The Weather Channel - "Storm Alert" Local Forecast
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 жов 2024
- This amazing song, "Storm Alert" by Stephen Arnold, was featured on The Weather Channel. From 2005 - 2008. It was heard whenever a Hurricane Watch and or Warning is issued to any part of the country. The song is typically heard during the Local on The 8s. There is no voice over from the automated Intellistar or WeatherStar because this was recorded from the National Satellite Feed.
2008 Hurricane Season Update:
The song was slightly updated for the 2008 Hurricane Season and was used for Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Ike. It will likely be used for other future potential hurricanes and major storms for this year. The song is usually played at 28 or 58 past every hour in its entirety.
Tropical Storm Helene and now Hurricane Milton just formed and this song is in my head.
Same
For any music theory nerds wondering why this sounds so epic - this is an example of modal interchange, i.e. borrowing chords from a parallel minor key even though the tonic chord is major. This creates tension and release. The chord progression is basically a "Super Mario / Billy Shears" cadence in reverse order (bVI bVII I -> I bVII bVI). It's normally applied to make grand and explosive endings to songs such as Whitney Houston's 1991 Super Bowl Star Spangled Banner ending. Here, Steven Arnold brilliantly uses this to create an equally powerful version of this progression, but in descending form, perfect for an approaching storm.
Nice.
Useful information, I need to learn music theory, I’m learning to make better music so I hope to use this strategy to improve on more “dramatic” sounding music
Awesome! 🎶🌀 This piece gives me chills!
Now that you mention it, I get some prog rock vibes from it. Don't know the theory reason why, though, but probably the same reasons you mentioned. Prog is epic, 20+ minutes of epic sometimes.
This does explain why precure song Shining Star reminds of song and those of you who are wondering what precure is it is an anime franchise
When I hear this it sends chills, it brings back those memories of the 2000s decade hurricane seasons especially with Rita and Ike living in southeast Texas
That is why they should have activated it for Ida. It would have given a warning basically
I was in Galveston, TX at that time.
yep
I grew up on the Gulf Coast. 2004-2005 was a time to be alive
Why they got rid of this, I HAVE NO IDEA, this song is amazing
They still have it
New one is better imo
@@jaydeng11mcpe20 They do? Someone said they stopped playing this bc it produced ptsd. 🙏
I like this theme too, but it has a very dark history. Think of all the strong hurricanes it was activated for.
Imagine sitting in New Orleans on Aug 29, 2005 just waiting for Hurricane Katrina to end your life. Then when you hear this you suddenly change your mind and is like, “OH SHOOT I GTG” and then your house gets flooded
Your head right then: 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 YEAH IM DEAD!
If you were on the coast in a warning area and this played, you learned it was time to “de-ass the area with the quickness”, as I once heard it said on another show I watched back in that decade.
Hello Milton.
Crazy that almost 20 years later with Milton impending on Florida this is the music we still associate with hurricanes. Hope everyone stays safe!
They've been playing it all day today they usually play two of them and this is one of them that they've been playing usually in the 28 or 58 past every hour. They play the full thing too it doesn't cut off so its really nice that they've brought it back.
I remember hearing this song for Katrina. There is nothing like hearing "wind gusts may reach 150 MPH" and seeing New Orleans in panic after checking online.
Memories of Hurricane Katrina, Rita and Ike listening to this tune!
Paul H And Wilma
Wind gusts could reach 150 mph
2005 was a crazy ass year for Hurricanes!!!
Who’s here during Hurricane Laura? Reminiscent of Rita, which brought this song to mind.
I’m here after Hurricane Ida
Was here after Ida…always tuned
Ida is looking scary recently. Stay safe people of Louisiana.
Katrina 2.0 potentially
Music that is strangely beautiful and scary at the same time
yes
That's Stephen Arnold's work for ya.
Just like weather ☁️
That actually describes Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Wilma, Gustav, Ike, and so on perfectly
I love this music!
It appears to be time to listen to Eye of the Storm again. We have a similar Frances or Jeanne hurricane named Dorian heading towards Florida.
Folks, here we are yet again! This time thanks to our new friend Ian...
