I run the largest karaoke company in South Florida and I can tell you this is probably the most professional set up and execution of most KJs. Our entire business model is very similar to your set up, thank you for this video
Thanks John! This video is so old though lol. My setup and equipment today resembles nothing in this video. I think I made that video around 10 years ago lol. Everything has changed.
@@anubiscomplex Yes. I am a full time DJ. I only have one karaoke show that I do every week. Been there every Tuesday for the last 9 years. I use Karma Karaoke software for karaoke. I love it!
Hi Vince, I'm here in the UK spending many hours trawling through karaoke setup videos, I've watched literally dozens and your video and your personal presentation of it is by far the best I've seen. You make it really easy to understand and your presentation was littered with great advice. I've no doubt that you put on a great karaoke show too. Many thanks. Bob Hayes
Thanx Vince ! That presentation was easy to follow and very informative ! I appreciate the time and effort that you used to make this video. I believe that you make a pretty good living doing what obviously enjoy doing ! Good for you ! If I lived near you. I would definitely come to your karaoke shows ! Keep doing what you do ! And thanx again !
Thanks Scott! I only do one weekly karaoke show at the moment as I have been slowly getting out of the karaoke business. I am a full time DJ now. That pays all my bills.
i just bought my granchildren a karaoke machine, this video is very profession and well put together thank you gives one an insight into the karaoke world.
Wow! what a professional you appear to be. I was looking to just try and do some karaoke for our own house party but now I see just how involved it is and how organised you are, I give up. What a great promotion for your business: I'd book you! Thanks for your brilliant presentation.
I started out with this kind of set up 15 years ago. So I can appreciate your video . Things have changed and tech is better now, I've consolidated everything I could. Two terabyte sold state drive, w/32 gigs ram, blue tooth mixer with effects and powered speakers. A good DJ studio program and buy download songs on the fly. Video mp4, karaoke files, mp3.
Looking into breaking into KJ work myself. It's fascinating how, in such a short time, tech has evolved/simplified how it has. Just the same, there's still valuable info to be had from people like you, who've been in the industry for a while. I appreciate this video
Vince, Your a great presenter of the basic steps, I'm changing careers at the age of 50 and this has become a passion, I'm a music lover and Singer so this new career I'm seeking is exciting... Thanks 😁🎤🎤🎵
THANKS Vince, wot a great open eyes on this matter, i always thought that Dj was only party and fun but after see this tutorial there are so much stufs involved.
Very well presented Vince you know your stuff have fun I use to spin record many years back. That was when we used real records. Cool Beans when disco was hot.
Greetings from New York! Overall, KJ-ing is an underrated profession and, to this day, the best job I've had. I hosted karaoke nights at a dive bar from 2017-2021 as a side job, but the setup wasn't as professional. Then in June 2022, I was hired by a popular NYC karaoke company. I started working one venue a week. I was already comfortable singing, hyping the crowd up, and choosing filler music, but live audio mixing was my weakness so I've been trying to learn as much about it as possible. I still have a long way to go there, but I've improved. I've now reached a point where it's my main job and I host at four venues a week. Going into my second year at the company, I currently have the most venue residencies out of all the KJs, and I'd like to think it's because of how much I've grown and my devotion to the job. Every aspiring KJ needs to watch this. It's a perfect introduction. Also, your other videos have inspired me to consider general DJ-ing in the future. Keep sharing your passion with the world!
Sorry to hear u got deleted. This is one of the best Karaoke Setup videos on YT .I bought a ACESONIC DGX-210 KARAOKE MACHINE .It records and converts cdg's w/ sd and usb ports off ebay. I think it's a fantastic addition to my system and I just wanted to pass the info on to u.Thxs again for posting this video_ I re-subscribed
Wow impressed you actually adjust for each singer. Most kjs dont even bother here in Dallas! I'm a vocalist so you better believe I am constantly adjusting for my singers. Oh and newbies buy quality speakers and sound board better investment on long run. Great tutorial.
Vince... Nice work man... I like your setup...and your experience phrase "do it so that it looks professional"... You are like a pro....add some more of your experience.... We are eagerly following... Cheers !
I love this tutorial😍it is by far the best compared to the others😄the whole presentation was great, the way you used the filler music and everything is what i really wanted to see. It was good.
