I realized that too it's a bit sad. Foreigners seem to go to Vegas a lot too. If a foreigner asked me where I recommend they visit in the United States, it would never include those places. As a US citizen I wouldn't go to those places so I could never recommend the to foreigners.
True, but tourists normally just visit the largest or most famous cities in a given country. In smaller countries, tourists often visit the capital city and that's all. Many Americans have been to Mexico, but may have been only to Cancun or some other resort enclave that's not at all representative of the rest of the country.

Thanks for the feedback Scott, glad you enjoyed it. I’ve met a lot of people from around the world, most of them have all been pretty easy to get along with. The media does a fantastic job at showcasing the absolute worst of people. That’s why I like to travel around and speak to people to get a better understanding of how people really are. Sure there are some crazy people out there, but for the most part, people are just as you described. Perfectly ordinary.

the first thing when i think about America .... is the people ... the people make a country and not the other way around yes like every other country you'll get good and bad people ... but generally speaking Americans are very welcoming and can't be matched when it comes to hospitality
Thank you for this. Being from southeast missouri I have a slight southern accent but also the "southern hospitality". I like to think we are nice, friendly, and easy going people. However I cannot speak for people from the bigger cities. I prefer my more "quiet country" life.
These videos are great because it helps me remember at the end of the day we're all just ordinary people, regardless of where we're from. Shout-out to Scotland 🏴❤️ from San Diego, CA
if I could give everyone in the world advice on visiting America it'd be this.. View America as a continent we are diverse and incredibly different from city to city and especially state to state.
That's is so correct. We're all lumped together. In facts our states are like different European countries. If you meet someone from.Texas and you're from New York or someone from Idaho and another from Arizona or Minnesota we will be as different as someone from.another country.. In other words, visiting people from different states could be like meeting people from different European countries. Similar to differences and nuances if I met a person from England and another France. Additionally, our health services may not be ideal but neither are at least some European countries. One country in particular where they have free or low cost medical services, I've heard scary stories about people waiting weeks if not months for certain medical treatment even for some that are for something serious. I believe I recall situations where people died waiting for necessary operations but needed to wait their turn. By the way, I agree about the guns.
@@bobbyscott2123 No we don't. Watch James' interviews of people same questions in London. Only the English spit on Americans. Scottish have class. These Scots do really seem to know a lot about us, and I value their opinions, good and critical. Good to be seen faithfully and realistically by our friends.
Absolutely, I wholeheartedly agree. My girlfriend at the time bought me a 23andMe DNA test & I learned I am 99.6% Northwestern European. Makes so much sense looking back because my Pawpaw always told me we came from Scotland & he even showed me the graveyards in which my ancestors lay. Anyways, I live in Texas & my Mom has a very similar accent to my Pawpaw. For some weird reason, I can draw a lot of comparisons to the dialect/accents/cadence. Anyone else who's from the US that has Scottish/British ancestry ever thought the same or I out on a limb???? lol 🤔
I used to live there. The are as realistic as a rubber banana. The country is beautiful and the people are usually foul mouthed . As to weapons....there are far more incidents of knifing than there are of shootings here for the number of people with guns.
@@Clairsach Link me with that proof. Because there are definitely many instances of knife crime, but they are vastly centralised to the big cities, with some suburban areas contributing. But I doubt 5 million people commit as many knife crimes as 330 million people commit gun crimes.

