Korea's music industry is different from the Western market. They embraced streaming music subs much earlier so there are services like Genie and BUGS. Think Spotify but where stream count matters. You buy a monthly pass and you put the music on repeat. The streaming totals contribute to a large portion of their music show score. In light of that, physical sales have adjusted accordingly. You as a fan do not buy just one album, thats what streaming is for. No, you buy multiple because in the albums, you have photo cards. A random photo card of one of the members, and if you don't get the member you want, you buy another physical album. And while you think, oh, you can just trade, nope. Cause if you are a super fan, the more albums you buy, the more likely you can attend the fansign. Physical sales are covered by Hanteo chart(tracks copies sold via authenticity serial number) or Gaon chart(total albums sold to retailers). To count towards Hanteo, you have to be a hanteo authorized distributor, and thats where entertainment companies let the distributors do the heavy lifting. If you buy it from a non-Hanteo distributor, it won't count towards the charts. If you want your group to win, you buy Hanteo. For winning, streaming Genie is the key to win on the 'major' shows. The other one, SBS' The Show (the one with the controversy) is a mix of youtube, music streaming and, physical sales. Its also the one that requires the artist to attend, something that big name artists generally don't. Its also cancelled due to COVID outbreak this week. Thusly, streaming Genie is the only route to a win this time around. Currently, BOCA is not even charting in the real time. In some ways, when you lay it all out, its insidious. As for the commentary about SuA's lines. Each member takes a crack at the entire song and LEEZ/Ollounder pick the best. While obviously you can't cut a member out of the entire song, its as close to a meritocracy as it gets. SuA's gotten a lot better at her control. Same with Gahyeon.
It is true but it could also lead to misinterpretations, in a way albums are more like collectibles and as such have a lot of "non essential content" in them for fans to have, because the thought is that if you want them to buy physical then you have to offer something different from the digital format. It doesn't mean that all buy it or that a lot buy multiple copies but it is true that most dedicated fans buy a couple or 400. There's a way to vote for groups and it wasn't assessed in the comment, it is true that it's just something between 10 and 15% of the total score but it's still something available to all fans everywhere. Every music show has a dedicated app where people can sign in and vote repeatedly and for free each day. If you go on Google and type vote for Korean music show or something you can find informations about it and there a good Reddit post explaining the process.

Regarding the albums, its why I separated Fans from Super Fans. You gotta be a fan to start with as who carries around a discman these days? Super Fans... well, you know which days a group held a fansign cause the day of the fansign, randomly, Hanteo will have nearly a thousand album sales after a straight week of double digit sales.

at the time minx was reforming to dreamcatcher, happyface still had dalshabet who was fairly successful but on their last legs. I think in part it was a calculated gamble since to scrap minx completely would be throwing away all the training investment. still it was a big gamble since putting out an album with an mv is not cheap and there have been plenty of groups that don't make it past their first release. for what it's worth, the ceo did say in an interview he saw the talent in the girls and believed they could pull off any concept.
Yeah, Yoohyeon has a really solid all-around voice. She could absolutely hold down a main vocal role. Siyeon is super stable in a live setting. And to me, her unique tone largely shapes the character of Dreamcatcher, whether it's belting or singing in head voice. So main vocal makes even more sense for her.

Rose Blue is the saddest song I’ve heard from Dreamcatcher. I still don’t understand why that is so given the melody but it really hits me differently. Their songs also have lyrics that catch you. I’ve cried to Over the Sky because if you’ve ever lost someone, this song’s lyrics are something that person you’re missing may actually say...July 7th is a story by itself...Then we have Scream and Boca where the lyrics make you think...Nightmare series had so much continuity that it really was like watching a story unfold. Dreamcatcher has set the standards so high. Whereas I can only listen to select songs of other artists, I can listen to Dreamcatcher’s whole discography 24/7.

Yea, now I think my bias is Yoohyeon. I really like her breathy-like singing pronounciation. Sorry that I'm not major in vocal but that's how I feel about her voice and that is certainly a unique feature that most people hunting for but not much people caught this type of ability.

I was expecting to pay much more for their online concert tickets TBH. They’re better than at least one of the Big 3 GGs. That being said , I am glad that they are with HFE as they’re given so much freedom and are really taken good care of. It’s now up to inSomnias to bridge that ‘popularity’ gap. It’s really not that hard to promote them because they consistently release great songs and the girls make you fall in love with them once you take the time to go through all the content they’ve released.
If you're interested with more music produced by Leez and Ollounder, you should try listening to Ateez. However, it's not just the two of them, Leez and Ollounder are a part of this group of producers called Edenary, along with two other guys. They produce for Ateez just like for Dreamcatcher, following a huge theme/concept of a series. Not just compose one song for an album. In a way,it's one of the ways to get more into how Leez and Ollounder's brain work, lol.