Great video, thank you Vince. The next perhaps is the introduction of the audio system...how to connect your mixer to the receiver, to the speakers and what you would recommend as a professional KJ.
Thanks DJ/KJ. I have been a KJ for many years and it's the first time i've seen the fade in, fade out of the filler music. I am going to do that! that is more professional. And it is an immense amount of work to KJ!
+Casey Mcfann Yeah, I really didn't know a lot of kjs did not fade their filler music in and out until I started going out to other shows. I think the most common reason why they don't is because they are not set up with a way to do it smoothly. That's why I always have my dj controller with me when doing karaoke. It gives me way more control over the filler music.

Oh how I remember the days lol.... been doing karaoke over 22 years! I’m 62 years young! Have come back around to the basics with the help of laptop and virtual do software and yes I’ve gone through many mics
Hi Vince. I used to do Karaoke old school. Would like to try the computer thing. I have the speakers, monitor, mixer and tv's. Just need to know where you get your songs and what program do you use to print your books that will print list of your songs? I have discs, the books for those discs (my books were done for me by a friend who has since passed). So what kind of a computer do you have? I can't buy NEW but could probably get one sufficient to do the job if I had some guidelines. Also, How many songs do you offer? And when you get new songs, where do you get them from? Is this all online....? I am so confused! Sorry about all the questions! 1. Where do you get your songs 2. Program used to print books? 3. Computer specs needed? 4. How many songs do you have available (just curious) Thank you for any help with this. I appreciate your taking the time to make this video. Hello Vince, could do a video on the sound set up for sax & dotty using the Hercules Rmx? I just got the Sax & Dotty but it uses winamp, and I don't know how to configure the sound set internally for Hercules. If you don't have time for a video, some written instructions could help. Thanks in advance.
In our area, dual monitors for lyrics is normal. One smaller monitor on stand for the performer, and the same feed sent to one of the wall TV's for the crowd. Be prepared to display video in HDMI with an HDMI slitter as well as composite video if you travel with the show. In a pinch a video projector can be useful to project the lyrics on the wall behind the singer. Adding some wall wash lights with DMX is a nice touch in some places. The mixer should have a minimum of 3 mic inputs. The KJ should have a mic to announce singers, and work the crowd. 2 mics for the singers for duets or if one goes out in a show. It happens. Mixer should have at least 2 music inputs. Playing filler during a software crash prevents dead time as you can play from a phone. Yes, software does crash. One show had a delayed start of 20 minutes due to a mandatory Windows update. Yes it happens, and more often with this type of show as the computer is often not on and getting updates before the show so a forced update when it is turned on can be a serious problem. I think MS has gotten better with the issue of forced updates and scheduling, but still no guarantees. A spare laptop if you can afford one ready to roll is not a bad idea either. I'm guessing you are just getting started as your song list is quite short. Haven't seen a songbook so thin in ages.
I am not very familiar with that numark mixer so I don't know if it has exactly what you need. Basically, you need a mixer that can give you separate eq and volume control for each vocal mic that you use, plus a way to add some effects (reverb or delay or both). The Show Presenter software (which I no longer use) is a download because the company is overseas. I use Karma karaoke software now.
Hi Vince. I enjoyed the video and thought it was very informative for any one wanting to get started in becoming a KJ. I on the other hand am a little too old to do something like that. I do love to sing thou and do so at home a lot. For just parties around the house, like pool parties, and just keeping yourself entertained, what's your thoughts on a good home system to setup?
Hi Vince. Awesome video! Could you upload a video on how to get filler music to play. Or explain it to us please. Also, where can I upload music for the software? Thanks
This video has helped me alot. What Software & Hard Drive do you use to load up all your CDGs into so that you can play them independant of an internet connection. Microsoft or Apple ?? Thanx, BeeBopBob
HI AWESOME VIDEO we also make the same song books but we use a soft back folder and cut holes for each hole in the wallet and then use zip ties completely indestructable!!
I have a few questions about this. First of all, can you really make money at this? If so what is a ballpark figure for a normal night of KJing? Also, where should I look for the songs? I'm planning a party for tomorrow and I'm supposed to have karaoke there. For now I might end up just using UA-cam Karaoke videos, but I really like the looks of the setup you have.