Let's just say THIS song got your attention if all the RED ALERTS didn't in hurricane zones! It became addicting to listen to after a while. It became forget the ALERTS chill with Armageddon outside, instead!!! lololol
BTW, the severity of the alert directly related to the length of the music. If you got to 0:55, it was a RED ALERT - TORNADO WATCH - FLASH FLOODING all in one. If it got past 1:30, it was SEEK SHELTER NOW!
damn that was intresting
I went past 0:55, before I was TERRIFIED
"A (Inland) Hurricane Warning, A Hurricane Warning, A Tornado Watch and A Flash Flood Watch have been issued for our area by the National Weather Service"-so says the Local on the 8s Voice during Katrina."
Have not seen it yet. Can you show me the link to that video?
A (INLAND) HURRICANE WARNING, A HURRICANE WARNING, A TORNADO WARNING, A TORNADO WATCH, A FLASH FLOOD WARNING, A FLASH FLOOD WATCH, AN EXTREME WIND WARNING, AN EARTHQUAKE WARNING, A VOLCANO WARNING, AND A NATIONAL EMERGENCY MESSAGE HAVE ALL BEEN ISSUED FOR OUR AREA BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE, THE UNITED STATES GEOLOGICAL SURVEY, AND THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT. NORTH KOREAN MISSILE TO IMPACT LOCAL AREA IN 30 TO 60 MINUTES. SEEK A FALLOUT SHELTER IMMEDIATELY!
Ok

Hopefully everyone in Harvey's Path will be safe! Good Luck and Godspeed to them. They are expecting this storm to be unprecedented for that part of Texas.. 😞
Same now with Irma.
I was in the path of Harvey and I got about 4 feet of water in our house in Vidor Texas
I hope everyone in the way of Barry is ok!
@@phioneplatinum and now Dorian
What’s next, Sally in 2020? Btw that is one of the names for next year - or Fay, or Isaias, or Gonzalo, again.
It's time! Hurricane Helene heading for the Big Bend of Florida and then wind and flooding into Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.
We lost power for around 8 hours that day
Now Here comes Milton
Playing this as Hurricane Ida approaches Louisiana. This thing is RI'ing and has blossomed into a monster.
It indeed was a monster.......for Louisiana. It did some damage with the tornadoes it spawned in the NE too.
no I will played the 2017 one
@@Gliw0306 cool?
I can't stop watching this it’s like I’m addicted
Edit: Bring this music back please TWC without this my life is practically meaningless. WHY DID YOU REMOVE THIS?!
Playing this as Dorian takes aim at Florida, this could be bad. REALLY BAD.
Watching TS Isaias. Praying it stays a TS and moves quickly.
it wasn't really that bad for florida tbh, kinda messed up NC's outerbanks with some tornados before heading out to sea,
@@jaysonz5137 We got insanely lucky, it was a weakness in the blocking ridge..
See, this is why Stephen Arnold Music is the best. We can thank KXAS that they brought him in with open arms. If it weren't for that, this and many of his workpieces wouldn't have existed.
I love this music. Stephen Arnold thanks so much for bringing this epic song too life!!!!!!!! :D
^^^^^^^ THIS
Did not expect you here.
Milton looks like it could get really bad for Tampa
The way it looks right now is insane!! That strength is something else
Luckily I got to hear it 3 times in 3 months from central north Texas so I could dance without being slambasted by a hurricane.
I turned the lights off in the basement (especially the night before Katrina and Rita) and had my big screen on the Weather channel loud and clear all night while I danced and jumped. It was amazingly epic. I haven't had a more enjoyable night since.
It's my #1 favorite song of all time. I hope there's a major hurricane this year in US so they can play it again!
I love this song. I wish we had it for Sandy and Irene. All the other states including all the Gulf Coast states experience a hurricane that this song was played for. They need to bring this song back.
Caleb Harper YES
Even though I've been reading that this local on the 8s theme was put on the first time back in 2004 for hurricane Ivan, the first time I heard it was definitely the same day (I think Sunday August 28, 2005) when TWC first went into storm alert mode on television with Katrina as it was getting close to New Orleans. And this major hurricane pretty much proved to be what this theme sounds like. I remember (here on the western gulf coast) the temp pushed 100+ F degrees here that afternoon and definitely outer effects of Katrina's big circulation over and around the Gulf of Mexico that day.