I'm an American with Scottish and Welsh ancestry so this was really interesting! I've met a English and Australian woman and they said I look English and have the natural demeanor. Maybe I should pay my friends over the pond a visit.
Just to first point out - I think you’re maybe confusing Scotland and England. Scotland and England are different countries with different histories, cultures, (somewhat) languages, parliaments, education and legal systems. Scotland and England are not the same thing in terms of “demeanour” or culture and if you make that mistake people will not be happy with you. Scotland and England are both in the “UK”. There’s an important distinction that you’d do well to remember. I’m glad you have ancestry but just a bit of a warning - people in Scotland (and the UK but definitely 100% in Scotland) hate when Americans come over and talk about ancestry and stuff and say it makes them Scottish or they have “Scottish traits”. The thing is, Scotland and Scottish people have mostly moved beyond the idea of ethnic citizenship and ethnic nationalism. In Scotland you would not be considered “Scottish” in ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. You’d be seen as an American that perhaps had some distant ancestors from here but that’s it. To us, Scotland is a country and Scottish people are the people who live and make a life for themselves here. That can be a refugee from Syria, Polish immigrants, English people, Chinese families, Indian/Pakistani families and all of that. If they choose to live and make a life for themselves here, they’re Scottish too, as ethnicity means nothing. In fact, I come from a long line of Scottish highland family and some of my Pakistani friends are more Scottish than I am. Scotland and Scottishness are now rather an idea and a place and the people who live here instead of an ethnicity or biology or ancestry. I hope you do come visit one day, but I thought I’d point that out.
I recently found out I'm 25% Scottish. Thanks to my ancestry DNA test. So this was really enjoyable for me, as an American to watch. I agree with pretty much everything they've said. They were very respectful and kind about how they spoke about us with a lot of truth in there. It is funny that a lot of people that came to America were the daredevils. The ones that were risking everything to come here and start a new life and those are our ancestors. I agree that our country is very loud. 😅 Growing up in Florida and going to amusement parks for my field trips as a kid in school . This great weather and being able to see a lot of my large beautiful country. Makes me feel very lucky to live here. I only recently went to an NFL football game and the energy in the stadium was my most favorite part. The host of these videos is doing a great job representing us. This video makes me want to visit Scotland one day. I am a little more reserved and quiet so it would be nice to see a country of people a little less loud. 😅
8:07. Awesome insight. I think that is very true. Americans do have enduring optimism. I think that is less common in younger generations but I think social media has played a part in that, in a negative way.
I have beed in America my whole life...born here..female.. after about the last 20 years America has gone to hell...To many criminals, including government, men dont respect women anylonger, women dont act like ladies anylonger...Cities are full of homeless drug addicts and people going to the bathroom where ever they please, quality of food is terrible..Trying to produce to much to fast, young people dont want to work and expect as much stuff as they can get for free, and no one respects mother nature or the land anymore...Anyone who visits here from other countries should stay away from the big popular cities. .NYC, Hollyweird, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, etc...Go to see the real America, like the National forests, and smaller towns and take a drive through the farmland to little towns with history, where the good true and loving Americans live...Otherwise be careful of crime and fraud. Go to a small town festivals, or County fair, a Rodeo a parade...fishing and golf touniment...visit some Natural beauties like Niagra Falls or the Grand Canyon or Crater Lake, kayak down beautiful rivers, rent a car and drive up or down the West Coast along the Ocean...get out and experience the tidepools ..you will meet much better people.. And prob eat much better foods...
a lot of people here in the US feel exactly the same about guns, junk food, terrible healthcare system. Super fun hearing the accents and their trying US accents.
In a thousand years cars will be gone here but guns or weapon equalizers will be just as common as now. Right to self defense requires an aqualizer weapon, not some paper clip against an AK47 like those Russian kids had at that Moscow Concert.
I'm a Conservative, fairly traditional, very patriotic American living in Texas. I thought your video was great, even-handed, not slanted and fun, all which are refreshing qualities in these dichotomic times.
I recommend all Europeans to go to chicago. Tons of sports, museums, it’s midwest so it’s not had stuffy and intense as nyc and fake as la. You can drive out of town, there’s a ski resort 3 hours north. Great Lakes. You can get a small town feel and travel to some beach towns up the coast as well