You definitely are right about Yoohyeon, whilst Siyeon is my personal bias and I think she has the voice of a goddess, I would say that they are almost equal when it comes to vocal ability. It just comes down to personal preference and I love the color of Siyeon's voice, but I fully acknowledge that Yoohyeon has a more palatable and well rounded tone that appeals to the masses, and she can sing circles around the main vocalists of most other groups. But for real from one die hard Insomnia to another, thank you, we need more influencers who will go to bat for these TALENTED WOMEN.
I have the debate between Siyeon and Yoohyeon a lot internally lol. The way I think of it is if you take your hand and raise it up, that's Siyeon, but if you push it out forward, that's Yoohyeon. Hard to express, I think you did a better job explaining it than me lol
When Handong left they had to give her parts to the others and Gahyeon benefited the most. It will be interesting to see how they deal with Handong coming back.
Have no idea how they’ll squeeze her in. Siyeon/Yoohyeon/Jiu won’t lose any lines as they are the go to chorus/pre-chorus/bridge vocal line, obvi Dami won’t lose any raps. I know you can download two apps, Starplay and Idol Champs, both are sites where you can vote for them for the shows. Essentially you watch ads or pay for points/coins which you can use to vote when the girls are up for top 3/winning. Streaming the music and the MV help with this as well as the voting. Others will tell you a bunch of rules for streaming, but I'll make it simple: stream several times a day, just not necessarily several times in a row; please enjoy the music genuinely 💕 Kpopmart, yesasia, and kpopmall all sell physical copies of the album. I pay for a subscription, but Apple Music for Android had the album available on release. I don't use anything else for my music, so I can't say for those.

Paul, I bought it on iTunes. I typed Dreamcatcher into the search bar and it has all of their albums, both Korean and Japanese albums. And I also bought the physical cd, the “S” version on Amazon.
DC's fansite 7Dreamers (twitter) has detailed guides on how to support the girls towards their first win. Unfortunately, the timing for this comeback is not the most advantageous for a win as the best opportunity they had (The Show) was canceled due to the pandemic. Digital album sales may not count towards Hanteo sales numbers... I would suggest just buying the physical album (Ver S in particular). It's very shiny and has a 180 page booklet of images from all their photoshoots for this comeback.
everyone already answered all questions you had from what i'm seeing (about buying the album and the company) and someone else already mentioned that happyface had dalshabet when minx debuted, but they also now have d1ce. however they have a separate sub-label d1ce entertainment just like dreamcatcher has dreamcatcher company and i think it helps them take a good care of both groups? so there's a whole team of people only focusing on dreamcatcher and on them only? that's just how i understand it tho, but it's quite nice to see a company not treat their girl group worse especially after debuting a boy group, since it unfortunately seems kind of common in the industry i would love an interview with leez and ollounder, maybe similar to those they posted on reacttothek a few times with some producers of red velvet songs for example. they interviewed dreamcatcher as well so it's a possibility in the future i think. for now tho if you haven't yet you should check out the channel official LEEZ, he uploaded a few demos and remixes there (there's a "mayday in sleep-walking" one that i really loved) i really loved everything you had to say about the music and their vocals. i feel like on here so many people upload their reactions with titles such as "producer/dancer/musician/etc reacts" and then don't actually provide any interesting information, but your videos always teach me a lot so i appreciate them a lot! have you seen siyeon's cover of overdose by exo? it's a rock cover of an originally hip hop song (i believe leez and ollounder made it into a rock version and i heard siyeon took part in it, but i honestly am not sure) and it's a live performance so i think it would be pretty interesting to hear your thoughts on it as well, from the point of view of someone with a music degree this time instead of movie director! and speaking of that.. since you reacted to red velvet a few times. i'd love it if you ever reacted to some live performance by them and if you have any thoughts on seulgi's voice in particular. i know people always focus on wendy as the main vocalist, but while seulgi is a main dancer i think she's just such a good vocalist and has this unique color to her voice (for live performances i'd recommend "bangta x red velvet, a collaboration full of sorrow ‘doll’" and their immortal songs performance and also seulgi's "you, just like that"). anyyyyways back to dreamcatcher i agree with what you said about jiu's song sounding so very her! and they really are pushing gahyeon now, i love it. i hope when handong comes back they push her more as well. she has a pretty unique and beautiful voice as well and i'm actually pretty excited to see which lines from those songs she will get.. they talked in the past about how they all sing/rap the entire song and then choose who sounds the best singing which line and that's how they go about line distribution
Oh yes Paul you point out something important, the word "melodic", the fact that Break The Wall hits us hard it's because the melody in the chorus is amazing, and you point out that Scream & Boca doing a instrumental chorus their melody is a bit flat tbh, they're intense, hype, hard, but we can't feel that much compared with BTW, personally I hope they can create more lovely notes in their upcoming title songs. I bought it on Qobuz digitally. I also got both physical versions since they're actually a pretty cool thing to have with all the little extras you get as well as the album. I know Amazon sells the D version and kpop art or ktown you can get the S version if you're interested in the little cards posters and photo books at all.
Yoohyeon's my bias. lol I'm so happy to see her getting appreciation for her vocals. I love all their vocals, but for me, Yoohyeon's vocals are my favourite.
I looked up how to vote and found "A Complete Guide to Music Show Voting" on reddit. Not sure if this is still current, but as a base-line, it's probably better than looking through Twitter for music show fans. I usually buy through G-Market or YesAsia. The shipping takes a while, but you can choose which versions of the album you want, or sets, posters, etc. There are little shops in Downtown LA, but for me, it's a lot of work for unknown payoff.
20:21 be very careful when going for color coded videos as there's channel that illegally make money with these videos. It's a very complicated system sometimes (at least for me) but they find a way to go around copyright protections and lucrate on others' (idols and companies) work. I changed my way too and I'm now going for the official videos posted on artists' channels or if really needed looking for little fan channels that should not be there to make money.

