Great video! Looking forward to future ones. I noticed a few other comments, so to whom ever may read... I like to use a 15 lb bumper because when I used a 20 lb it would not sink with the light lead and bead, so it would not pull through the small bobber hole. ( pertaining to the clear drift bobbers). Also I like to add a second bobber stop under my bobber, that way if I get snagged I won’t loose my bobber. Also this allows me to fish a fixed bobber presentation without switching gear.
jeffh699 - I couldn’t agree more. 90% of the time I have another bobber stop below the bobber. It’s just a little bit of insurance considering the price of bobbers and gear ( bobbers specifically) only recently have I started adding the bumper. I had a rod setup with both those additions sitting next to me but the vid was already running long. I figured I’d cover that in an upcoming vid. I’d like to get through a good chunk of techniques before the fish come in.
One tweak Ive adopted is adding a second stopper above your swivel (b/w your swivel and bobber) in case you snap off above the swivel, you wont lose your bobber.

wrote it all down! every bit. Thx for the killer king spinners! 1 question- I have 3 9 ft g loomis rods. Do I need that xtra ft, ft & a 1/2 to mend the line? looking at a g loomis 10'6" that would handle kings also but its $375.00 - yikes! also I have a 5000 stradich & a 5500 plus I have 2 low profile revo toros that would hold plenty of line for steelhead. Some seem to prefer thumbing line out but Im thinkin open face gets the line in quicker for a quick hookset. Which would you recommend a newbie starts with? Great informative video thx.
Jim Mascaro - Thanks for the order! I meant to get back to you on this original question. 9ft is a good length, it’s just on the shorter end. I like a bit longer of a rod for float fishing but 9ft will work great for throwing spinners too, especially with one of those low profile reels on it. I prefer baitcaters/low profile reels for spinners and float fishing. They have a lot of advantages when dialed in..... in my opinion. It’s all about the adjustments. I seem to have more loose line in the water when I’m using a spinning reel when float fishing and I like how the low profile feeds out line without messing with my presentation too much. Really it comes down to preference though and what you are comfortable with. I would float fish with a 9ft as well but it’d be on a smaller river like the Wilson or something. Once you start getting to bigger water I like the extra length
Really great information with some really good pointers that wouldn't be obvious or intuitive to someone that has never chased these amazing fish. Like the distance from hook to bead and why. I do have a rookie question.... Is there a scent you would use at certain times compared to other times/conditions. Like your mentioning using water soluble on jigs. That made sense. But would there be conditions to use certain scent like murky water or clear fast water? Thanks in advance.
Rick Pritchett - Thank You Rick. I’m glad you’ve found the info useful. Sometimes it’s the small things can’t can be the difference between catching fish or not. When it comes to scent and water conditions, any of the gels will work. Honestly I don’t really prefer one brand/type over the other when it comes to different conditions, I just want something that is going to stick as long as possible.

I haven't had a lot of success with drifting beads with this method however the success I have had with beads is always been bobber doggin. I feel that bobber doggin puts your presentation more in the zone, with the current pushing your float down stream and pulling your presentation behind right into their face, just personal opinion btw...

@@AnglingAddictsPNW So what is the difference between the two set ups besides the float (torpedo vs. blunted)? They seems identical to a gear fishing noob such as myself. Connor Pennings Outdoors - yes we do, and I’m glad we do. Helps put the whole “flossing” thing to rest. I usually run mine pretty short anyhow, even more so when the water is dirty.
Big thing with this setup is knots and a bumper. 20lb flouro or 15 is good too with an Alberto to 40 or 50lb hi vis braid(30lb cuts itself and snaps). Blood knot and double uni will just snap losing your whole leader and bobber since 20lb flouro is so strong. FG and Alberto are the only ones that will not snap at the connection. Use fly floatant to keep the bumper floating and tie the leader right before you fish not the night before because it will snap. A lot of spots people fish this rig the beads just dragging bottom. Leader length and size is key to make the bead roll and the water has to be adequate to present it right. You can run a dropper on the weight to keep the beads out of the rocks
Northwest Oregon Fishing 30lb braid with snap so easy you don’t even know lol It cuts itself during leader connections and just normal barrel knots it breaks. 10lb test and a clinch knot you may be fine but a 4 or 5 wrap uni wetted and cinched slowly wont break before a double uni connection. Do some testing with gloves and see. I used brand new braid and it still won’t hold enough to tie a 20lb bumper on. Gotta run 40 which is still likely to fail if it sits too long so 50 or 65lb for full knot strength and to match diameter better. I use 80 for bobber fishing chinook since it won’t dig in and can have a strong connection to my bumper of 40 or 30lb. A uni knot to your swivel or lure is extremely strong compared to the line to line connection say a blood knot. Uni to uni is extremely weak but guys don’t know better or they wouldn’t run it. Salt water guys don’t run blood knots for a reason. FG or Alberto are ideal. I hear the slim beauty is good too. I learned this with maxima ultragreen last season. That stuff won’t break at the swivel it will always snap your line to line connection first unless you only do like 2 or 3 wraps but that’s sacrificing its true line strength and I won’t settle for that. That’s just my opinion over the last few years of breaking off setups at the braid connection and trying everything I can to fix it. The 30lb and smaller is just too thin to connect to leaders over 12lb from my tests.
Northwest Oregon Fishing the leaders you pre tie shouldnt break it’s a snell or egg loop the hook will bend out before that breaks. I’m talking about the connection to your swivel and weight being stronger than the braid to bumper connection resulting in break offs at the line to line connection.
Northwest Oregon Fishing tie up a rig the night before and it’s gonna snap that’s just a fact I’m not gonna argue it. Hell bass fisherman even know this come on. Knots will wear making them weaker over time. Tie on a fresh spinner and snag it with the blood knot you tied last night and watch it snap off your whole leader. Chains only as strong as it’s weakest link

Leader length and size is key to make the bead roll and the water has to be adequate to present it right. You can run a dropper on the weight to keep the beads out of the rocks
Ive never had 30lb braid break on me, or my leaders that i tie before i go fishing.......
Oh. I read it wrong. I use the FG knot. I can't remember the last time i broke off on a fish besides my mosquito hook bending straight on a chinook.
When we going fishing?