To the Scottish folk watching this, Florida, New York and California are all completely different than the rest of the country. The south is known for their hospitality to guests, the Midwest for their kindness and willingness to converse with strangers, the east for their busy attitude but also their large cities and money, the west is known for wide open spaces, beautiful mountains and coastline and lots of places to explore. I've lived and traveled all over the US and am visiting Scottland for the first time. The people really aren't so different from Americans and are kind and patient. Scotland has old history all over and give the people a lot to be proud of. America is a newer place and their pride comes from the countries that made it what it is today. America in many ways is a combination of every other countries culture.
Most people around the world, and most European say that the Americans are the most outgoing and friendly people anywhere. That’s very very true and especially people in the south south east, and in central America like it in the Midwest.. we are usually :-) and love to laugh and hug one another a lot even if we don’t hug strangers, but very welcoming to strangers. Conservatives or moderates are very very patriotic and the liberals are more loud and obnoxious but I would say most of those of the younger people but I’ve even seen some people in their 40s and early 50s who are pretty loud and obtrusive. That’s pretty surprising because back in the 1960s and 1970s you would’ve never seen a 40 or 50 year old progressive at all because back then people were so peace and love that they were hippies and they were so antiwar etc. etc.. Americans are feisty, and we don’t take any crap at the same time. Many of us are so hesitant to get into war, which is why we didn’t get into World War I or World War II until we absolutely had to. The media is extremely biased and a lot of it propaganda but a lot of Europeans came to America before COVID-19 for years and they said one thing about Americans they noticed is that Americans work all the time and work too much which is true because Americans usually live to work and I think it’s something that’s been in bread but after COVID-19 a lot of people just got lazy and they wanted to work from home or not work at all and then there are together who are just your every day typical go-getters, and get up and go to work and that’s just their life .
We need to go abroad for a “holiday” what u call vacation a vacation for yous americans is mostly somewhere else in America whether we can take a 2 hour flight to Spain or 4 hour flight to turkey for the sun lol
We have laws that mandate a certain amount of minimum wage (we don’t have tip culture at all and tips when they happen are actually ON TOP of minimum wage) and we also have mandated holiday/vacation time from work every year. Depending on where you work and how long you’ve worked there, your annual time off can be around a month.
2:00 LA "all the way down to" San Deigo... You know what they say: to an American 100 years is a log time, and to a Brit/Scot/etc 100 miles is a long way. 121 miles by car from LA proper to San Diego. It's about half that from the LA metro area to the San Diego metro area. There are people who commute this distance daily. (Not me. Mine is three miles, but this is in Arizona and California. A coworker of mine commutes 60 miles each way though.)
Lol at the older lady. "Americans are too loud! Ban guns!" A bit set in her ways, doubt i'd be able to change her mind! And lol at the airplane and blues brothers quotes
Texas is wonderful. My family came from Scotland to America and helped build it. I’m, with all humanity, proud of that. We do love guns and BBQ, but one must be responsible when a gun owner.
You’re acting like rights don’t interfere with other rights. What about others right to life? Why don’t you change the constitution to protect the right to life?? Or do you think the right to have a gun is more important than anything?
I think these guys have a pretty good grasp on America. Everyone has the movie version of America. The news version of America. We know that being here is a different thing all together. One thing everyone needs to know is America is huge. Lots of people from all over the world. That fabric is a tight weave. Yet we all keep separate cultures and traditions as well. Because there's so many people. There's a lot going on. Two heads are better than one. And if all the heads go to America? Now suddenly it's a society that catapults past the rest. That's all it is. Then give them unlimited resources? It's not a mystery why America is America.
These were very nice people and I enjoyed their answers. The rest of the world and half of America doesn’t understand the gun culture. They don’t understand that’s it’s the great equalizer for those who exercise the right including the battered woman whose ex husband is kicking down the door hell bent on putting his hands around her neck, the elderly farmer who is approached by three hoodlums at his front door who are trying to trick their way into his house for robbery and assault, the innocent motorist who is being chased and harassed by biker gang trash, the person who is threatened with a knife in a shopping center parking lot. America is about individualism and individual rights. You don’t have to carry a gun for defense but if you did, you just might survive an attack. Thousands do every year. Your choice here. School shootings happen because more money is spent on athletic facilities than on security. The mentally ill are free. Criminals are cut loose to rape and kill again. There is not a gun problem, there is a crime and mental health problem.

