat all cultural exchange as appropriation.
@@baileyduryea3168 Exactly. And even though I'm not from Jamaica - speaking as someone who is mixed with Jamaican I feel like it would have to be much more exaggerative and ridiculous to find this offensive. Mama would have literally had to darken her skin, made impressions of Bob Marley, and had a bunch of stuff on that wasn't authentic to her. When I saw this white guy with dreads in Amsterdam I assumed he played in a rock band or was artistic but I didn't immediately tie it to blackness or stereotypes of Bob Marley etc. I also think they made it seem like she didn't deserve the win because of it - and I love IMHO don't get me wrong but it was definitely a full look even if it wasn't someone's cup of tea. And I agree things aren't so black and white and I get people try to speak up for "people of color" but it also lends itself to again not everyone thinks the same even if they're of the same race and not everything is so offensive. I think she had a good look.
Mama queen's dreads are a reference to a certain type of blonde stoner chick, which we have in Europe for at least the last 40 years, who has no idea where dreads have come from or why it might be inappropriate just that they look cool. Unfortunately satire doesn't always translate.
Sederginne, on the other hand, has no excuse for her yellow face, I've seen video of her performance and it's just cringe.
Chelsea Boy was referencing a traditional sailor's tatoo with that face and wig.
Darby's speech at the end about how you shouldn't just expect people to automatically forgive you for past mistakes just because you've admitted to them was on point. Trust needs to be earned.
"where'd you get yours?... FROM BIRTH" 😂😂😂😂
Aunty, godbless your Suga Cain impression 😂
Thanks Aunty Chan for giving the Marlene Dietrich look that we all deserve 💘
I love everything about Alexis, even the jokes!
Actually animal sounds are often different in different languages !
Dogs for example in French it's "wafwaf"
@41:18 “God has built us in a certain way and for drag, we have to defy God” An ICONIC rule of culture from Chan, add it to the pantheon
Cultural appropriation is a real thing However I’ve donned Asian garb because my grandmother was Chinese and I grew up with very mixed cultural references. My German bloodline might over ride it in my looks but I’ve always embraced my mixed culture. People make assumptions without knowing what our real truth is.
Dreadlocks by themselves aren't cultural appropriation. They were typical in many cultures, including Greek, Polish, Buddhist and Hindu; dreadlocks *with* the marijuana motif is distinctly Rastafarian and much more problematic.
the utilization of dreadlocks and marihuana from rastafarian was taken from "hindú" culture, and are part of a religous vow. Ra
If youre wearing it because its part of your culture and youre not wearing to make fun of it, then that seems pretty irrelevant tbh. Sederginne did a whole performance mocking asian culture.
Darby too busy interrupting to research anything about Holland or learn the hosts name 4 episodes in 😂
Auntie Shuga Chan is a crossover I never knew I needed
9:40 in Indonesia kids do all the stuffs from the mini challenge during our Independence day, we were being colonialized by the Dutch so that's that
I MISSED YALL SO MUCH
Hey ladies, i found you guys through Novympia. ive been binge watching your content for the last month or so and It's been so fun seeing you all grow into your roles on the show. We are heading for another lockdown in London, but this episode felt super cosy and I really needed that. ♡♡♡
Ok so I'm also white so you can absolutely take or leave what I say, but I read on instagram that Mama Queen borrowed that hair from Abby and originally had a different wig as her backup - that makes it feel better to me (again, I'm white, my opinion doesn't really matter) but I obviously get why face value it seemed weird
Oh there's nothing wrong with the dreadlocks. Dreadlocks have a long and varied history with people all over the world.
I'm black i say wear your hair how you want you have black girls walking around with blonde hair bone straight hair and blue contacts
Of course your opinion matters
I think this show is getting race and culture mixed up sometimes by what they say. It seems as though you're making assumptions about someone's culture based on race. This is not always accurate. I have a student who's parents are from Ukraine and Africa, but grew up in New Zealand before coming to America. What you'd probably say is inappropriate for her to wear would actually be very appropriate. I can totally see why some may think that adopting specific hairstyles may cause issues in America, but you should not be judging the rest of the world by the same standards that you have for Americans.
I absolutely agree with you. Obsession with pollitical correctness may blind you from seeing that something like dreadlocks is not actually specific to one culture, and therefore not appropriation. Making that assumption can leave you looking kinda ignorant.
You are totally right but Americans often have difficulty it seems seeing things not from their own angle, background etc so I'm not surprised at all
Yup they're totally placing American ideals and sensitivity into Dutch culture. And Mama Queen isn't the only time I saw them do it. It was done several times. I don't think Americans are the only ones that do this but it comes with not taking other cultures into context and casting a wide net.