Awesome video! I've been thinking of doing this as well to get extra $$ to pay off my house. I've only been doing this for my friends for free and I have the sound system but not the Karaoke system. We only play youtube and I plug in my iphone as they hold it and sing. You gave me great tips bro. With that said my questions are, when you buy the software, does it come with all the songs or do I need to buy each one? If so, from where? Again, great job on this video.
Great review. I totally agree with the keep it professional. A lot of KJ's where I'm at just set the mics flat and never use filler music. I guess that's why I gig three times a week :). I have to agree with Dee Dee, quality speakers and mixing board are a must. You can tell as you enter a venue if someone is using a sound system package (Speakers, power amp, mixer, cables. mics ect) they bought for 500 - 600 dollars because everything sounds thin, brittle and lifeless when it should sound full, solid and alive.
Yep. I agree with EVERYTHING you said... and like you, that's why I work all during the week as well. :) I am now using a PreSonus 16.0.2 digital mixing console for my karaoke setup. My singers can't get enough of the rich, lush sound I give them. Giving your singers good quality sound will keep them coming back again and again.
Hi there! I actually use Karma software for karaoke these days. I stopped using Sax and Dotty's software many years ago, but I believe it is still available if you want to purchase it. Just do a search on the internet. Getting new karaoke songs is always a challenge. There are several karaoke track downloading sites you can use. buy karaoke downloads dot com is one of them. Good luck!
LOL. I'm considering learning a little and possibly doing this. A karaoke DJ has been training me a little when I get out. But here are my favorite quotes from your video which is cracking me up. -"So, you think you wanna a karaoke jockey or a KJ. Heheheh." -"These are karaoke singers. which are not really singers" Here's two questions I have for you. -Where do you download your karaoke songs from? -What is a ballpark base level cost of a decent system (laptop, monitor/tv, mixing board, mics, etc.) to get started out with?
You're welcome! This video is sooooo old. I am still shocked that it is still helping people because the information is so old and outdated lol. But glad you liked it.
I learned some things about DJs from this video, I got the karaoke sometimes to and three times a week. Here in Baltimore city most of the DJs are old guys.my music is Barry White Teddy Pendergrass Ray Charles. most of the time I will get with a DJ that will leave the settings the same for every single . I have a very deep voice and when I need him to give me some base or highs he keeps it the same they will not give me the settings I need.. But every Friday or Saturday night a number of DJs will e-mail me or they text me to come to their shows I just stop going. altogether.
Great video. I am just starting out in the DJ business. I am a full time HS teacher and I do the DJ on the side to suppliment my income. I have everything I need for a typical music party. I have a few people inquiring about a Karaoke service. What equipment, above and beyond what I have already, do I need to run a Karaoke service? Thanks!
hey vince, i noticed u said that u use karma now, do i have to pay for it or free download? i'm in an enclosed basement, i think the eco in the room is messing w my voice. does the speaker need to be in front of the singer? what mixer is that pv10 i need to buy a mixer but don 't know which. i have an ns7 now i use seratodj n virtualdj anyhow thanks for everything....is nice to have you on youtube....i want to be able to sing n have good equip so voice sounds better. what recording device u reco
Hi Vince, First of all thank you for this upload video it's been so helpful for me and i suspect to thousands of people. I just have a suggestion though, If you don't mind would you please make a video of how do you configure the VDJ to use it for the RMX mixer and you can used it for both VDJ sound (filler sound) and the karaoke sound (sox and dotty). I have the same set up just like yours but I can't CROSSFADE the sound from VDJ ( as my filler music) and UA-cam ( for my karaoke). THANKS IN ADVANCE VINCE
I love to sing all my life but never been a professional singer, just sing for fun, I'm a Computer Scientist, Software Engineer, you are very organized and documented those songs so well, I'm wondering if you planned to sell those songs and copy of your books ???
Thanks for the compliments! Unfortunately, the selling of karaoke songs is illegal. You have to buy them from licensed outlets. Thanks for asking though.
Where do you get your digital karaoke tracks from? I was looking into Karafun, but I'm new to this and some of the websites suggested by a search engine seem unsafe! I currently have around 2,000 Karaoke songs but they are all on discs. I am planning on putting them on a laptop and then downloading more music but have had a hard time finding a reliable source to get the music. Thanks for you help!
