- Sometimes people can’t just let a video game be what it is and must find fault with anything. For this list we’ll be shining the spotlight on characters that caused controversy, that while some was deserved, most were not. In this video we’ll shield our eyes from Eve’s sexiness in Stellar Blade, pretend we never laughed at Duke Nukem’s juvenile humor, and trust Kojima’s process when he created Quiet for Metal Gear Solid V, along with many more ridiculous instances. Eve was literally modeled after a real life Asian woman, those people who say that the developers have never seen a real woman before are looking extremely foolish.

Just think first, its just a video game and not take it too far, speaking of death threat Laura’s children is also threaten today just because of their mother play a hated video game character. An interview from Laura said she can’t take it anymore and ask everyone to stop.
Sending death threats to a voice actress is very immature. One of them at least apologized to Laura.

Death threats to anyone is just sick and downright evil. But when you threaten someone's kid(s), you know you crossed the line. I get why people hate Abby in TLOU:P2, and Laura just simply voiced the character. She's not to blame and don't forget she's just a voice actress, not a developer who chose how Abby should be.
People SERIOUSLY need to take a look at themselves in the mirror and realise how much of a jackass they are and that death threats are NOT to be made against ANYONE! Especially children who had no part in what their parent did!
Abby's hate was so bad that the VA's newborn son's life was even threatened.

Any kind of death threats are childish and stupid but doing it towards someone’s child is straight up uncalled for. Hate the character all you want but if you send death threats to the actress AND their newborn child that does not make you a fan
Eve is definitely attractive but she like the rest of the game was heavily inspired by Nier Automata and it's gorgeous protagonist 2B. So are we really that shocked that Eve is similar to her?
2B being hot is a lot more subtle and only shows at certain angles etc.
Eve is literally like a jiggling sex doll running around on your screen for 90% of the game (whether you love that or hate it)

It's just like the last Airbender movie most of the actors got a lot of hate to the point it was their last movie especially Aang.
People just don’t want to put themselves in Abby’s shoes. She was seeking vengeance for her father which is justified because he was literally moments away from creating a vaccine for the infection and Joel stopped him. Joel started to care for Ellie and couldn’t let her die because it would be like losing another daughter ALSO UNDERSTANDABLE even if it meant sacrificing a chance to create a cure. People literally hate Abby because she was avenging her father’s death. Forget all of her physical features.. Loved both games and glad part two got GOTY.

I love Joel, and hated Abby for killing him, but having us then play as Abby was a brilliant way of showing how the "good" and "bad" guys are only judged as such from the point of view we are given. We love Joel and Ellie because they are the characters we've gotten to know, but Abby wasn't a monster for killing Joel any more than Joel was for murdering her father, or any less justified in her motivation to avenge her father's death than Ellie's to avenge Joel's.

Suffering PTSD, losing friends over their vengeful obsession, being stuck in a love triangle that has pregnancy, and the fact that their target would die anyway if they’d let go of their vengeful obsession (Joel and Tommy would be killed by that horde in the blizzard, and Abby would starve to death on the pillars)

All honestly, I don't think I've ever come across any kind of controversy about guys being sexualized in video games. Mojo or otherwise.

I’m gonna be honest… I don’t view Abby as a controversial character, I mean what did she do to get this reputation? killed the man that killed her father & slaughtered everybody that she knew & how does Ellie respond? By going on a murder spree & kills just about everybody that Abby knew in order to avenge Joel. yet Ellie’s applauded for her actions & Abby is loathed for hers, even though it’s the same action. double standard much.

And a delight to play. I enjoyed the first game. But #2 game was a masterpiece in storytelling. 🤓🤙
What I find so funny about Eve from Stellar Blade is that she's literally Bayonetta 2.0. Don't matter if she is modeled after a real person, everything about the game character itself is Bayonetta across the three distinct designs that they made of her.

The funny part that I always take away from the thing surrounding stellar blade is the fact that not only is the character of Eve literally modeled after a real life Asian model and actress if I remember correctly. But the individual who actually did the character modeling was also a woman.
Also, Kotaku in my mind has literally no moral high ground to stand on because they don’t do journalism. They are nothing more than an agitator website just like rock paper shotgun.
I remember during the initial release of battlefield five I believe it was Kotaku that came to the defense of the one individual from the development team, which literally called the detractors “uneducated morons“ and he also said “if you don’t like the game, don’t buy it” which, as we all know happened And battlefield five I think until the release of Battlefield 2042 had some of the lowest performing numbers of any of the battlefield games. Honestly, I think 99% of this “controversy“ is purely designed around simply wanting certain websites or agencies or anything like that to have a quick littledash of limelight.
The Eve controversy is so pathetic, twitter freaks get so worked up for seeing a character that is a work of fiction that isn't supposed to represent real life, it's plain and simple if they don't like it then they should give thier attention to something else, a call for censorship is never the answer especially that the game is rate M for mature audiences.

Abby in the Last of Us Part 2 is the Most Controversy/Hated Character of all time.
So much that the Actress who Played her Got so Many Death Threats from Fans who Played the game because of her Character Ending Joel’s Life from the Beginning.

