When I was a young man, one of my 1st jobs was a tire tech... And I was taught this same method to avoid counter-balancing. I was told if you perform an incorrect counter balance.... You are just fooling the machine and it is not a "true balance". I watch the tech when my tires are serviced and if I find counter balancing performed, i know my business goes elsewhere!
Great video and good advice throughout video. A lot of people don't take advantage of people willing to spare knowledge. Out of over 100 videos I've watched about tire balancing this is only one I've seen this tip. I look forward to watching more of your videos
Hello mate just watched a video about balancing tires...I bought 4 brand new tires and no one can seems to get it right. .while driving on highway for a few moments there is no vibration but moments later vibration return, I don't have anyone that is willing to take time to resolve it...so far they tell me I have bad tires any suggestions and where are you located
All ya gotta do is use your brain my local ram dealership counter balances like they have stock in lead. Rims that have been good to me and not really ever needed much take to the dealership and each rim is some how holding 20 oz of lead
I was the tyre fitter for over 20 years counterbalancing is a big no-no you might as well not put wheel weights on the wheel at all because counterbalancing does not work where you had 10 grams out on the outside you could have just move those weights ever so slightly bringing them back up near the 12 position and you would have fixed at 10 grams sometimes if the wheel is too far out of balance and needs a lot of weight you will break the bead and turn the tire 180° and then refit the wheel to the balancer and you will find most of the time it won't need so much
Hi, can you make a video on this machine. Topic: how to you use Alu S mode om 20inch 10.5j rim. :-) because l cant ! :-) i have same machine in my home garage.
Most likely use a new one, if you place the stick on weight very lightly then it should be ok, if it is pressed on properly it will lose the stickiness on removal 👍
Is it normal if a mechanic puts the tire on the balance machine with the old weights still on the wheel? Should they remove the old weights before doing this?
It can be done for an initial check, on odd occasions it can turn out to be already balanced, but if it is out of balance then you would not counter balance or just add weight on top.
You could get them static balanced and have the weights at the back, differing opinions on static vs dynamic balance of wheels so I will just say this. If you get the static balance and you drive the vehicle with no vibration or issues then it is a success and you will have the look you want with the wheels balanced.
Yes it is, general rule in tyre shops is bang on weights for steel rims, stick on weights for alloys. Only fancy rims or customer request does this tend to differ. I usually gauge it by where the weights were previously, so if i get a rim like that with weights on the outer I will also put the new weights on the outer. I hope this helps.
Question for you. When you are balancing a fancy rim do you still add weights to the outside where they can be seen? I have noticed with some of the newer balancers that they can do it all from the inside rim and the center of the rim to avoid unsightly weights on the streetside.
Use duct tape first, but make sure the wheel rim is cleaned first or else it can fly off. Once balancing is finished, peel up one side of the duct tape so that the weight can be flipped up, but still attacthed to the wheel rim on the other side of the weight/tape, peel off the stick-on and do the final attachement of the weight. Then remove the duct tape. Hope that makes sense.
Right... now take this 0.0 wheel of the machine. Put it back on with different position agains the machine. And it should show you some weight to add both sides. Why is like that?
Thank you! This is the only video that I have found on UA-cam that has taught me how to balance a tire without counter balancing.
Thanks for making this. I’m a lot better at balancing because of this video. It takes longer but is always worth it. Never had a vibration yet!
I appreciate the kinds words. Thank you

I love your work ethics young man.....nice one.
Fantastic informative video sir thank you.
👌👍🙏
Thanks a bunch! Very good info and video!
Every day is a learning day. Another good video.
Hi you would have worked on a few Holdens in Australia.
Thanks very much, With an open mind it sure is.
Yes lots of Holden's HSV's & Fords. Some amazing machines & they love motors over there.

If a rim can only use stick on weights and I need to move the weight to balance the tire, can I reuse the weight or do I need to use another one?
Most likely use a new one, if you place the stick on weight very lightly then it should be ok, if it is pressed on properly it will lose the stickiness on removal 👍
You can use a quality 2 sided foam mounting tape ie. 3M.
to remount used stick on weights.

I ordered some custom ferrada wheels and tires online, can i move the stick on weights toward the back of the wheel for a cleaner look?

Woow! Great 💯💯💯💯
Is it possible to just put the balancers on the back of the rim?-- think they look untidy on the front particularly on nice rims.

There are weights that use an adhesive backside so that your rims don't get the chrome ruined from having unsightly weights hammered onto them.
And to line up with spokes sometimes you can split the weight and place behind spokes "sometimes"
Awesome
How would you do it with stick on weights

One of my favorite tricks. I hate when my guys counter balance
That's happens to me
Buy a heater.
Telling me about balancing tires while using a balancer from the 80s.😂 Yeah ok
That noise at the start is extremely bad news, enough to put one off the vid.