Sorry for all the comments, making them as i watch- JYPE specifically has started developing teams that are group specific. It started with twice, and that’s why they have so many activities. They have an entire team who only deals with twice. They have done that with all of their groups since twice. A lot of big companies are slowly following!

Actually Happyface in the whole time even in the begining to their company had 3 groups "Dalshabed" "Dreamcatcher" ""D1CE", dalshabed was girlgroup but unfortunately they dissbanded in 2010's now they have only Dreamcatcher and D1CE

DC physical albums can be purchased from any major kpop selling sites like ktown4u, for example. As for winning shows - well, i was actually quite surprised that girls expressed their strong will for the win. They are not likely to get wins with this comeback or any other comeback with big-3 (and many other) groups around. That's how kpop and popularity works, and by no stretch it means they dont deserve it. Not getting a statuette which stands for some sort of achievement (i am not willing to touch subjects of manipulating factors determining these "wins") would upset the girls but it really shouldn't. Sadly they live in a bubble where such "win" is supposed to be a statement for some sort of success, but they need to understand that not having one doesnt mean they are not good enough. I can hope they can escape that mental prison and not get influenced by it to the point when it starts corrupting the mind. The greatest win for everyone is that they make great music, which they've been doing from the get-go. Props to them and the company which still keeps on course, though the shift in past year was quite noticeable. Being a genre (imo they've basically become one) is much more than getting some symbol of marketing success. Having said that - they have many things they need to work and improve on, but thats not a subject of this discussion.
While it IS going to be difficult, it is not entirely impossible. The Big 3 have the numbers for now but don’t discount the determination of the inSomnias, plus the fan base has started growing exponentially during Scream era. We actually beat Red Velvet in Soribada in the popularity contest for a whole week! That’s a big thing considering that inSomnia is less than 10% of Reveluv fan base. I agree that First Win does not determine the talent but understand that it does matter in the kpop industry. We need to understand the culture to understand why this is a big deal for the girls. Now, First Win is heavily dependent on how much work the fan base does during the comebacks. I would like Dreamcatcher to continue well beyond their 7 yr contract and if the first win is what we need then it’s what we need to do. I want them to continue producing songs. There is no one else in kpop that has their sound and concept.

They're basically the hub for all international fan activity, they explain how and where to stream and what else you can do. The short, free & simple: Stream Boca naturally on youtube (not on a loop, not with a script), and leave a non spammy comment every day. About buying the album: From what I've gathered so far, Kpop is a strange beast when it comes to that. Of course streaming is the default for listening to the music, but IF you wanna buy the album, you buy the hardcopy. Those are aimed 100% at collectors, with various versions you can buy, thick booklets, photo cards and all sorts of gimmicks. You don't buy the album for the CD, you buy it to invest the money.
"Any of these girls would be the main singer of another group" I cant agree with that statement any more. I'm a more recent fan of Kpop and Dreamcatcher in general, but to me there is just SO MUCH TALENT with this group it blows my mind that they haven't gotten a win yet. I'll admit that being a new fan I don't understand how all of those things happen and I'm not blind to the fact that like in any industry there may or may not be behind the scenes type of things going on when someone isn't conforming. If/when their contract is up and Dreamcatcher is no more, I can see each one of these girls adding to any other group or even having successful solo careers.