@@BonzoVillegas So true and in this case it’s not even accurate. Dreads are actually part of Dutch culture, in our history the men used to do them both in their head hair and in their beards and the women in their head hair. Plus Dutch culture celebrates different cultures as we’ve always been a society based on multiple cultures, so it’s part of our culture to share the different cultures that are part of it.
all three of you look STUNNING, like how is it even possible for y’all to look MORE and MORE gorgeous each episode ?? 💕
IMHO looking like, Chardonnay, White Zinfandel and Syrah
currently rewatching every IMHO from the beginning and I never noticed the crotch cover wine the first time 😂
Chan giving us the Nina Bonina lean back
The whole white person dread thing is an old stoner-hippy stereotype look that started to be seen around the 90s.
popularised in the 90s. Big difference.
Well yes. I should have specified I meant here in the UK
The association of dreadlocks and marihuana is not a stereotype. Both are symbols of the rastafari religión/culture. A Lot of white and black people wears dreadlocks because they like it, and others for culture/religion..
Yeah the world got so sensitive nowadays. And there is a big difference between the US and the Netherlands, we aren't as sensitive here
Yall look gorgeous! Really happy to see the three of you having fun together, but I have to admit I'm already missing all the incredible guests!! Hope we can see yall hang with a bunch of cool artists in the future ♥️
For the dreads talk. It is a look that has been around for hundreds of years. The origins are mixed enough to the world to use as a non offensive hair style for any kinds of people. Buddhists are not being offensive towards Africans. Rastafarians are not being offensive towards Greeks. Indigenous Australians are not being offensive towards Egyptians. This is one that really should be viewed as offensive if specific intent is to offend. The drag queen is wearing dreads because she thinks they are beautiful and thinks she can win with them. Does this look costume? I don't believe so. Your opinions are valid though and we should have these discussions so ignorance gets removed. Still I personally feel it feels more ignorant to automatically shun where it doesn't fit and ill intent and execution didn't warrant.
Every time Darby either flips her hair over her shoulder or
ADJUST THE TOP OF HER DAMN DRESS, take a shot...
are you trying to make me die of alcohol poisoning
😆💯
Darby Lynn Cartwheel 🤸♀️🤸♀️🤸♀️🤸♀️
Lovely mixture of funny and serious. Love these videos
Alexis' Mrytlle Snow fantasy is giving me sooooò much life!
Asia was a different season, Chan😂😂😂
alexis i am obsessed with this look
Alexis: I’m a white person... Darby and Chan: Wait...... WHAT?!😳
Seeking the judge's good grace, she shaved her face then she lost her place, on Drag Race.
i got 23 minutes in before realizing the wine glasses werent real 😂🤣
The hair in this episode is on a whole other level 👏👏👏
I don't see the cultural appropriation in mama queens look
Everyone coming through with the looks ! Chan looks fab, Alexis is gorgeous and Darby is cute as fffffff 😘❤️
Absolutely loving Alexis’s Myrtle Snow inspired look!!!
🔥🔥🔥 BALENCIAGAAAA!!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Stunning times 3
This is silly but I'm happy to see you pass 15k subscribers, first of all because you're awesome and I want all the success for you, second because I have a thing with numbers where if they're not rounded up to be divisible by 5 it drives me nuts. Congratulations!
😆
Hahaha let me help you!
The mini game were traditional children's games that used to be played on kingsday (formerly: queens day) where we celebrate the current kings birthday. There are like 'garage sales' and games and choirs etc all over the country.
Gooise vrouwen= a famous desperate housewives kinda show, but make it dutch. "T gooi" is a place in Holland where those type of people life
I'm so into voguing right now
chan's hair here is stunning
Love these wigsss on all of youuu 😍
i loveeee watching these plz do for ever season of drag race and global lol with all 3 of yall
8 minutes in and alexis is shining like never before
Idk yall manage to balance comedy with serious, important conversations but you do it really well
Yeah, in a US context they do, but braids are a Dutch thing. Dreads, OK, I get that. But really, braids?
I had to pause and digest Aunty Chan's intro. Love.
Alexis as Myrtle is *EVERYTHANG!!!!!!!!!*
the way i only realized the wine bottle and glasses overlay past the halfway mark
There may be some recency bias but Chelsea’s runway in episode 3 might be my favorite runway of all times. She executed it FLAWLESSLY. Honestly jaw dropping. And I tried to re-watch the dance sequence just now three times and I still don't know what's happening or who was good/bad
Alexis P for Perfect Bevels
Alexis is giving me very BALENCIAGAAAAAAAAAAAA
Alexis your hair has never looked better
I'm delighted to hear Shuga Cain again
I'm from Belgium (close to The Netherlands), and the nail-shitting game is actually real. I have done it more times than I'd like to admit.
vrouwen means women btw ;)
I’m not sure how I got here but I’m staying and subscribing for the Mrytle Snow look alone plus the fact you support wonderful causes with your platform
I love how Aunty Chan just combined two seasons so flawlessly and nobody corrected her LMAO 16:20
I started drinking coffee again because of Aunty Chan's mug
Watching Darby’s ring get stuck in her hair... fall into her dress.. and go back on her finger over and over. Physical comedy queen.