I completely understand. Also I always try to remind people that this video is almost 10 years old lol. The information in here is so old and outdated. My set up today looks nothing like anything in this video.
Nice video Vince....can you walk us thru the Show Presenter Sax n Dotty software. I use an external hard drive. How do I make the connection between the two? What is "FV" and "U NP" and "C NP"
Hi Vince I too use karma karaoke, but I can't figure out how to play the dj songs in between the singers (filler music). can you send me some hints on how to make it work with the karma software...
Good info, thanks. My biggest problem is when a new singer joins. how and where do you add them to the list? Some expect to just start singing while other singers have been there from the start. some fights have started over this situation, some walk out .Any suggestions?
+Diane Stevens Hi Diane I know I'm not Vince but i've been a dj/kj for 20 years new singers go to the bottom of the list then stay in their perspective spot throughout the show. If you bump a new singer in front of someone that's been waiting an hour to sing your gonna have issues :)
karma seems really awesome and user friendly. i havent had a chance to fully use it though. what i liked about show presenter was that u can put the list of people who are going to sing and the song search. can u do that stuff too with karma?
ganthonyvr I use virtual dj/kj. I can change the skins to make it easier for karaoke. Only downfall is I have to keep a manual singer rotation list. However it has an auto mix feature that allows little or no dead air and I control key and pitch for each singer plus it keeps a history for different venues. Its an awesome program. PCDJ is working on theirs as well though and has alot of similararities to my current one I may check it out
hey my friend thank u for all of your videos specially thgis one it was a very very big help to me. i have a question, can u please help me out by telling me where u buy your karaoke music? and also can u tell me if you preffer karaoke in MP4 or cdg???
Hi Vince...sure gained a lot from your video...thank you. My question is: When the song starts and it's to high or low for the person's voice range what do you do?
+Jim Fitzpatrick I just let it play unless the singer tells me to do something. if they want the key raised or lowered, they need to tell me that before the song starts. I have had a person tell me to lower the key a half step or two while the song was playing and I did that. I'll basically do whatever they want me to, within reason.
I must have missed the part where you mention the speakers. You mentioned Lap Top, Mixer, Mics., and Monitor. What do you recommend for speakers? I'm trying to get a karaoke system going for home use. But I don't want a WalMart system. I want a more quality based one. Thanks.
im confused. how do i setup the DJ controller with the laptop and the analog mixer to get the "filler"? did you have a separate connection for the filler mixer and another separate cable for the DJ controller and then just turn down/up the opposite fader to get the song then back to filler?
I just bought MG XU10 Yamaha mixer and it sound suck on the vocal.my old vocopro digital mixer sound better.i have to buy another vocopro any recommendation?

Awesome video! I've been thinking of doing this as well to get extra $$ to pay off my house. I've only been doing this for my friends for free and I have the sound system but not the Karaoke system. We only play youtube and I plug in my iphone as they hold it and sing. You gave me great tips bro. With that said my questions are, when you buy the software, does it come with all the songs or do I need to buy each one? If so, from where? Again, great job on this video.
Awesome ! video thanks for sharing
I love it!
Hi vince! Where do you get new karaoke song? and do you know where can i download the software that u're using? btw awesome video! thanks man
Heheheh."
-"These are karaoke singers. which are not really singers"
Here's two questions I have for you.
-Where do you download your karaoke songs from?
-What is a ballpark base level cost of a decent system (laptop, monitor/tv, mixing board, mics, etc.) to get started out with?
THANK YOU FOR THIS easy to understand video ❤️❤️
You're welcome! This video is sooooo old. I am still shocked that it is still helping people because the information is so old and outdated lol. But glad you liked it.
DJ 2legit!!! great video!! 10+++++. please where can I get or buy that software. Thank you( hope to hear from you soon)
Thanks!
+Mike Hammett my email is mrjrhammett@gmail.com
hey vince, i noticed u said that u use karma now, do i have to pay for it or free download? i'm in an enclosed basement, i think the eco in the room is messing w my voice. does the speaker need to be in front of the singer? what mixer is that pv10 i need to buy a mixer but don 't know which. i have an ns7 now i use seratodj n virtualdj anyhow thanks for everything....is nice to have you on youtube....i want to be able to sing n have good equip so voice sounds better. what recording device u reco
Real helpful video you made Vince: thnx!
You're welcome!