Fucking hell... I recall that shit a long time ago. Seriously, it was awful seeing Laura Bailey getting death threats for no reason at all. Plus, she's a great actress. I know her more as Lucina in Fire Emblem Awakening and Kotone Shiomi/Rise Kujikawa in the Persona series. She only provided the voice and nothing else. And yet, people still went after her like that. It's unbelievably horrible that she gets death threats, all because she voiced Abby in The Last of Us Part 2. So uncivilized...

These are examples, for the most part, are examples where developers should just ignore the demands of the ‘modern audience’. Or outright tell them “Shut up! We can make sexy women in games if we like, you have NO SAY in what we create.”
Eve was unfairly scrutinized, Abby was changed into a character fans couldnt like or even recognize, reboot Lara was modernized at the cost of what made her appealing (not just in a physical sense).
If Abby having muscles caused a problem, then every single guy is insecure or don’t have any of there own. I go to a lot of gyms and I’ve seen some girls that can shred more than me.

While the controversy of Rainbow Mika is a very know discussion, but what about our fan favorite Sakura Kasugano?
Her first appearance in the Alpha series had impacted the Street Fighter franchise by storm. She is a cute Japanese high school girl who is a tomboy fighter and she is eager to be Ryu’s pupil.
They started out to be treated like siblings but Capcom made a weird age gap relationship where teenager falls for someone who is in his 30’s in both SF4 and SF5’s stories. And this cause and unsettling upsets to most western gamers of changing her Character. Hope Sakura can find someone else.
Longtime fans prefer Ryu x Chun-Li since the World’s Strongest Woman and Interpol Agent has grown fond of the Eternal Wonderer in Street Fighter 2. There are plenty of fanarts, Chinese comics, mangas, and merchandise of them together is what they’ve loved seeing. Even there is some subtle within each of the game’s stories like taking Ryu out for shopping or saving Chun-Li and Li-Fen from fire with his Haduoken technique. I hope Capcom can make the Ryu x Chun-Li pair canon.

What's so controversial? A bunch of self entitled narcissists try to ruin fun on all sides. There was nothing wrong with R. Mika's super attack, there was nothing wrong with Quiet, or Eve or anything!
Except Abby. She's just a terrible character. Everything else however, get a life and job.

Halo, Final Fantesy, Call of Duty, Shadow of the Colossus, God of War, Mass Effect, and Overlord gave you the perspective of the villians and NOBODY complained about that.....
I remember watching the R Mika EVO ESPN controversy as it happened and thinking the whole thing was stupid. Also, the newer Tomb Raider series is great and playing as Abby in The Last of Us 2 is one of the most interesting things about it and I wish more games would take the risk of forcing the player to walk in the antagonist's shoes.
And controversy is inevitable, it’s not often that video games doesn’t have some kind of controversy… I’m not a big fan of it myself. Usually a controversial topic is born from a group of people who had an opinion that was decidedly different from the initial reaction of a larger group of people regarding a certain concept or in this case character.

I’m actually surprised seeing Bayonetta isn’t on the list especially how close that IP is with Nintendo and most see that company as the ‘Kid friendly’ one.
While the first two reasons regarding Abigail are very good ones, I don’t think the last one is a good one at all. In fact I think it’s absolutely ridiculous… so what if she has muscles? I think it was interesting to see the developers design her character like that to be honest

I honestly have no problem with Lara Croft’s sexuality and the changes of her character. It’s fine to not like the rebooted series since 2013. But don’t throw a ton of negative resentments towards Crystal Dynamics due to the fact they redefine the franchise by adding in the survival vibes.

I was expecting MJ from Spider-Man 2 to be here. A lot of people started bitching about her because she "looked very masculine" and different from her appearance in the first game (some people even started calling her a self insert of the lead writer)

Look I know that several decisions in TLOUS 2 were very controversial and fans had understandable reasons for the hate towards it but harassing Laura Bailey and sending death threats to her and her son who was a baby during that time, is sick and inhumane! Laura was simply doing her job which btw she did an excellent job voicing her and had nothing to do with the decision to kill Joel. You can blame the writers for those choices but you shouldn’t send death threats to someone just because you don’t like what they do. These are human beings to that were simply doing their jobs on both ends. The same can be said about Erica Lindbeck in 2023 over someone using her voice in an AI video without her consent and to Cristina Vee earlier this year for being an alleged Zionist all because some random asshat made a fake list and they told her to kill herself. I’ve met them and they are the some of the sweetest and kindest people I’ve ever met, all three women didn’t deserve any of the shit that happened to them. They deserve everything for all the characters they’ve brought to life and the joy said characters have brought us over the years. I just hope that someday people will come to their senses and learn to take a second and ask themselves “is this really something to get worked up over?”

I suggest that WatchMojo replaces the current announcer with a more credible narrator. Throughout the video, the announcer often downplays controversies in the lists with language that trivializes the topics. Many items on the list deserve criticism, but it seems like the announcer personally enjoyed these games and therefore remained closed-minded about the issues being discussed.
Abbey was just not fun and that was more pacing , execution, Joel kill and awkward love scene. I could understand the character but I could not care less about her story. We had no shared history unlike Ellie