It's very true that there's no link to digital stores nor to the store for the company. I also tried going to the site of Happyface Ent. to check their store but I wasn't able to reach it, maybe there were connection problems. Happyface is a small company and seems to be a really naive one since Dreamcatcher's YT channel doesn't even post in the community section for advertising or to share infos with fans. I bet they just use IG or FB or vLive for that but wouldn't hurt to take 5 minutes to do it where Dreamcatcher actually showcase their talent. I have to say that I went on iTunes and found this mini album on it tho so it should be available for purchase.
DCC is most active on Twitter, IG, and VLive. Their albums can be found on most places where you order kpop albums (MMT, KTown4U, Amazon, etc). Digital albums are also available on Spotify and Apple Music. A quick google search will give most results. You won't find anything on the HFE website as they basically no longer exist (more info on r/dreamcatcher). For news on Dreamcatcher in English, their fansite 7Dreamers is the best place for the most uptodate info. As you said, DCC is a small company. They don't have enough resources to cover all bases. Honestly, if people want to support them, it's not much harder to Google it.
Their marketing team really has to get on it. For die hard fans, they’ll search and buy - for newbies, losing the impulse buy means a lot of lost sales
Happyface actually had a group called dalshabet their deal was more 90's music or the more sexy type and dreamcarcher's members without handong and gayheon were in a group called minx ...made one song i think lololol
You can use amazon, yesasia, ktown4u and kpoptown and gmarket! I heard these are best for asia, japan and korean goods. Personally I would go with yesasia because it has the best reviews but I believe it still depends on preference. Digital albums will be on Korean platforms.

Hey Paul! I really like your reaction videos and especially the insight you give about the more technical aspects of music. I don't always get the terminology as I'm not musically literate myself, though I appreciate you take the time to explain some of the terms you use. One thing I would like to hear your opinion about though, is the fact that you tend to pause the video a lot during a reaction. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing as it's needed to point out the things you do, but I know other people can be bothered by it. As far as I know, DC only sells physical albums which you can buy from online (ktwon4u, kpopusaonline, amazon. The first two should count towards albums sales on Korean charts). You can buy the album digitally on iTunes, but what I’ve done in the past is gone to Japanese Amazon, and bought the album digitally through them to get it to count on asian charts

D1CE is also under happyface and sadly they do get pushed aside a lot. it took 10-11 months before they had their first cb (debuted in august 2019 and finally had a cb in june 2020). this can be a death sentence for a rookie group from a non-big company honestly happyface doesnt have a good track record when it comes to managing two groups at a time. that’s one of the reasons why MINX flopped (they focused more on their other act Dalshabet). when dc debuted, they then started neglecting dalshabet

This channel and one other channel that provide reaction with classical musician (forget her name) are most knowledgeable reaction i've ever watch. They are providing a lot of information and opinion as professional. I'm really enjoying when people with knowledge talking about their field. There are lot of reactions out there that coming from non-professional, but still enjoyable when they are giving their opinion about the concept or music. But like you said, there are lot of fake reactions, who talk about something not related to the song, when the video title is reaction to the song.

Korea's music industry is different from the Western market. They embraced streaming music subs much earlier so there are services like Genie and BUGS. Think Spotify but where stream count matters. You buy a monthly pass and you put the music on repeat. The streaming totals contribute to a large portion of their music show score.
In light of that, physical sales have adjusted accordingly. You as a fan do not buy just one album, thats what streaming is for. No, you buy multiple because in the albums, you have photo cards. A random photo card of one of the members, and if you don't get the member you want, you buy another physical album. And while you think, oh, you can just trade, nope. Cause if you are a super fan, the more albums you buy, the more likely you can attend the fansign. Physical sales are covered by Hanteo chart(tracks copies sold via authenticity serial number) or Gaon chart(total albums sold to retailers). To count towards Hanteo, you have to be a hanteo authorized distributor, and thats where entertainment companies let the distributors do the heavy lifting. If you buy it from a non-Hanteo distributor, it won't count towards the charts. If you want your group to win, you buy Hanteo.
For winning, streaming Genie is the key to win on the 'major' shows. The other one, SBS' The Show (the one with the controversy) is a mix of youtube, music streaming and, physical sales. Its also the one that requires the artist to attend, something that big name artists generally don't. Its also cancelled due to COVID outbreak this week. Thusly, streaming Genie is the only route to a win this time around. Currently, BOCA is not even charting in the real time.
In some ways, when you lay it all out, its insidious.
As for the commentary about SuA's lines. Each member takes a crack at the entire song and LEEZ/Ollounder pick the best. While obviously you can't cut a member out of the entire song, its as close to a meritocracy as it gets. SuA's gotten a lot better at her control. Same with Gahyeon.

