Where Do Bass Go After They Spawn? (And How To Catch Them)
Вставка

- Its really easy once someone explains it! Post Spawn bass don't just disappear, they follow a very consistent pattern as they transition to Summer haunts. Today Matt walks us through each step as the fish shift from spawning to recuperating, and from traveling back to feeding. Post spawn is notoriously difficult because many anglers are unclear about how the fish move from April to June but its about to get a whole lot easier!
We've already discussed "Where Bass Go In Spring", post spawn is the exact same story run in reverse, but with a twist. After the fish spawn they'll move to the first ledge or point along their transition route. Here they will sit for a week or two to recuperate before feeding again. This is often the time when anglers feel lost and begin to panic about where the fish have gone. As soon as this period ends, the fish make a split. Half of the bass follow the remainder of the route out to deep outside or offshore structures and the other half push back in to the shallows.
The fish that turn shallow are the most fun because you're able to power fish them (flipping, punching, and frogging) but the fish that head offshore school up into mega schools and offer a whole different kind of excitement! It doesn't matter which direction you go, you're going to have a great time targeting either group of bass.
Below is a breakdown of the baits and tackle we're using to target these fish throughout the transition process and beyond.

Alex K 💯%
If you don't have enough time to view tons of fishing sites hear this loud and clear, I had been a fishing site whore. What a wonderful surprise to find, Tactical Bassin. It is the overwhelming number ONE bass channel! No more frenetic searching. 🚤🐟👌

The best thing about this channel is how enthusiasticly nerdy matt is. His excitement gets me excited!
One of my favorite things to hear when I get off work, “Hey guys! Matt Allen here...”
Hands down the best fishing info on the net!! NO BS!! Die hard experienced fisherman teaching the rookie to pros. Better than Bass fishing magazines. Not the blind leading the blind. It’s Experience and faith to reach out to the fellow angler and show him the ropes of being a better angler. So, share your experience, and take a kid fishing. Tight lines!!
Info we all can use right away. Thank you.
So last night I watched this video, because I know it’s post spawn here in Georgia. Because of your video I rigged a frog and went to the spot that I’ve been struggling to get the bass to bite at. Well within 10 minutes I caught a 6lbs 9oz bass. Which is my pb. Thanks for the tip.
Matt Allen is my spirit animal.
I wish I could remember everything you’ve said but I can always refer to your videos. Thanks, you teach, pros just catch fish but don’t teach. Thanks for being the best teacher on the water about catching bass.
Awesome video Matt probably the best fishing UA-camr out there thanks for all your knowledge brother helps me a lot
Maybe bass go to heaven after they spawn?
The same here. I am in upstate NY. Rochester ,and I have caught more 5 +s this year because of you and a couple other guys. I apreciate the teaching aspect of your videos so much. I have never in my life caught the quality fish as I do now. Not Just one . I go out everyday and seem to pull put a new PB !! We are still in prespawn here water temp is really cold still but starting to warm up and fish are starting to move up. Thanks again for the very effective teaching style.
So helpful. Learned more in this 13 minute video than I have in hours of other UA-cam videos. I really appreciate you both.
I have always loved post-spawn. They go to predictable spots and feed back up after not eating for a while. It is usually fire!
Not to be like everyone else but ive gotta say, This has to be the best informational video on catching bass. ive been really studying bass behavior throughout seasons. this video just took everything i know about bass, wrapped a bow tie on top and gave it back. I feel way more confident going into summer and locating these bass. Ill be back to post a picture of my trophy soon.
Hello Matt..thanks for all your tips..i learned a lot from you my friend..and altgough i must always adapt your tips in my context and climate of my country as all the seasons in USA is Very different here in MAURITIUS in the indian ocean we have only 2 seasons..but with your tips i figured out how to adapt them and learned so much and improved my skills..and i must say it was all thanks to your lessons..my Pb got from 7pounds to 12.9pounds..and i thanks you for all .Tactical Bassin is the best fishing chanel ever by far and for me its no 1 in the world ..all the best friends..may The Lord Bless you Guys ,always and for ever..😉

