Every tree house needs a hammock! Maybe a few of those for lounging outside?!

Love the dark western look for outside. Maybe do a mix of light and dark on inside. Instead of cows, maybe do a buffalo theme. And there MUST be a rope swing somewhere! How fun that would be! ❤

I like the darker natural wood look on the outside. It's Utah and the structure will not be in trees. If it is white, it's going to stand out like a look-out tower which will glisten and glow quite brightly in the desert. The natural darker color will look more like a tree house setting and blend into the desert. Anyway, that's how I see it. But, whatever choice wins, I know you'll do a fantastic job!

I prefer the wood exterior with a copper hued stain. It would suit the landscape and not stain from the red sand as easily. For the interior, I love the Native American art with the teal, copper and tan colours. Because these are rentals, I would probably use a light tan on the walls so it wouldn’t show marks as easily as a white or cream. What an exciting project ❤

Natalee!! I LOVE all of your ideas so much!!! I like the boho western.
I would also consider tying in more of the “country & western” and “industrial” vibes. Think Marlboro ranch. Black cast iron & wood. Acoustic guitars. Cattle drives. Buffalo art. Cowboy hats. Cowboy boots. Lassos. Cowboys. Old western feels. Saloons. Etc. Items that would mesh with the general store & Buffalo theme. I love the animal hides, antlers & cactuses. Maybe some coyotes, coyotes howling at the moon, b&w Buffalo wall art, Native American items, horses, industrial “cast iron pipe” shelves. Galvanized metals.

From what I’ve learned recently, you need to be sympathetic to the indigenous people that live/ lived in the area, not a generic- thus offensive design. I’m not knowledgeable about that area so I highly recommend research. With a meeting background, I recommend options for groups and their specific needs. Be specific in the size of groups and how to target that profitable segment of hospitality! I see so much potential & profitability!
    Best wishes!

I like the cedar for a more natural look for the outside. I do like the black roof options. And I like the lighter scheme for inside. The dark just looks a little too heavy. How fun for you, NataLee!

Rough sawn board and batton for the outside left natural like they would have had in the bygone era. Inside the couples cabin, sanded live edge cut boards with white 'mortar' to look like a log cabin. Won't the black rooves be heat absorbing making them harder to keep cool in the warm months? In the family cabin, still going with the rough sawn board and batton but on the inside make it look like a kids fort with found items. Miss matched cobbled bunk beds, drawers from a dresser attached to a wall for a dresser etc. Thinking like a kid in a junk yard! My Little Homestead cut a Mesquite tree to fit into their kitchen/dinning room. It was a dead tree but it goes from floor to ceiling and looks stunning!

I like the wooden outside. It looks more like a tree house. As for the interior I think all black walls is too dark. I think you could combine the two ideas and maybe have white or off white walls with some black accent walls or black accents as in lighting, black doors, etc.

Like the idea for the Dark Western Boho theme, but with the lighter interior walls, maybe in a lighter grey instead of a lot of white. Like the tans you chose and the greens to bring in the tree house theme.

As soon as you said tree house I pictured cedar shake siding!! Love the more natural wood look for the outside with the tree branch railing but definitely the light and bright for the inside!! If I could ever afford to take a trip with my kids and walked into our room with dark walls I would be absolutely devastated. Dark walls bring a dark mood. Please please please stay away from dark walls🙏 Love the cowboy boot planter wall!!

Cedar shakes exterior with dark roof. Dark boho colors inside for accents but lighter walls. The cowboy on a horse picture ties in with the covered wagon cabins at the resort. So cows, cowboys, cactus, etc.. Not too rustic inside. Twig railing on deck was a little too twiggy. Maybe branch posts with horizontal wire for railing, so you could see buffalo.

I was 6 years old when my family took a trip to South Dakota. We stayed at a resort with teepees and buffalo were roaming around. That was 46 years ago and an indelible memory.
I can’t wait to take my family and baby grands to this place when we’ve moved back to AZ.
I love your design options, dark and moody is my vote. I guess when I heard treehouse and saw the area I thought of a round house type of design. The hard angles if the houses collide with the wind worn rock of the area. I’m intrigues to see the end product.
If there is a large deck area, what about one of those webbing type areas over the buffalo?

First this video made me so home sick, I just moved to Indiana from southern utah 2 weeks ago.
As someone that had been to Zion and lived with the southern Utah red dirt. White bright is beautiful it is what I prefer. But longevity and staying cleaner and nicer the dark western boho is going to be better. What if you used more of a cedar wood colors. Because those trees are native.
Both look amazing!!!! Thanks for sharing this.