I'm a born & raised US citizen & very aware most of the world isn't very fond of us. And I'm sure there's good reason behind it so I'm not offended. However, there were two things said in this video I took great offense to when asked what the people think of when they of America. The first is TRUMP as I dislike him immensely. When he was first elected, I was very ashamed of being an American. The other thing is one person said the worst thing: KARDASHIAN. I despise what they do, what they stand for, they are entirely fake, only scam their fans for profit, I find them toxic to our society and yet people still buy into what they're selling.
I'm a born and raised American citizen as well and I disagree that most of the world does not like us. I happen to also think that Trump is a jerk but he was an excellent president. Hillary and the current president are indescribable in a negative way. :-( I am far more ashamed of the lying, deceit in general corruption of Clinton, Joe and Hunter Biden and the DNC in general, along with the deep state, Comey, Clapper and the rest of them, then I am of Trump's ego.

Lovely people and country in Scotland. It is alarming how much anti gun propaganda they have been exposed to, clearly their government has zero intention of them regaining freedom and self reliance. Also, I'm also a bit amused at the healthcare comments as if they think the healthcare in the US isn't good or something when the simple reality is of course the majority of modern medicine innovation and achievement is from America.
2 things.. we had and have guns over here. not many people owned them tho because there was no reason to. but after a mass shooting at a school in Dunblane where 16 children and 1 teacher were masacred the govt decided to crack down on ownership and types of gun owned. as far as "regaining freedom and self reliance" thats just nonsense, the new law was supported by the entire country because we didn't want something similar to ever happen again [and it hasn't]. it was not controversial in the slightest. as for healthcare.. in the U.S your outcomes are only good if you can afford it. you have worst rates of infant mortality and the lowest life expectancy at birth and highest death rates for avoidable or treatable conditions than any other modern democracy. and you spend twice as much in terms of GDP for that. those are facts. no-one over here ever goes bankrupt because they can't afford healthcare.. it's impossible. that said I love visiting America going back for a fortnight in August.. can't wait
Freedom !!! (1st thing)...and all the blood that was shed in all the wars, and all the sacrifices that PAID for that.... !!! ... and will be shed in the future. Sobering.
I love essentially everything they have to say about us, aside from what they have to say about guns. It’s so obvious how poorly their media ( and ours ) portrays how horrible guns are. More than half of gun deaths per year in the US are caused by suicide. A horrible thing obviously, but preventing access to a gun as opposed to a rope, or bridge for that matter won’t change those statistics. They constantly hint to how many school shootings we have when in reality school shootings account for 637 fire arm related deaths since 1970… I feel as though they forget to recognize the fact that we have over 300 million people in this country. About 90% of school shootings between 1994 and 2016 involved only 1 victim ( I’m assuming gang related shootings ) as opposed to 10% of multiple victim incidents between 1996 and 2016. Statistically mass school shootings aren’t really something to be worried about in a country this large.
Hey, all of those statistics are egregious in every possible way. Only 637 children killed at school? Wow. The reason that you think these suicides and child murders are ok is because of our grotesque gun culture.
@@kmasse81 on a grand scale 637 lives lost in a span of 50 years is really not that big of a deal whatsoever in comparison to other things lol. Keep crying and don’t forget to drink your soy
@@kmasse81 more than 2x the amount people die in a day from heart attacks alone in the us than kids have been killed in school over a 50 year span. The facts don’t lie. School shootings aren’t an issue we should be focusing so heavily on. What about obesity? What about all the other things that kill kids in way higher numbers?
There is a very strong correlation between the presence of a gun in a home and successful suicide. Guns make it a lot easier to follow through on a momentary bad idea or bad impulse. Gun violence correlates strongly with numbers and easy access to weapons.
there's a reason we hate guns. google Dunblane and you might understand. for us 1 event like that was enough to say never again. culturally we just don't understand you tolerate 'any' of the senseless gun deaths .. thats all it is

Sure there are some crazy people out there, but for the most part, people are just as you described. Perfectly ordinary.
I’m from Texas, I’ve only visited Inverness! I love the Scottish people, everyone treated me so good. It might have had something to do with the cowboy hat 😂but when I retire I would like to have a summer house in the highlands! Such a beautiful country you have!!!
large majority of gun crime is in inner cities...most of america is relatively safer.
True, but what about the victims in the inner cities? Who is helping them?

