    Stippling is an ol' reliable of vehicle painting, nice to see it used on characters too. Might be a fun idea to do a "Painting a tank like a character VS painting a character like a tank" video!

    Interesting stuff. For the skin you are progressively adding a higher value of the complementary colour of the dark plum.

    As soon as I saw that green and purple I was instantly reminded of James Wappel's "Radiant grey" - a mix of radiant green and violet. Same concept and reinforces my thoughts about using that colour on my own boys.
    Building on that, could you apply similar tactics for doing pale green skinned ghouls? More green, reserved purple for highlights for that near grey? If so, would a deeper green work as a quick and dirty shadow for the underside? Nobody will ever see under little ghouls, so I'm thinking lazy darker green, blend the edges with the lit part and move on with my day

    Your advice has been great on this but for some reason my eyes can't see grey tones or silver metalics that easy. Its why I default to non-metal metallic painting now because its easier for me. I keep trying with Vallejo Metal Color like you recommend but I have to mix in some other colors to see the greys transitioning darker or lighter or I have to keep taking pictures and using a black/white filter otherwise.
    I can see the difference between gun metal and silver in that set for example but not between two that are close together.
    It doesn't relate to ghoul skin, but I appreciate your advice, its helped me to use grey-scale now a lot easier without computer assistance.

    I'd love to see you do a high gloss blinged out paint on something! Speaking of bling, I watched Squidmar's video on the best gold, and my retributor armor painted models don't look like the one in his video. His looks like a deeper yellow than mine. I'm using the H&S ultra 2024 and thinning with Tamiya X20A.

    Question don´t know if you already have made such a video.
    But if not would it be possible you could make one about making warm colors read as cold colors to the eye and vice versa.
    Ala how would you make yellow, orange, and red read as cold and violet green and blue read as warm.
    Same with maybe neutral colors such as white, black, brown and grey.

  • @IronShake90

    hey vince, loved this tutorial. I see it as a continuation of the vampire flesh one you did with radukar. my question: do you recommend using any sort of glazing agent with paints when it comes to the glazing step or would you just thin down with water? I loved the additional tip of dabbing the glazed brush on a paper towel, I have more than once found my brush far to wet and ended up making a puddle on my model.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  3 місяці тому +1

      In this case, I just used water, but thinner medium can help if you're not as comfortable with glazing.

  • @benharkness8697
    @benharkness8697 3 місяці тому

    Great video once again. Some many good tips. Many thanks! You finished the wings with a very thin glaze. What sort of ratio of water:paint did you use?

    • @VinceVenturella

      Hard to say exactly, probably something like 4 water to 1.

    Thanks so much for showing this wing technique, i will definitely use this for my fel bats! I was having troubles with shading but an important thing that I see you do here is keeping a relatively bright value on the underside as well!!! kind of like light is passing through the membrane. Did you do deeper shadows on the underside or just keep it mostly the same steps/mixtures?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  3 місяці тому +1

      Glad it was helpful! Same steps as light would pass through.

    This may be my favorite undead skin you have shown! Do you think it would be possible to dry brush the layers vs traditional layering for this technique? And then glazing over the drybrush? Have about 3k pts of FEC I am trying to painted up relatively quickly. Thanks!

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  3 місяці тому

      Sure, if you were doing a whole force, you could do this with a soft drybrush effect. But you'd need to be alittle careful. :)

    Wonderful vid as always Vince, I’m currently working on a red dragon miniature for D&D, and I’ve based the wings in a sort’ve desert yellow, sandy color to be a warm contrast to the dark red I based coated the scales, can you give any recommendations on how to use the same wing techniques here but on yellow skin?

    • @VinceVenturella

    Fun video as always! I do have a question about the greens you used - I'm having trouble visualizing how I would mix those myself. My gut says green, plus purple (blue to cool, red to desaturate), then white to get the lighter green. But something about that doesn't seem like it would produce those two colors. Any thoughts on how you'd mix those, or just how you'd do this recipe, if you didn't have those bottles?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  3 місяці тому

      Well, cold blue is by it's nature less vibrant, because it has blue. That being said, blue violet from Vallejo or AK 3rd Gen are good, Cultist purple from AP is also good.

  • @mverna3628

    Having studied bat anatomy and taxidermy, the membrane between the fingers that make up the wings when stretched will lighten but is always the same color as the skin on the fingers/claws. Have you ever painted membrane wings like that? Also, veins line through the membrane. Is there any technique in that effect?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  3 місяці тому

      You are correct, we are being a little fantasy like here, they are stretched thin and so in the light can appear a lighter tone of the same color, but it all has skin over it. No reason you couldn't do the same thing and just vary the value.

  • @Epyon1201

    • @VinceVenturella

      It varies, each color and paint brand can be different, but just about 3-4 water to 1 drop of paint roughly.

    • @VinceVenturella

      Yes. I use different techniques on different elements depending on my goals, each suited to that particular purple. For pure speed, I will often alter, but you could build to high quailty through this.