The music already gives me nostalgia now and definitely something I'll always remember hearing when watching the 2000s TWC back then. The last time I ever heard it on that channel was when they went into storm alert mode for Ike back in September 2008, and I live not very far southwest of where this hurricane came onshore. But I really thought this hurricane was gonna hit where I live.
Man I wish there was this music for Hurricane Harvey because this has lived up to the billing of a catastrophic hurricane so far.
Ah the nostalgia of hearing this while watching Hurricane Ida approach.
16 years ago today this was playing and now if it were still those graphics this would be playing today
This should the COVID 19 theme, everyone stay health and safe out there! Love this was iTunes! I'd buy this in a heartbeat!
SuperDuckman24 Haha why buy it? Just UA-cam to MP3 it! 😊
Shit’s about to go down when you hear this on The Weather Channel!
The large doughnut of doom.
made out of clouds and rain
That’s one donut I do not want to eat!
If im not mistaken, that doughnut is hurricane katrina
the new decade sent me here. still one of the greatest storm alert songs on the weather channel.
Bring this music back @weatherchannel #Arthur
They play this during the local forecasts when a hurricane is close to the U.S., if earl gets close you'll probably hear this, it's a great piece of music.
Sigh, I remember getting up in the middle of the night and hearing this. It's just as good as the current one at least switch them around maybe every once in a while?
Right before we evacuate for Rita 2.0- I mean Laura.
Listening to this and watching Laura on animated radar 👍
Laura was stronger than her 2002 predecessor Lili
Here we go! Laura taking aim at Texas and Louisiana.
Listening to it on repeat and watching Laura on radar. 👍
I may have to say this but that eyewall headed straight at New Orleans is hurricane Katrina, Laura’s eyewall was straight at Cameron Louisiana.
Weather is an extraordinary thing indeed. Sometimes it is unpredictable. My mom was in Andrew. My cousin was in Katrina. Both caused severe damage, and before my cousin had evacuated, he sent me a video. It was about 7 or so hours before Katrina made landfall. It was the Weather Channel Local on the 8s. Listening to this song again, it made me feel scared like I did back in 2005. It really gives a sense of urgency.
This was the last great thing I liked about The Weather Channel. I was hooked on it during the 1990s, but I gradually lost interest by the turn of the 21st Century. But, when I heard this soundtrack, I really enjoyed it. That's why I gave this video a like and said it was the last great thing I liked about TWC. Once this soundtrack stopped playing, that was pretty much it for me.
Sure, I still occasionally watch TWC nowadays, but that's only when severe weather threatens and I need to know what's coming this way. But, I'm not hooked on TWC today as I once was about three decades earlier. I miss The Weather Channel from the 1990s a lot!
Just yesterday I was 8 years old watching The Weather Channel, fascinated as all hell and listening to this song blasting out a of mid-90s box television set. Who remembers the old WeatherSTAR XL Icons? Ugh, time is going too fast for me to process. Is it really 2017?
Ok, I gotta admit. The flashes in the video become annoying after a few seconds. Were you trying to make people have seizures when you put that in?
Playing this on repeat as hurricane Laura closes in on Louisiana this could be bad very very bad
Weather
Who's here during Beryl?
Here!
Reporting
Texas
Houston here
Living in Las Vegas, I didn't think I'd ever be able to play this song for real. And yet, here we are. *narrows my eyes at Hilary*
Hurricane Irma brought me here
Stay safe. What part of FL you in?
Naples, FL
me, orlando flordiaaaaa
Carlos Quintero I hope you're okay...the eyewall passed right over Naples
Damn. Someone sent me this video
Brings me back to 2004...
They need to bring this back. It's awesome and sums up storms just nicely.
NBC did away with Storm Alert when they took over in 2008. This song would have been perfect for Hurricane Sandy
Dumbest decision Mr. Peacock has ever made.
@@blatheringblathers347 SAM needs to be back. You know KLAF and WEVV, right? They have Stephen Arnold Music's packages. Entertainment Studios owns them. They also own TWC. They probably are making a deal now. Which means..........possible return of this masterpiece?
This theme was played 16 years ago and is the theme of today
Playing this on repeat as Irma takes aim at Florida. This one could be bad. Really bad.
And now along comes Maria...
And in comes Philippe
Norway Tracking and now no one
Norway Tracking You should join my amino.
Spoiler alert it was.
In the keys anyway.