It is true but it could also lead to misinterpretations, in a way albums are more like collectibles and as such have a lot of "non essential content" in them for fans to have, because the thought is that if you want them to buy physical then you have to offer something different from the digital format. It doesn't mean that all buy it or that a lot buy multiple copies but it is true that most dedicated fans buy a couple or 400. There's a way to vote for groups and it wasn't assessed in the comment, it is true that it's just something between 10 and 15% of the total score but it's still something available to all fans everywhere. Every music show has a dedicated app where people can sign in and vote repeatedly and for free each day. If you go on Google and type vote for Korean music show or something you can find informations about it and there a good Reddit post explaining the process.

Regarding the albums, its why I separated Fans from Super Fans. You gotta be a fan to start with as who carries around a discman these days? Also, international fans only option for physical albums is a music importer which charge ridiculous for shipping. Super Fans... well, you know which days a group held a fansign cause the day of the fansign, randomly, Hanteo will have nearly a thousand album sales after a straight week of double digit sales.

at the time minx was reforming to dreamcatcher, happyface still had dalshabet who was fairly successful but on their last legs. I think in part it was a calculated gamble since to scrap minx completely would be throwing away all the training investment. still it was a big gamble since putting out an album with an mv is not cheap and there have been plenty of groups that don't make it past their first release. for what it's worth, the ceo did say in an interview he saw the talent in the girls and believed they could pull off any concept.
Yeah, Yoohyeon has a really solid all-around voice. She could absolutely hold down a main vocal role.
Siyeon is super stable in a live setting. And to me, her unique tone largely shapes the character of Dreamcatcher, whether it's belting or singing in head voice. So main vocal makes even more sense for her.

Rose Blue is the saddest song I’ve heard from Dreamcatcher. I still don’t understand why that is so given the melody but it really hits me differently.
Their songs also have lyrics that catch you. I’ve cried to Over the Sky because if you’ve ever lost someone, this song’s lyrics are something that person you’re missing may actually say...July 7th is a story by itself...Then we have Scream and Boca where the lyrics make you think...Nightmare series had so much continuity that it really was like watching a story unfold.
Dreamcatcher has set the standards so high. Whereas I can only listen to select songs of other artists, I can listen to Dreamcatcher’s whole discography 24/7.
If y'all haven't yet, I advise that you guys listen to Break the Wall with lyrics on hand (and a translation of it, if you don't understand Korean). It's a powerful song with an equally compelling message - of hope, unity, and change. It's the perfect battle song for these trying times.
You mentioned Sua's range, here's a link to an interview they did where they had a competition for who could hit the highest notes. Siyeon told the camera "you think it would be me but it's actually Sua!" And sure enough Sua won the competition, but also surprisingly second place went to Dami. Yes...Dami. The way Kpop works is so different from how the rest of the world relates with the music industry. The first win concept revolves on proving that the group has been able to establish a strong fan base, much like a popularity contest. Mechanics of getting that First Win relies heavily on the determination and size of the fandom. Dreamcatcher has a really dedicated fan base which has grown exponentially since Scream came out, thanks in part to these kind of YT reactions.

I was expecting to pay much more for their online concert tickets TBH. They’re better than at least one of the Big 3 GGs. That being said , I am glad that they are with HFE as they’re given so much freedom and are really taken good care of. It’s now up to inSomnias to bridge that ‘popularity’ gap.
It’s really not that hard to promote them because they consistently release great songs and the girls make you fall in love with them once you take the time to go through all the content they’ve released.
If you're interested with more music produced by Leez and Ollounder, you should try listening to Ateez. However, it's not just the two of them, Leez and Ollounder are a part of this group of producers called Edenary, along with two other guys. They produce for Ateez just like for Dreamcatcher, following a huge theme/concept of a series. Not just compose one song for an album. In a way,it's one of the ways to get more into how Leez and Ollounder's brain work, lol.

