  • Using a Caterpillar Dozer to Clear out some old logging roads. Lots of damaged and storm blown trees. Heavy trail erosion, and some spots that just seemed abandoned altogether. Check it out!

    Before retirement I really enjoyed working on trails in the woods and solving drainage problems, used to give a sense of creativity.

    love reclaiming trails like that. Can't imagine how long that would take by hand to clear some of that thick stuff. Nice work. That would be so much fun to be able to ride on trails again for the first time after being closed off.

    Impressive that you got through that without losing and or breaking something off the D4. With my luck it definitely would have turned out a lot worse. Nice trail.

    I smiled at you clearing off the leaves from the air intake. I t reminded me of, when , several years ago I was using my lawn tractor on a blowy dry day suddenly no power! lifted the bonnet (sorry hood) found a compressed layer of leaves and dry grass packed over the intake. Ran a lot better when cleared!!
    Nice trails and work. Glad the owner was stoked over the result.

    It's interesting to see forest clearing work without a protective cage. One can most likely get away with it for years, but a rogue tree can spring pole or act like a spear. Be careful out there.

    Jump start trick. Hook the positive to the battery from the booster pack and ground to the frame. You now send all the booster pack juice to the starter not into a weak or dead battery.

      I used to think that way too till you own them. First rain after you “rip up the trail” and half your top soul washes off the trail exposing rocks everywhere.

    Awesome job of clearing those trails with nothing getting broken on the dozer or you Captain.
    I imagine a couple of those ditch/creeks could use some pip with dirt on them to keep down the washouts would be a good idea but that's up to the property owner.

    we a littel over 500 acres worth of trails. lots of work each year keeping them open. love walking them.

      The biggest issue as you saw is keeping the branches cut back. Can't justify a articulating cuter for the loader. I just do it in sections every other year.

    To spend a day in the woods seems really great, but to get paid to spend a day in the woods is truely awsome Mike. Envey from me but being in someone elses private space is a true gift to receive.

    When i did towing and road service we had jumper cables made from heavy duty welding cable and a quick connect on the truck so we could jump start anything within 30’ of our truck. It seems to me that might be a good idea on the big green truck!

    Hey Mike, I’m not one to keyboard preach but I will try to put it to you easily. All those limbs and sticks that just miss your face when driving the trails and when you are pushing into trees, those will make a good day end bad. You don’t want to be a pirate like me!     I’m starting to think you like the dozen work! Can’t wait to see the backhoe project get started. Clint said it just needed some TLC (and a hydraulic pump…lol).     Can see why you would get lost in there, I would be the same !!!
    It is safe to say you can see where you have been and no hoses were abused, take that as a win !!! Did get a few scratches from the fall, pleased I was wearing my safety specs this time !! 🤭

    You will beginning to Work! But all Machine have Problem!! You must however the Repair that you can Work. Then You in a Wood clearing old Roads. A fight old Rotten Trees with the Caterpillar! OK You the Winner. Good Video from the Wilderness.