Thanks for asking though.
very professional i operate a karaoke in cyprus in a similar way
Where do you get your digital karaoke tracks from? I was looking into Karafun, but I'm new to this and some of the websites suggested by a search engine seem unsafe! I currently have around 2,000 Karaoke songs but they are all on discs. I am planning on putting them on a laptop and then downloading more music but have had a hard time finding a reliable source to get the music. Thanks for you help!
I can't use song books any more .... carrying 160,000 plus songs my book would be a foot thick lol
I completely understand. Also I always try to remind people that this video is almost 10 years old lol. The information in here is so old and outdated. My set up today looks nothing like anything in this video.
Thank you Vince..
WHERES IS THE BEST SITE TO GET MUSIC FROM??
Nice video Vince....can you walk us thru the Show Presenter Sax n Dotty software. I use an external hard drive. How do I make the connection between the two? What is "FV" and "U NP" and "C NP"
Hi Skip, I don't use the Show Presenter software anymore. I don't even have it on my computer anymore either. Sorry. Good luck though.
Hi Vince I too use karma karaoke, but I can't figure out how to play the dj songs in between the singers (filler music). can you send me some hints on how to make it work with the karma software...
Hi Vince nice review man!
where do you get the tracks? Does in come with the software?
Regards
I am not Vince But Tracks comes seperate
Good info, thanks.
My biggest problem is when a new singer joins. how and where do you add them to the list?
Some expect to just start singing while other singers have been there from the start.
some fights have started over this situation, some walk out .Any suggestions?
+Diane Stevens Hi Diane I know I'm not Vince but i've been a dj/kj for 20 years new singers go to the bottom of the list then stay in their perspective spot throughout the show. If you bump a new singer in front of someone that's been waiting an hour to sing your gonna have issues :)
Thanks for making this video.
karma seems really awesome and user friendly. i havent had a chance to fully use it though. what i liked about show presenter was that u can put the list of people who are going to sing and the song search. can u do that stuff too with karma?
ganthonyvr I use virtual dj/kj. I can change the skins to make it easier for karaoke. Only downfall is I have to keep a manual singer rotation list. However it has an auto mix feature that allows little or no dead air and I control key and pitch for each singer plus it keeps a history for different venues. Its an awesome program. PCDJ is working on theirs as well though and has alot of similararities to my current one I may check it out
hey my friend thank u for all of your videos specially thgis one it was a very very big help to me. i have a question, can u please help me out by telling me where u buy your karaoke music? and also can u tell me if you preffer karaoke in MP4 or cdg???
cdg the best
send me a message ill tell you where u can get your Karaoke songs Aloha
Yes you can and the singer rotation list in Karma is 100 times better than in Show Presenter. The song search in Karma is great too!
very good video
Hi Vince. When setting up the sound card outputs, is it the USB DJ Mixer wich have several channels wich will be found in your output setup?
Thank You so much for this great info.. Seriously looking at Karaoke as a business.
Thanks.
JBL speakers are the best
what mixer are you using ?
please recommend one ?
I know you published this a few years ago, but Im thinking about adding Karaoke to my mobile dj system.
Nice video, thank you, I m very new to this karaoke thing, how can I be a DJ or KJ? Is there any short time course I can do here in Tampa FL??
Thanks! Well not that I know of. The best way is to learn from some KJs or DJs in your area or watch UA-cam videos. Good luck!
2 Legit ,question, how do I download kareoke music for my vdj? Is there a kareoke pool or does vdj have a way?
Vince I noticed that you have not formatted many of your karaoke files. Ex Disc artist song title.
DJ Prince, what’s the name of the software you are using here?
im confused.
how do i setup the DJ controller with the laptop and the analog mixer to get the "filler"?
did you have a separate connection for the filler mixer and another separate cable for the DJ controller and then just turn down/up the opposite fader to get the song then back to filler?
I just bought MG XU10 Yamaha mixer and it sound suck on the vocal.my old vocopro digital mixer sound better.i have to buy another vocopro any recommendation?
Am really new to this , i always wonder how to get the music or song into the sax and dottys soft ware.. and can we get the music video that Too..?
May I know the software system and volume controller please.
Can you please provide me with a hookup diagram for playing karaoke songs on keyboard using mixer interface and Yamaha psre 443 model keyboard. Thanks