You definitely are right about Yoohyeon, whilst Siyeon is my personal bias and I think she has the voice of a goddess, I would say that they are almost equal when it comes to vocal ability. It just comes down to personal preference and I love the color of Siyeon's voice, but I fully acknowledge that Yoohyeon has a more palatable and well rounded tone that appeals to the masses, and she can sing circles around the main vocalists of most other groups.
But for real from one die hard Insomnia to another, thank you, we need more influencers who will go to bat for these TALENTED WOMEN.
I have the debate between Siyeon and Yoohyeon a lot internally lol. The way I think of it is if you take your hand and raise it up, that's Siyeon, but if you push it out forward, that's Yoohyeon. Hard to express, I think you did a better job explaining it than me lol

Have no idea how they’ll squeeze her in. Siyeon/Yoohyeon/Jiu won’t lose any lines as they are the go to chorus/pre-chorus/bridge vocal line, obvi Dami won’t lose any raps. And with the emergence of Sua’s singing and the popularity of Gahyeon, it’s hard to see where they’ll fit her back in - especially with this new fanbase who have come in post-Handong. Tough

Essentially you watch ads or pay for points/coins which you can use to vote when the girls are up for top 3/winning. Streaming the music and the MV help with this as well as the voting. Others will tell you a bunch of rules for streaming, but I'll make it simple: stream several times a day, just not necessarily several times in a row; please enjoy the music genuinely 💕

- If the pandemic didn't grow so fast like now,they would had a world tour.
- Leez and Ollounder are geniuses as you said,but a song can be good not only by its composer,but also its singer. That's why they're so many covers being liked more than the originals.
- Break the wall is Siyeon's fav,and we too,ofc ^^

Paul, I bought it on iTunes. I typed Dreamcatcher into the search bar and it has all of their albums, both Korean and Japanese albums. And I also bought the physical cd, the “S” version on Amazon.
DC's fansite 7Dreamers (twitter) has detailed guides on how to support the girls towards their first win. Unfortunately, the timing for this comeback is not the most advantageous for a win as the best opportunity they had (The Show) was canceled due to the pandemic. Digital album sales may not count towards Hanteo sales numbers... I would suggest just buying the physical album (Ver S in particular). It's very shiny and has a 180 page booklet of images from all their photoshoots for this comeback.

everyone already answered all questions you had from what i'm seeing (about buying the album and the company) and someone else already mentioned that happyface had dalshabet when minx debuted, but they also now have d1ce. however they have a separate sub-label d1ce entertainment just like dreamcatcher has dreamcatcher company and i think it helps them take a good care of both groups? so there's a whole team of people only focusing on dreamcatcher and on them only? that's just how i understand it tho, but it's quite nice to see a company not treat their girl group worse especially after debuting a boy group, since it unfortunately seems kind of common in the industry
i would love an interview with leez and ollounder, maybe similar to those they posted on reacttothek a few times with some producers of red velvet songs for example. they interviewed dreamcatcher as well so it's a possibility in the future i think. for now tho if you haven't yet you should check out the channel official LEEZ, he uploaded a few demos and remixes there (there's a "mayday in sleep-walking" one that i really loved)
i really loved everything you had to say about the music and their vocals. i feel like on here so many people upload their reactions with titles such as "producer/dancer/musician/etc reacts" and then don't actually provide any interesting information, but your videos always teach me a lot so i appreciate them a lot! have you seen siyeon's cover of overdose by exo? it's a rock cover of an originally hip hop song (i believe leez and ollounder made it into a rock version and i heard siyeon took part in it, but i honestly am not sure) and it's a live performance so i think it would be pretty interesting to hear your thoughts on it as well, from the point of view of someone with a music degree this time instead of movie director! and speaking of that.. since you reacted to red velvet a few times. i'd love it if you ever reacted to some live performance by them and if you have any thoughts on seulgi's voice in particular. i know people always focus on wendy as the main vocalist, but while seulgi is a main dancer i think she's just such a good vocalist and has this unique color to her voice (for live performances i'd recommend "bangta x red velvet, a collaboration full of sorrow ‘doll’" and their immortal songs performance and also seulgi's "you, just like that"). anyyyyways back to dreamcatcher i agree with what you said about jiu's song sounding so very her! and they really are pushing gahyeon now, i love it. i hope when handong comes back they push her more as well. she has a pretty unique and beautiful voice as well and i'm actually pretty excited to see which lines from those songs she will get.. they talked in the past about how they all sing/rap the entire song and then choose who sounds the best singing which line and that's how they go about line distribution
Oh yes Paul you point out something important, the word "melodic", the fact that Break The Wall hits us hard it's because the melody in the chorus is amazing, and you point out that Scream & Boca doing a instrumental chorus their melody is a bit flat tbh, they're intense, hype, hard, but we can't feel that much compared with BTW, personally I hope they can create more lovely notes in their upcoming title songs. I know Amazon sells the D version and kpop art or ktown you can get the S version if you're interested in the little cards posters and photo books at all.