You sir, have a talent for teaching effectively!
Great video! Amazing fish..The best informative person I’ve ever seen, you’re a bass biologist 👍👍, Thanks for sharing it! 🎣
I'm still puzzled how you guys don't have more viewers. You're information is incredible. I've learned so much more from this channel than any other hands down. You deserve a million subs. Once you're there it'll be cool to say I was here when the channel had less than 50k
This is some very good information thanks for breaking it down👍🏽
I know you get this all the time. Just wanted to tell you your videos are great And very informative . I watch your videos every single day. I've learned so much from you. Thanks for taking the time to show us newbies how it's done!
Great advice as always. I’m in Florida right now, it’s been tough post spawn.
I’m going bass fishing at a lake for the first time this weekend coming! Using all of these
Great video.... especially for guys like me who have to wait for bass season to open up here in Canada. Post spawn is everything for us.
By far, the most informative UA-cam fishing channel. Thanks for the knowledge.
Matt you do great man idk why it’s just harder for me to watch your videos. You know what you’re talkin about, your deliver great info. I just can’t put my finger on what it is. Either way you’re successful on UA-cam and on the water. Good job man
Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge Matt. We all appreciate it.
The ONLY people disliking Tactical Bassin' videos are...um...the bass!
Michael Yolch - Ike, KVD, etc.
Another great one boys, thank you! 👍
Thanks for keeping it fresh..if people learn anything from Matt will be habits and how seasons change..be intune with your local water this info will help I promise. .nice Matt Allen! I fish the Alabama tensaw Delta opening up to Mobile Bay so this knowledge is very useful here as well

