This isn't the first time in history the Chinese have traded with Kenya. Nearly 600 years ago, Zhang He and his sailors arrived at Kenya and opened up at trade route. This was way before the Europeans arrived.

Excellent. Thank you for extending the effort to provide us with an original commentary on a crucial aspect of both African and Chinese convergence on the road forward into the 21st century. I plan on watching this several times to ensure I get the "narrative behind the story". The evolving issue of "China in Africa" is huge and possibly determinate in whether or not this planet makes it to the end of this century without a catastrophic collapse (the "drama" is all mine ;-).
Please - Do more ... Thanks!

I agree with the African estate agents that the Chinese building companies need to listen to the need of the African people e.g. the building specifications must build according to their customers' requirements & their traditions. Their customers should be the priority.

I am a retired ‘design technology teacher’. The subjects centre is human needs. At the moment following links on Chinese culture and world influence. My son works in China ,now 3 years. I encouraged that, believing in language and culture awareness as essential to world peace and progress. I found it amusing to see the result in the Kenyan kitchen of inadequate investigation of needs ! These mistakes happen the world over. We have a saying in my subject area ‘the person who never made any mistakes probably never made anything !” Thats how language capacity develops too ! The natural way. Trust that collectively we find solutions , and communication is essential to that process !

Very beautifully done!! You have all hit the nail on the head - _Inclusive_ . A world created naturally inclusive will prosper with minds, businesses, education, sharing our cultural backgrounds , etc... will generate prosperity. But a nation that practices _Exclusiveness_ will only bring turmoil and failure. May there be more prosperity and growth in the coming years! 💮

@6:43.. What she said is so true. The word she wrote, 'hao' {A woman with a child = Good}. Chinese classes could've been so much more interesting. I studied Mandarin in school for 10 years and very rarely do Chinese teachers explain how the Chinese characters came about.

    • @frankkayto6516

That's the African in her talking, she's not aware of it but she's just subconsciously relating it to the Ancient Egyptian Ankh symbol that represents Life because for her the woman and child are a symbol of life. She might also have been thinking about the Mary and Jesus child statue because Kenyans have been Christianized but even that was copied from the "Isis nursing Horus" Ancient Egyptian statue. This is just the beginning but the Chinese characters with its non western way of thinking will probably easily transition many Africans into adopting the Ancient Egyptian Medu Neter as a unifying language for the entire continent. This more than anything will have an impact far greater than China on the continent in the future.

We respect China very much, but we are not integrating it in our curriculum. I live in china and I’m happy with the development programs in Kenya, however, the Chinese media does not respect Africa as economic partners but views them as beneficiaries. We take loans from China and we pay those loans, chinese media does not tell people the truth about the high debts, as a result, chinese citizens don’t respect Africans in China because they think we are beggars with no rights.the future will judge you harshly if you don’t correct this.

    • @joethige
      @joethige 6 років тому +1

Jj Chen I do not dispute that. Kenya is however a struggling economy and mere numbers should not be misconstrued to mean we are capable of comfortably paying the heavy debt.
That’s not even the issue, do you watch cctv or CGTV? They never say it’s a debt. They say China is helping kenya. Smoothening the obvious burden on an overtaxed population

You helping by investing. Do prefer China not invest? Then you will bitch about nobody want to invest in Africa just. Africa should see what China offer as an opportunity if the deal can generate a return than is a good deal but you expect China to also garantee it. You tell me when there is a deal like that and I can tell you for sure it is a Ponzi scheme.

The loans are usually interest-free or low interest. What you pay with isnt the interest but political stance in international occasions.

Prof Ule Mse It is helping Kenya considering the internet rate is from 0% to 3%, which is lower than inflation if you know what it means economically. I’d happily borrow 22 billion from China with a 3% interest rate and consider it so much helpful. 😂

Nice documentary. I have to say, the last part of the documentary made me cringe somewhat. Cultural exchange is great, but the idea of well intentioned young people from China coming to Africa to "help" smacks of peace corps type patronizing. Like the business man in the interview said, China comes for business while the west comes for romance. China should stick to fair and mutually beneficial business and the cultural exchange will follow.

Those apartment complexes seem like a massive waste of money for the Kenyan government. Be interesting to see if they got filled and if more suitable apartments are being built now.
Nice to see that links are being forged between the two countries.

    It is an interesting topic.
And here is a sharing, taking into account a coin has two (2) sides.
    Housings have been classified into...
    a) Public (built by the government) and,
    b) Private.
So why some Property Agents have been successful, could be attributed to their "Thinking out of the Box", (owing to their education systems and exposures, etc.).
So what would be some of those Sales and Marketing strategies ?
    a) Living in a new Lifestyles
    b) Swimming pools, and Sports facilities, like Tennis/Badminton courts, BBQ pits, carparks, etc.
    c) Security. Registration of Guests Entry at the Guard House, etc.
Private housing furnishings have also taken into consideration children in the family, and the latest high-tech household appliances available.
In the past, most private housings are sold unfurnished. But the trends have since changed.
And as international trends are constantly evolving, one would need to travel abroad to have first hand knowledge of what are happening in the developed and developing countries.
As one would be surprised to notice that in other countries even the transport systems are different. There are bus interchanges, LRT, monorails, subway systems, etc..
    Cheers

If it takes Africa embracing Chinese culture to completely remove poverty in Africa I'm all for it. The way you kichen and bathroom is laided out is not going to change your culture. Come on really stop complaining. Now let me ask you this question. Are condo's built to African or Asian or Russan standards in America? I don't think so. They are built American style why do you think the Chinese will do any differently. They will accomplish more in 10 years what the colonizers didn't do in 200 years.

I don't get the apartment topic, I can tell that is a bad case of design because it's not fit local people's many characteristics, which I don't get is you can simply not buying that, find a good apartment better than this one. You pay, you move in. simple as that. it's market.
what's the complaint about "NOT HEARING issue"?
Anyone can enlighten me about this? thx

but if you're in Kenya. Shouldn't you then learn Swahili and their culture? (I mean, of course if you wish to learn Chinese that's obvious. But if Chinese people wish to live in Africa, they should be taught the native tongue of the country)

C est notre seul salut ,voire même l unique moyen de nous affranchir et de nous débarrasser de tous les effets spéciaux et abrutissants des occidentaux.

Learn Chinese so the Chinese can give you the help you need . It's just the nature of the political objective. You don't have to care, just go with the flow. CHINA is the next super power so what are you gonna do. One thing for sure, the Chinese are not Colonizers so Africa can teach the Chinese the Africa language too. I wouldn't worry about the Chinese . It's the White men that you really have to worry about. White Men do not see Asian, African and other race as equals . Last, the Chinese are still learning so you will see alot of problems yet.

It is trick of China. As China has overproduced building materials, cement, steel China wants to dump these to other countries along with unemployed Chinese workers. It is giving loans in Yuan, which actually means no cash, but materials. The payments it will demand is either US$ or Gold or the country needs to buy an equivalent amount of goods from China. Thus, China gains in both ways, but the borrowing country will be ruined in the process. It will have to sell its port, or roads to China, destroying its domestic industry in exchange for unused houses, roads, bridges.