I looked up how to vote and found "A Complete Guide to Music Show Voting" on reddit. Not sure if this is still current, but as a base-line, it's probably better than looking through Twitter for music show fans.
I usually buy through G-Market or YesAsia. The shipping takes a while, but you can choose which versions of the album you want, or sets, posters, etc. There are little shops in Downtown LA, but for me, it's a lot of work for unknown payoff.
20:21 be very careful when going for color coded videos as there's channel that illegally make money with these videos. It's a very complicated system sometimes (at least for me) but they find a way to go around copyright protections and lucrate on others' (idols and companies) work. I changed my way too and I'm now going for the official videos posted on artists' channels or if really needed looking for little fan channels that should not be there to make money.
I never thought about that or read anything about it anywhere. Do you have a source for that? Not doubting you, coz it kinda makes sense, but I'd love more background info if available.

Sorry for all the comments, making them as i watch- JYPE specifically has started developing teams that are group specific. It started with twice, and that’s why they have so many activities. They have an entire team who only deals with twice. They have done that with all of their groups since twice. A lot of big companies are slowly following!

You can buy it on Ktown4u or MMT or even their official website to get Dreamcatcher their first win we have to stream on UA-cam, Genie and Bugs and we also have to vote for them on whosfan, idol champ, mubeat, star play and mwave. Actually Happyface in the whole time even in the begining to their company had 3 groups "Dalshabed" "Dreamcatcher" ""D1CE", dalshabed was girlgroup but unfortunately they dissbanded in 2010's now they have only Dreamcatcher and D1CE
For someone who originally loved bands and live instrumentals, I really like DC's sound and I really hope they get a live band (rumors of an ALL GIRLl band holy****) cause that would put them on a bracket of their own that's not necessarily kpop nor governed by these kpop standards that doesnt really give the credit for their kind of music

DC physical albums can be purchased from any major kpop selling sites like ktown4u, for example.
As for winning shows - well, i was actually quite surprised that girls expressed their strong will for the win. They are not likely to get wins with this comeback or any other comeback with big-3 (and many other) groups around. That's how kpop and popularity works, and by no stretch it means they dont deserve it.
Not getting a statuette which stands for some sort of achievement (i am not willing to touch subjects of manipulating factors determining these "wins") would upset the girls but it really shouldn't. Sadly they live in a bubble where such "win" is supposed to be a statement for some sort of success, but they need to understand that not having one doesnt mean they are not good enough. I can hope they can escape that mental prison and not get influenced by it to the point when it starts corrupting the mind.
The greatest win for everyone is that they make great music, which they've been doing from the get-go. Props to them and the company which still keeps on course, though the shift in past year was quite noticeable. Being a genre (imo they've basically become one) is much more than getting some symbol of marketing success.
Having said that - they have many things they need to work and improve on, but thats not a subject of this discussion.
While it IS going to be difficult, it is not entirely impossible. The Big 3 have the numbers for now but don’t discount the determination of the inSomnias, plus the fan base has started growing exponentially during Scream era. We actually beat Red Velvet in Soribada in the popularity contest for a whole week! That’s a big thing considering that inSomnia is less than 10% of Reveluv fan base.
I agree that First Win does not determine the talent but understand that it does matter in the kpop industry. We need to understand the culture to understand why this is a big deal for the girls. Now, First Win is heavily dependent on how much work the fan base does during the comebacks. I would like Dreamcatcher to continue well beyond their 7 yr contract and if the first win is what we need then it’s what we need to do. I want them to continue producing songs. There is no one else in kpop that has their sound and concept.