Particularly good video. I love the morning videos
Great video, Matt! Outstanding!
The thoroughness of this instruction is must be acknowledged, truly outstanding!
This is why I love @Tacticalbassin. I enjoy all of your videos and there is something to be learned in every one. That being said; when Tim, yourself, or both of you have get on a topic like this and just go, there is a deep wealth of information being shared with us!
This video, and the others like this, need to be watched several times just to let it all sink in. Thank you, Matt for reminding us; an expert fishing guide and a game warden sharing is what @Tacticalbassin is really all about!
Tight Lines!
Hey Matt Thank you again for going through that! After watching you and Tim, I actuality believe I can be a better fisherman. Thank you.
Great job, always extra special when you include family. Live your technique, trying it out here in Missouri.
Good job Matt, now help out the river guys:)
Yeah. Like the deleware river
How about the upper Mississippi
I did pretty decent this year thus far got my personal best but also got more bass than usual. Going to use these tips to have more success later on this year thanks Matt and hello from NY!
real tips from real fisherman thanks
Matt, love your channel! You and Tim have the best info on youtube for fishing! You guys are doing gods work lol keep it up and thanks for your time! If I could choose any youtuber to fish with it you be you guys!
Appreciate it!! They say its post spawn here in Texas so I was wondering why I was having a hard time finding them!
We're in Texas right now and there are still some spawners but almost all the bites we're getting are fish that are pulling offshore or to outside structures.👍
What part of Texas and what is working good for you guys?
Great stuff man, I love watching since you do so much teaching as opposed to just entertaining.
The greatest bass fishing channel on YT. Love your videos brother.
Thanks so much brother. You’re the best.
Thank you so much for the tips!
I wish I could fish with you guys y’all helped me a lot this season
Couldn’t have explained this any better matt good stuff👊
I’m always learning valuable tips from you guys! Keep up the awesome videos!
Thanks Matt, much appreciated. Great content like always.
Awesome video Matt thanks for the information I'm going to use this information right now in for the summertime thanks again brother
What a great video! So many good tips and general information. You guys rock.
Now this is a good video ,very informative! And fishing on Lake Erie in Cleveland Ohio I’ve found out that the bass after spawn like to stay in the current as well and close to rip rap, I tried to target a lot of trees that cast shadows hanging over the water usually they are sitting right in there waiting to ambush just about anything!
I love you tactical bassing
I’m new to catching fish year round. I usually catch most of my bass during spring and fall on top water lures. What exactly is a secondary point and how do I identify them? Love this channel too. It’s been VERY beneficial to me
Where you this weekend!!! When I got a goose egg trying off shore lol. Thanks for the tips 🥴
GOD! I needed this! My head's about to explode trying to get back on the bite at my local impoundment. I find 'em, drill some, then they completely vanish and no matter what I do, I can't get bit. A swim jig through the face of my main, helm mounted electronics has put me at a huge disadvantage but that's changing tomorrow with a new Garmin w/SideVu. Matt, if you happen to see this, what's a good technique for getting to those fish hunkered down in thick submerged brush that's below the surface. Our lake drew way down during drought and the vegetation forest grew and is now submerged and thick. I know fish are holding in it but how to get to them with the moss and gunk collecting on the brush and the tops are a few feet under the surface?!
Another awesome video with great information! Thanks!
Great video as always.
Thank you ,for always keepin us on top of our game!
Tim/Matt have you guys ever posted any tips about lakes with mainly spotted bass? Thanks for the great videos.
I feel like you turned on the FIREHOSE with all that info 🤣😂 all kidding aside that was Incredible Matt 🏆👊🍻
Fantastic video as always, my request is that in the future, you could add navionics map screenshots when you refer to specific bottom contour. For example at 7:55 a pic of the structure would help out
Love it. On my bodies of water, mostly channels, senko type lures and shallow stuff works best
How can somebody not like this video!!🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Thanks for another great video, Matt.
Another Great Lesson hope you guys are feeling the love 🎣💯🎣🙏
Great info, as always. Thanks
Great explanation! I finally subscribed!!
Great post-spawn breakdown!
Great vid Matt. How long do bass stay on the beds?
good question. I would also like to know the timing of the spawn.
Maybe 4-5 weeks.
ua-cam.com/video/hrZIA8dSzsQ/v-deo.html
About 4 weeks at least in Louisiana that's how it is. I caught a 6.5lb female spawning last weekend on a senko.
all depends on water temp and weather conditions, not really a set time
Great explanation! Thanks.
Great info Matt. Thanks
Thanks for the amazing video keep them coming
Awesome video!
Thanks Matt ,The best info ever ! Can you help us river guys ? Seems even more difficult !
Paul Van Tries I feel ya
Fantastic video
This stained water that I'm dealing with makes finding them more challenging. River fishing was just looking at the huge Garfish that are exploding like dolphins. Not one bass to be had today...any advice would be helpful. I will be changing some lures though. One has been caught while deflecting off lay downs using a small square bill red craw. The other one a strike king 4 inch watermelon craw with green die on the claws.
I just left clearlake yesterday i was there monday threw Thursday the bass bite was completely off. I seen big ones pulled off coves and back of creeks just like you said. But everything i threw spooked em and i mean everything. I seen a couple guys catch small bucks on fineness but had to work for em. Crappie bite was on fire though sk jus did that.
Great info thanks you guys are the best
Great Info as always
You guys post at weird times lol. I’m glad I work nights. 😂
4am pacific +\- Early bird gets the bass!
J P that’s very true!!
great vid Matt love you guys
Matt and Tim thank you for what you show us. Means a lot to us who are learning still.
Question, have you guys fished Melones? That’s my home lake and curious what your take on it is?
Great video.
Super sweet tips great video
Great Video!!! Thank you!!
I have a serious question, do you guys HAVE tough days?
Yep
Ha! Did you see what happened to Matt in Wyoming? Bad day right there!
of course they do. doesnt matter how pro you are. with fishing. you can dangle baits right on there nose. if they dont wanna eat, you simply arent getting bit. sometimes its the fish and not you
Always the best videos
I'm on the mobile delta river system , we don't have a lot of rock, would wood be better to key on or shallow grass on deeper points and ledges?
Thanks and you guys are awesome!
You use to pay for the advice Matt tells for free. He is one class act who knows fishing.
I do a lot of fishing on a shallow river in VA, lots of different terrain in the river, no grass to speak of. Mostly big rock, subtle rock shelf, and wood. Almost all rock bottom with some slower silted spots. During the hot summer months it seems like the fish are super scattered. That time of year we hammer the smaller fish, I'm talking 30-40 fish days but all small fish. I seem to only get on the bigger 4-5 pounders in the spring and fall. The river has a ton of current both small and largemouth are always relating to current breaks and eddy's whether visible or around submerged boulders. I am wondering if you have any pointers for finding the big bites during the heat of the summer. There is no opportunity for deep cranking and no junk to punch. BTW the river has a lot of spring fed water and stays cooler longer, spawn is usually during May- early June. I know it holds jumbos (5-6+ lb) because I catch them in spring and fall, summer is much slower as far as big bites. I have had sporadic luck with decent fish in the summer(3-4 lbs) burning spinnerbaits around anything that looks fishy, but have yet to dial in a reliable big fish program for July and August. If there is anyone on YT that has ideas I know its you guys. Thanks
Thanks Matt 👍
Have you all ever fished Lake Cumberland? If not would like to invite you all to try it out. Love the videos great information I have really just started bass fishing and your videos are super informative. Keep up the good work you all have my support. God bless
Super good info🤙
Great stuff as always! Question: fry guarders - aren’t they “post spawn” and how do you target those? That seems to be what I have around right now.
Great video, always informative and learn alot from you. Have you had any experience with any new med-light casting rods yet?
Wait up! I’m still waiting for the spawn!
Love it! I’ll go find them soon! I don’t get the dislikes... possible trolls 🤷🏼♂️ anyways, I’m learning for future kayak tourneys. Thanks man
Love you vids, thanks for putting it out, plus I live in Petaluma so I can get out on clear lake myself! P.s. do you ever take people out to teach 101?
Hey matt, great video again.. anyways in the midwest it was cold later than usual and now im not sure if they are spawning but there is fish that seem like they might be. There is several fish that appear to be guarding a certain area but keep coming back to this certain spot right against the bank. Are these fish simply cruising or are they bed fish?
great stuff. Thanks.
Hi Matt I got a question for you what kind of fishing reel do you recommend to get shimano 150 or shimano scorpion Thank you Matt