Hi Natalie. Love your vision. Commenting from Utah. Love the setting of course, I would highlight the buffalo instead of “cow” pictures ect… buffalo rugs, buffalo skulls, also incorporate more of the history of the area to tell the story. I know this is for more of a tourist attraction but I always look for authenticity. Best wishes and continued good health 🥰🥰🥰

IF there is a possibility of using misters outside, keep that in mind when combining red dust on a light color outside and then adding water from the misters or even rain. Ick..mud!
I love the design of the Southwestern look (don't forget the Buffalo prints to tie in and horse prints!)
Just remember, everything has to stand up to hard use by families with kids!
I love Zion and Bryce; we've had some very happy memories there over the years.

I vote for the darker version with more wood on the exterior. But I think it would be cool that on some of the walls inside make it look like the mountains in the area. Kinda accent walls, and have a skull on that wall. And keep the other walls a bit lighter.

One of my favorite things is lanterns! SO maybe some lanterns outside on a deck. Perhaps there removable can hang or be place on a deck table. . Maybe some Lanterns inside too, hanging from the tree. A swing inside hanging from the tree . So you can swing indoors.
    😁
    Hope this helps!

That said, I mean that I like the brighter, lighter look inside. I prefer the darker exteriors, as they won’t stand out too brightly against that dark orange clay backdrop. I also think they won’t look dirty soon after they are completed. On your initial video, it was extremely windy!-I can only imagine what a white/bright exterior would look in that wind storm…

I love the dark boho! I think for the interior, it looks richer and more unigue. I like both exteriors, but I think the white would be very hard to keep looking top notch. I like both the wood & shingles exteriors. I don't like the twigs on the railing & not sure it would be safe? I would go with dark cables with wood for safety & visibility. So fun!

  • @catherinemoore4413

Wow! I liked the wood exterior for the setting but the interior of the light and bright with the cooper and light teal. Not sure about the black roof as a desert option. Black absorbs heat, not good but metal roofs come in a variety of colors. White interior gives an adobe fibe and definitely wood on the ceiling if only in rough beams. Love all the cooper colored leather sectionals, antlers, desert art and cactus for a more southwestern look. The original plan showed the entry at ground level which is a must for handicap friendly entrance. Also a bedroom and bath on the main level and decks on both levels. This is going to be so much fun to watch as the plans evolve! Exciting!

I am beyond thrilled for you and all the blessings you have received lately with your new house, new power tool launched and now helping design a resort! I love both designs but I think the darker exterior would fit best with a tree house vibe. I am in Ohio right in the Hocking Hills area and there are a couple of tree house/cabins that people rent. One of the cool features is a rope bridge the guests have to cross to get to the tree house. One other thing they have done is hang lanterns in the tree line to kinda resemble lightening bugs. They use big water troughs for outdoor hot tubs etc. check out the Hocking Hills and the cabins there.I like the boho look because it fits the theme the best.

But there’s nothing stopping you using both.
For the family (3 bed ) treehouses the bright modern SW boho look might be more appealing and work better with the smaller rooms.
Whereas for the couples ( 1 bed ) ones the dark scheme could make for a cosier more romantic feel. Plus would work great with the larger more open plan space.

I like a combination of both styles but really go for light and bright colors mostly. I have done cactus's cut out of 12x2 pine boards and put holes all over to insert little lights leaving the cords exposed and at Christmas time changing out the lights from white to green and red. Also I love the leather pillows and have always wanted my husband to do leather carved centers or the envelope style pillow with the flap being carved leather. And I really love the boot planters that would be so unique. You're going to have fun doing this ENJOY.

I defiantly like the darker boho. Seems like it would feel “at home” with the surroundings. What an adventure for you😄

    Wow, what a special project!
As for the idea of a place where many families will visit and stay, (although the boho theme is my personal favorite), a bright and easier to SEE if its CLEAN scheme, is better in my view. Also, photos of the project in the different stages of build and finish would be great for visitors to see what it took to bring the project to fruition. AND, photos of the critters highlighted in that camp, would be great too ☺️

Dark Western Boho with the Darker exterior gets my vote. I know that you will hit this out of the park for him.

Since the dirt is red out there, what about if we painted maybe a terra-cotta color so if it the wind blew this red dirt against it, it kind of blend in more and it wouldn’t look as dirty looking, with white/off white cream family

I would like to see a chair or a bench that looks like a bronco. Kiddos would love it.

I like the dark western with the light walls. I love the western art and the animal prints. That just says American Southwest to me.

This is amazing news! I’m excited to watch this process. I love the color brown on the outside with a Boho style. Lite, medium and darks colors are beautiful. I love the adobe style for this area. Whatever you do it will be fabulous and beautiful. 😊
My oldest son lives near Salt Lake City. I will share this with him. 👏🏻👏🏻❤️❤️