I knew as soon as I saw the thumbnail Alexis was giving us Myrtle Snow! That hair is Great! So FIERCE!
Ill be watching the digital drag tonight at 7
hey gals! idk if you read the comments but the about tab on your youtube page still says d**ie. just letting you know so you can update it 🤍
the wig that mama wore was actually from envy, she talks bout it in a instagram post. i think the original look was with a long curly redish hair
I mean she still wore it..
Still wasn't a problem. Dreads aren't limited to one culture, and mariuana IS a big part of Dutch culture so it made perfect sense for them to wear that. It's a little bit ironic when Americans start to culture police other cultures.
@@andreweirthug2588 @andrew eirthug Abby as a brazilian person with Áfrican heritage has the same right to say a friend that she feel ok that a white uses locks, as a african-"american" to say a friend that he does not thinks it is ok that a white person wears dreads. For me as a mixed non-american person, locks are never cultural apropiation. In any case, I would think about it if MY AFRICAN or african-descent friends say me something about it, but they feels like Abby, not like darby's afro-"american" friends.. I act according to the feelings of my people in my non-highly segregated country and culture, not according to what Darby's friend thinks in one of the most segregated countries in the world.
“...from birth” ☠️☠️☠️
Hm no offense but that should have been a two hour review !! Love you guys and alexi’s look damn werk slay
Is a patreon merch store something you pay to get access to more things you can pay ?
Yes it's like if you had to pay to get into Target or Walmart.
Chan’s look at 11:01 is me at work EVERY. DAMN. DAY.
1:27 not them mixing up different seasons 😅😅 love you moms
06:35 Nick Van Patten kills me every time
I loooooove this hair on Alexis
Apparently it was Patty’s birthday the episode she was eliminated too! I wonder why she didn’t get a cake? Or maybe she did but they didn’t show it?
Love yall
It's the png wine glasses for me
I love love LOVE y'all, too!!!!
alexis' 'can i tell you? no!' will live in my brain forever, tossing around like a tumbleweed in the sonoran desert, not a care in the world.
No one has EVER looked as good as Alexis looks here.
crotch cover wine lmfao
I love you gals and this show, but I don't think ill informed speeches about cultural appropriation in Europe serves you well.
White Europeans have worn braids and dreads/plaits for centuries.
Holland is well known for their cafes and marijuana culture. Mama Queen is well within her rights to portray that.
I wouldn’t call it ill informed, it’s mostly due to a different cultural background. Due to the Netherlands’ past as both a center for colonial commerce (Dutch East India Company, anyone?!) and as an extension of several colonial powers, I think we can safely say that cultural appropriation is a topic we Europeans must have as well.
I would agree that dreadlocks by themselves aren’t necessarily cultural appropriation...but the 90s Western Rastafarian fashion is absolutely appropriation without context.
And that doesn’t even go into the problematic background of Rastafarian culture itself.
Will we ever get to see Alexis on the intro animation?
When I think about dreads I don't necessarily think about black culture, I immediately think about the white stoner / hipster stereotype. Sometimes one thing can be incorporated in two different cultures.
Thats interesting because that comes from emulating Bob Marley who is...
@@yasmingoldberg596 you're right, and it's a perfect example of culture hybridation. Cultures have always been processes of hybridation and assimilation, and shouldnt be considered as a list of private possessions. Honestly, the whole debate about cultural appropriation is just the mirror of the problems of American society, and shouldnt be generalized.
Plus, it doesn't only belong to a single culture. Not to mention, they don't know these peoples backgrounds or cultures. They're just making assumptions and that's not always accurate.
@@yasmingoldberg596 rastafarian and jamaican
@@francesco2102 exactly, in fact this mamma specific dreadlocks hair style is from the jamaican rastafarian culture. And this culture is a hibridation of múltiple cultures, mainly from Ethiopía and Hindu..did the original rastafarian do cultural apropiation of Hindu culture?
Alexis B bevels and the b stands for BAD ASS BITCH cause she's got a whole plan! Vote for thr lesser evil and dismantle the system later like the mother of dragons baby! Yessss.
Well girls, you’ve done it again. I’d say I’m surprised, but I’ve seen your work before......
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Where can I buy a bottle of that Crotch Cover wine?
