Hey everyone, I’ve been getting lots of messages from you guys saying how the audio part of the video is a bit messed up. I forgot to mute the camera audio, noob mistake. This was my first big video in this format & it won’t happen again. I’ve also been getting lots of messages asking how to use it and other questions regarding the Neve 1073 so I’m going to be making a PART 2 on this video. I’ll focus more on the audio, how it sounds, and how to use it and maybe how I’m connecting it all together. I’ll just talk more about the technical side of it. @lowkeyluxid hope your loving your preamp. Do u know anything about the neve 1073 dpa I actually bought it and I seriously do t know how to connect this to my Apollo x6 would you be able to explain so I can start recording vocals.
I just got the WA73 EQ and it is amazing so I could only imagine how the Neve sounds. Although I've seen alot of comparisons showing the WA can Hang with the Neve. Anyway congrats dood
@@Stunna95002 yes you will especially if you are patient and not selling for quick rent money. Some gear like my Avalon v5 have waiting lists and it took 3 months before the next shipment. Between that and retail being high people will definitely by taken care of used gear at that price
and always remember to get cleanest saturation wit most headroom to crank ur trim/output to the max right side. and keep ur input gain low until it sounds perfect

Can i have a question, if i connect direct Mic from 1073 to Apollo, how can i route, Mic in and Line out or i have to use Insert port ? Because when i turn EQ on, no sound come out
Might want to check if all the cables are connected correctly or if your mic is getting any signal. Look at the meters on the neve to check if it’s receiving signals if it is it has to be something you’re overlooking. Sometimes it happens to me and I just check everything and figure out its something small. Hope this helps
Great move bro. I have 2 1073s and I will guarantee you’ll use it a lot. Even go as far as processing your mix through it. But for real….your vocal chain is the most important. If your gonna spend 2-3k on your DAW, plug-ins, interfaces spend the same on your mic and pre amp. 💯

El 1073 también tiene DI, lo que significa que puede conectar instrumentos directamente al 1073. Sin embargo, el 5211 es un micrófono de dos canales pre dedicado solo a micrófonos. El 1073 es mejor, el Rupert Neve 5211 no tiene transformadores si necesitas dos canalés compra el 1073 dpx, el 5211 se queda corto por la falta de esos transformadores que le dan el color y profundidad al sonido, AMS NEVE y Rupert Neve son dos compañías diferentes, la segunda es una empresa reciente fundada por el ex dueño de ams neve

You got that proximity effect going on? Too close to the mic. Or are you recording with an effect on? Doesn’t sound dry which could help you see what the hardware is actually doing
Oh man by all means get it, especially with the mic you have that would be a godly pair. I’m enjoying it so much and I’m running it with my Neumann tlm103.
Hello Friend. but wouldn't it be better to put that beauty inside a sound card with bypassable inputs? the apollo is a spectacular interface but I would never want it to color the neve a little too much
@@lowkeyluxid Apollo doesn't provide enough ins and outs for all the money they charge for that little thing. The bigger ones are ridiculously overpriced as well. No thanks.
Hell yeah, the Neve 1073 would work wonders for you. I’d suggest watching preamp shootouts with live drums to see how the drums sound with different pre amps along the same price range. Maybe you have a specific sound you’re looking for and maybe other preamps could help you achieve that better. So I’d still do my research just to be safe this is the pre amp you want for sure. @@KillforKickz I believe you can connect it to either or, you would just have to research it a little more before hand. I’m not too familiar with drum tracking myself. Another option you can go for if you’re trying to record drums and want that classic 1073 sound is maybe take a look at the Neve 1073 OPX. Pretty much the same thing just with 8 mic preamps. So you would easily be able to record drums with that. But if you already have an interface with 8 mic preamps then you just have to figure out if you’d be able to use the sound from the Neve while using your dedicated interface. I’m not to knowledgeable when it comes to drum recording but I tried my best. Hope this helps!
Hi bro, I know this vid is 1y.o, but congrats on the purchase. Now, your last vid was 4 months ago, and I can’t help but notice you’re still rocking the same foam treatments in ur studio. If you get rid of the cheap foam on the walls & spend half of the amount you spent on this mic pre alone to invest in some real acoustic treatment, I can promise you that every piece of gear in ur studio, including ur speakers will sound 10x better! That what you should’ve done before buying any gear in the first place, because the most important piece of gear in your room is the room itself 😙 But no harm done, if you’re serious about making music, now is the time to properly treat ur room! There are millions of videos on YT on why cheap foam is the worst thing to plaster all over ur recording/mixing space, so I’m not gonna get into that here. Just treat the damn room properly, you’ll thank yourself for it! If you’ve spent all ur funds on gear & now a little short on cash, go the DIY route! The idea of sourcing the materials needed to make ur own acoustic panels & hanging them up yourself can be terrifying, especially if you never done any wood working before. Trust me, I’ve been there! But again, if you’re truly serious about music, this is literally the most important thing you could invest in your studio! If you need more info, a quick YT search will get u started on that rabbit hole. ☺️ Best of luck!
Well you picked a hell of a preamp! Neve and BAE make great preamps. I would next concentrate on getting a really nice compressor! Plug in compressors don’t add what a nice hardware comp can. That’s what I would spend my $ on next. Good luck
@@lowkeyluxid I have the WA 76, (2 of those) and the WA 2A- The WA 2a is also GREAT on bass. For acoustic, and vocals- You can run the 76s first, then add the 2a after to just smooth it out, and tamp it down. There's a lot of 76 copies, however, the WA 2A is a MUST. It sounds great on vocals, ac gtr, and bass. More and more I'm getting far away from plug ins.

the neve scheme does not provide for a di box without strong modifications . use an external di box to reduce the noise level and get more colors from your amplifier The impedance of 120K, as it is made in BAE, is too small for guitars. Please note that there are no directs in all modern AMS Neve claiming authenticity. Therefore, there are two ways to get the color of the field on the guitar. The first is an external dibox, the second is to remove the signal from the cabinet using 1073. Also in terms of overload capacity, the line and microphone inputs 1073 are the same.
Right so what is the di input in the Neve 1073 is it just a modified line input? Also I’ve been using a Rupert Neve Designs di and it’s amazing - and class A, and the design has his transformers also

@@lowkeyluxid Haha. Right. Didn‘t want to come across that rude. I‘m not a UA-camr but I‘ve been recording for 35 years. First of all switch off your cam mic when recording other mic or line signals. Then check your levels and phase. I‘m sure you will improve. It always baffles me when a channel about recording audio has got bad audio - I mean this is what it‘s all about, right? Take care.
The 1073 is the top of the food chain… I think you’d really put it to better use with less plugins and processing and better mic placement…. Put some headphones on and move the mic around until you get the sound… Congrats man.

When you record with Apollo into logic, turn off logics monitoring and you won’t have the phase issue.

Bro i have a problem. With logic pro the pre amp 1073spx detected a signal but logic pro detect nothing ..

This might sound like a dumb question but what is the name of the case that you put the preamp in & started screwing in?
It’s called a gator case. I have one as well , if you see “ 1U , 2U, 3U ….etc” it’s just means how many hardware space the case has. Hope that helps.

a female XLR to TRS 1/4” should work. and plug your mic into your 1073 with a male & female XLR