And also White young males who walk around with AR-15s policing everyone and sometimes going into school to kill educators and children-White, suburban kids and White men from conceal carry states who will shoot you if you walk out of a Starbucks without paying.

the first thing when i think about America .... is the people ... the people make a country and not the other way around yes like every other country you'll get good and bad people ... but generally speaking Americans are very welcoming and can't be matched when it comes to hospitality
The Arab world would like a word...far more hospitable culture than any in the West
Thank you for this. Being from southeast missouri I have a slight southern accent but also the "southern hospitality". I like to think we are nice, friendly, and easy going people. However I cannot speak for people from the bigger cities. I prefer my more "quiet country" life.

Scottish people are so good at the American accent!
if I could give everyone in the world advice on visiting America it'd be this..
Really ?

I'd say your shows and documentaries help that. At least for me. I expect you to have a million guns haha, and for the people to be rude

It is very nice to learn perspectives from people in Scotland

They’re so wise and mature. We’re massive, friendly, extreme, dangerous. Eternal adolescents.
The Scots are so good at American accents! I can't say the opposite is true. Most Americans can't even come close to a beautiful Scottish accent!
Why do people only go to New York and Florida?
The same reason Americans go to London and Edinburgh, they dont know theres anywhere else
I've been to Florida but also Chicago (for the blues music) and Scottsdale, Arizona.
What a silly question.
I love these people!
Watching my fellow Americans try to defend our country in the comments is bittersweetly hilarious.

Depending on where you work and how long you’ve worked there, your annual time off can be around a month.

2:00 LA "all the way down to" San Deigo... It's about half that from the LA metro area to the San Diego metro area. There are people who commute this distance daily. (Not me. Mine is three miles, but this is in Arizona and California. A coworker of mine commutes 60 miles each way though.)

America: Friendly, outspoken, love freedom, gun, and cannabis. Do whatever you want as long as nobody gets hurt.
Sheesh, the American accents are pretty good
As a thoroughbred Scotsman what is the meaning of “Banger”?
Has more than one meaning lol😂
You haven't "been to America" if you haven't been to all four corners and all points in between. It's just too big and varied.

its simple, americans just think theyre country is the best to live in. Most still don't have a clue or would admit how other places are better in some ways.
I am far more ashamed of the lying, deceit in general corruption of Clinton, Joe and Hunter Biden and the DNC in general, along with the deep state, Comey, Clapper and the rest of them, then I am of Trump's ego.

2 things.. we had and have guns over here. not many people owned them tho because there was no reason to. but after a mass shooting at a school in Dunblane where 16 children and 1 teacher were masacred the govt decided to crack down on ownership and types of gun owned. as far as "regaining freedom and self reliance" thats just nonsense, the new law was supported by the entire country because we didn't want something similar to ever happen again [and it hasn't]. it was not controversial in the slightest. as for healthcare.. in the U.S your outcomes are only good if you can afford it. you have worst rates of infant mortality and the lowest life expectancy at birth and highest death rates for avoidable or treatable conditions than any other modern democracy. and you spend twice as much in terms of GDP for that. those are facts. no-one over here ever goes bankrupt because they can't afford healthcare.. it's impossible. that said I love visiting America going back for a fortnight in August.. can't wait

@@usersaccount5706 I say a week for me cause I didn’t have time in the weekday. And in nyc it’s not thousands for a mri.
@@usersaccount5706 and a seizure is more serious than a ACL tear which I had. Your uncles was more urgent and time sensitive
@@jswats92 exactly, we get what we need, when we need it. My uncle needed a scan, he got one within 72 hours so I don’t know why your slandering our healthcare when it does a phenomenal job of keeping us safe. I think Americans use the phrase “don’t knock it until you try it” you paid probably hundreds of pounds for an MRI and it took a week. My uncle paid a small tax and got it with no time wasted. Fucking clown
Bluegrass!! ❤💙
Funny, no one has ever asked me what I thought of Scotland.

It was great! But they dont realize you can walk into a store and buy a gun. It takes time and background checks.