About buying the album: From what I've gathered so far, Kpop is a strange beast when it comes to that. Of course streaming is the default for listening to the music, but IF you wanna buy the album, you buy the hardcopy. Those are aimed 100% at collectors, with various versions you can buy, thick booklets, photo cards and all sorts of gimmicks. You don't buy the album for the CD, you buy it to invest the money.
"Any of these girls would be the main singer of another group" I cant agree with that statement any more. I'm a more recent fan of Kpop and Dreamcatcher in general, but to me there is just SO MUCH TALENT with this group it blows my mind that they haven't gotten a win yet. I'll admit that being a new fan I don't understand how all of those things happen and I'm not blind to the fact that like in any industry there may or may not be behind the scenes type of things going on when someone isn't conforming. If/when their contract is up and Dreamcatcher is no more, I can see each one of these girls adding to any other group or even having successful solo careers.
I still don’t totally get how all the show wins work - it seems complicated and able to be nerfed. Dreamcatcher has worked so hard and dang - each one took a main vocal chorus and killed it

It's very true that there's no link to digital stores nor to the store for the company. I also tried going to the site of Happyface Ent. to check their store but I wasn't able to reach it, maybe there were connection problems. Happyface is a small company and seems to be a really naive one since Dreamcatcher's YT channel doesn't even post in the community section for advertising or to share infos with fans. I bet they just use IG or FB or vLive for that but wouldn't hurt to take 5 minutes to do it where Dreamcatcher actually showcase their talent. I have to say that I went on iTunes and found this mini album on it tho so it should be available for purchase.
DCC is most active on Twitter, IG, and VLive. Their albums can be found on most places where you order kpop albums (MMT, KTown4U, Amazon, etc). Digital albums are also available on Spotify and Apple Music. A quick google search will give most results. You won't find anything on the HFE website as they basically no longer exist (more info on r/dreamcatcher). For news on Dreamcatcher in English, their fansite 7Dreamers is the best place for the most uptodate info. As you said, DCC is a small company. They don't have enough resources to cover all bases. Honestly, if people want to support them, it's not much harder to Google it.
Their marketing team really has to get on it. For die hard fans, they’ll search and buy - for newbies, losing the impulse buy means a lot of lost sales

Happyface actually had a group called dalshabet their deal was more 90's music or the more sexy type and dreamcarcher's members without handong and gayheon were in a group called minx ...made one song i think lololol

Minx 's mini album 'Love Shake' is actually Dalshabet 's song but they remake it.
You can use amazon, yesasia, ktown4u and kpoptown and gmarket! I heard these are best for asia, japan and korean goods. Personally I would go with yesasia because it has the best reviews but I believe it still depends on preference.

Hey Paul! I really like your reaction videos and especially the insight you give about the more technical aspects of music. I don't always get the terminology as I'm not musically literate myself, though I appreciate you take the time to explain some of the terms you use. One thing I would like to hear your opinion about though, is the fact that you tend to pause the video a lot during a reaction. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing as it's needed to point out the things you do, but I know other people can be bothered by it. An other UA-cam reactor I watch, solves this by giving their initial reaction first without pausing and after that diving deeper like the way you do. I'm wondering how you think about this format.
Also, as I see you're a fan of Dreamcatcher I wondered whether you've seen their dance cover of Brown Eyed Girls' 'Abracadabra'! I'm not sure whether you're much into choreography and whether it's interesting to react to from a film director's POV but it's definitely worth checking out (Insomnias who have already seen it know what I mean lol). As far as I know, DC only sells physical albums which you can buy from online (ktwon4u, kpopusaonline, amazon. The first two should count towards albums sales on Korean charts). They have Dalshabet and D1CE before Dreamcatcher I think, or was D1CE after DC? Not sure, but Dalshabet is Happy Face's first group.
D1CE is also under happyface and sadly they do get pushed aside a lot. it took 10-11 months before they had their first cb (debuted in august 2019 and finally had a cb in june 2020). this can be a death sentence for a rookie group from a non-big company
honestly happyface doesnt have a good track record when it comes to managing two groups at a time. that’s one of the reasons why MINX flopped (they focused more on their other act Dalshabet). when dc debuted, they then started neglecting dalshabet

I don't see any links on their YT home page for purchasing music or merchandise. I also looked at FB, IG & Twitter and could not find purchasing links there either. Even their latest comeback BOCA MV is not featured on their YT homepage. You have to click "videos" to find it. Am I missing or overlooking something here? It's been a while since I was in business school, but the 4 P's of marketing mix is a basic core concept.

This channel and one other channel that provide reaction with classical musician (forget her name) are most knowledgeable reaction i've ever watch. They are providing a lot of information and opinion as professional. I'm really enjoying when people with knowledge talking about their field.
There are lot of reactions out there that coming from non-professional, but still enjoyable when they are giving their opinion about the concept or music. But like you said, there are lot of fake reactions, who talk about something not related to the song, when the video title is reaction to the song.