I have been watching the Weather Channel all morning on Ike. This music is really good and really gets in your head. I love the storms that bring the music but not what the storm is doing to all those people out there.
Definitely gives you that sense of urgency. I miss this theme, come on Weather Channel, bring it back!
Hurricane Helene took a lot of damage In Western North Carolina where I live and now Hurricane Milton as about to strike central Florida.
Thought of this during Hurricane Ida
I always mute my tv every time local on the 8s comes on during storm alerts and then turn this on.
Florence took a huge punch where I live in North Carolina.
I'm getting hella flashbacks from my Florida childhood. Not good ones either, but TWC's themes are so well made!
This is lowkey a bop
I wanna write to the weather channel and tell them to bring this back. I wanna hear this on television
Who else is listening to this while watching Matthew?
Watching Harvey. 8/25/2017
simpsonfan13 I'm not alone lol. Greetings from Austin/Round Rock. Stay safe out there bro.
Lucky The Fox how is your property after the storm? I hope no damage occurred.
Now here comes Irma.
Matthew Miller Irma's pretty bad right now. Yep.
If only we saw this epic music for the likes of Matthew, Harvey, Irma, Maria, Florence, Michael, Dorian, Laura, Zeta, Ida, and Ian.
Yeah
Listening to this while Monitoring Hurricane Harvey, :P
same here.
Now why does this dude only have 600 subs? He deserves 10k at least for uploading this!
On a walk. Houston suburbs. Windy but pretty nice. Calm before the storm.
I wasn’t there, but I watched the video from TWC LOT8’s and the music is great! Wish it was brung back for like a special occasion or something. This is a masterpiece ❤❤❤
I wonder if they'll make a new weather alert theme now, seeing how the music seems very themed now. Anyways, they need more than just 2 or 3 songs on the LO8's... being able to predict the song 80% of the time isn't necessarily a good thing.
Hello Ian.
this song is so awesome
It’s Milton’s Time now!
the effects are what make this - the flash and zoom of the static hurricane - for some reason i find that strangely hilarious
Here comes Hurricane Harvey. Take cover Texas.
I KNOW.
Hurricane Lee 2023
Isaias?
WHERE'S THE METEOROLOGIST WHEN YOU NEED HIM!?
Sonic590 GT right?
who ur gonna call Jim Cantore!
Who's watching because of either Harvey or Irma?
They never played the song for Harvey.
Michael just got upgraded to a Category 5.
awesome song.... It's always eerie to hear the song while watching the on the 8's with a hurricane coming in because you see the effective area's forecast for rain and "windy" as if it was just any other day
I’ll never forget being 6 or 7 hearing this when Katrina came (being in Mississippi).
And it was the first time in my life I experienced genuine fear.
This shit was the bomb growing up. Weather Channel in mfukkin Hurricane Alert Mode!
Laura???
Michael hitting Panama City, FL with 155 mph winds. Wow!
I wish this was still the storm alert in 2020
Years ago, DW on PBS's weather forecast used to have a song similar to this.
I wish could find it.
I remember having this song drilled into my head when I stayed through Katrina (not in New Orleans though) before the power went out.
It's like you already felt like the apocalypse was coming...this epic music just further reinforced it.
Here comes potential Category 5 Ian in SW Florida!!
Tropical Storm Arthur??!!!
wish they played this for Durian. fits perfectly
You mean Dorian?
i used to watch the weather channel religiously as a kid and i remember hearing this theme all the time
it sounds like there's serious danger but soon it will be over
I agree with you, it's oddly reassuring
Coolguyiscool925 Does weather/gaming/more! Yeah, and South Carolina NEVER have a category 5!
@@officialhurricaneirma1529 But they got walloped by Hugo, which was a strong Cat 4
I'm addicted too this.
Even though they have played this during Storm Alert local forecasts during other storms (notably Gustav and Ike), I will always remembr this one as Katrina's theme. It's embedded in my mind forever, along with the sick feeling I had watching this monster barrel toward the Gulf coast that Sunday, as well as watching the recovery efforts those first few days afterward. It was all set to this LF tune.
This was when The Weather Channel was cool to watch.
The storm alert theme is only issued when a MAJOR hurricane is making landfall and the storm alert is issued. Not when a weak hurricane is threatening
Praying for everyone in Florence’s path!
Near the ending i swear I get goosebumps because that theme is very powerful
