- Griffin the African Grey Parrot isn’t a fan of bath time, unlike Alex the Cockatiel who loves it! 🦜🚿 In this video, I try to find a way to make bath time enjoyable for Griffin. This time, I use a spray bottle to gently mist him, but he still doesn’t seem to like it. Join us as we explore different methods to help Griffin enjoy taking a bath or shower. Any tips or suggestions are welcome!

My grey who is now 17yrs old has always hated bathing. He will occasionally sit in his water bowl and splash about though. I actually plonk him in a sink bowl every few weeks and give him a good shampoo and rinse with special bird shampoo. He doesn't much like it but he allows me to do it. His feathers looks gorgeous afterwards when he has dried off.
Griffin will probably be very mad at me😂
Both my African grey and Sun conure hate the spray bottles. I pretty much tried like you did. Now, they treat the spray bottle as the enemy. If I pick it up, they run and hide. This goes for any spray bottle, no matter the contents. I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Just make sure that they both have clean fresh water. I have had my African grey for 25 years, and the only bath he has ever taken is in his water bowl.when he does this, I fill a large glass, and top off his water bowl when it gets low. Yes, he makes a mess throwing water everywhere.
If they don't take a bath at all, are there any problems?
@@FunnyAlex2024 I haven’t seen any. They bathe when they want or need it. Trying to force it on them just induces stress.
One thing that I noticed about both of my birds, is that if I open the windows on a hot day, they will both take a bath. Also, in the winter, if I build a fire in the woodstove, and it gets warm in the house, they will both take baths.
Bathing mice is a good animal model for studying gastric ulcers. Bathing is a significant stressor, and even a single session of bathing and swimming for 90 minutes in warm water is sufficient to induce gastric ulcers.
Mice don't like water, but most birds like bathing.
