Just wanted to add my two cents to this conversation. I have heard here in British Columbia that they will cover up to $5000 for anything aftermarket that is bolted to your van that you can have proof of receipt and proof of Install like a picture etc. I did not want to mention that in the video just in case the statement was false. That’s why I said do the research in your own area to see what’s covered. But I heard here in BC they will cover aftermarket stuff up to $5000 included in your insurance plan. Anyway I just want to give out false information so please do your research in your own area
The way bc works with insurance is similar to quebec...quebec you do pay for insurance but its cheap...think i was paying under 40$ but the big isurance you pay is included with your plate registration...its a bit expensive but you are protected from being sued if you had an accident that hurt someone...i wish ontario was like bc though with the insurance situation...
Thanks for making this video> I have a few Naysayers that think I was foolish to add $5,000 in Solar add a composting toilet and remove my roof-top AC. off my RV. I don't want to ever hear the sound of a generator. I have 1,005 watts of solar and 300 AH of Litiem BBB. I have put a small window AC unit in the back window and in a year or so will trade it out for a Mini Split.
Hey where did you purchase your screen/ mosquito thing for your side doors? Love the channel just bought me a Ford econoline about a month ago. Living the van life!!!
People act like houses don't burn down, have trees fall on them, etc etc etc. Not everyone has great homeowner's insurance. Most people renting skip renters insurance. Because they can't afford it and would lose everything if anything happened. And all you can do after a tragedy is start over with whatever you have. I wouldn't stress about it. Worrying about what *could* happen is just gonna stop you from living.
Dawn, I rented an apartment here in Ky, why lightning a tree and a branch fell on the dormer two separate times. And they say lightning don't strike twice in the same place. LAIRES.
That is why a “home base” like a small property somewhere in the wilderness with a tiny house on it would be the ideal backup. You could travel all you want and live in the van, but u would always have a place to go back to if needed, to take a break, or to rebuild a new van, etc. Hugs
No need for it for a nomad. Just costs and taxes and theft etc. The whole point is less stuff and more freedom! Many folks would let you use their property to stay on. I bet C and C get invites now!
‘What if’ is an overall rule of LIVING life regardless of lifestyle. Full-time RV nomad myself. My mother just passed away at 93. Her entire life was based on what if the sky falls. 93 years of existence but never lived. So sad. You got it, Bro. 👍
I was in the Northridge California earthquake in 1993 and lost EVERYTHING. And that wasn’t the only time. You know what I learned? It’s just stuff. My then husband was OK. MY dogs were OK. I was OK. The rest of it is just stuff.
In my state in USA it was recommended to register and insure my van as a work vehicle since it's so hard to get camper status for a self build. Insured hat way everything inside is also covered in case of theft ,fire, etc. I DO woodcarving/ building out of it , so I'm not scamming anyone, it's a legit workshop hiding a living space.
You have GOT to have those first images of Cruz made into an, "Oh, Lord. It's Monday." poster. He's so freakin adorable. Enjoy your videos. Keep it up.
you are right, since moving in my van I have learned to read all street signs, and drive much slower, look very carefully when stopped, but I thought that it had to do with: now I have the time in the world to check out the world around me
Rather get places 5 minutes slower than trying to make a light to save myself 30 seconds. If you got no place to be then you're exactly where you ought to be.
In Sask. if it's bolted, screwed or attached to your van it's insured. Keep your all your bills take pictures and store them somewhere else in case your van burns.
Omg- that’s exactly what I was thinking! I keep telling ppl you have to ask yourself if you die tomorrow (from whatever) how would you want your final days to have been lived...cooped up inside afraid of everything and everyone or doing what you love.
Rent is doing nothing but going up and up one RVer put it like this if she died today being on the journey is totally worth it just from all the folks she has met and the places she has explored and seen
You're right about being more careful about driving because I did. I didn't live in my van but it was my mobile office and made my bread and butter. At one time we had 5 vans all used and 6 years old up to 20 years old all trust worthy and maintained.
to be honest Chrome! this is a wonderful video with some really helpful life advice for people. I think we should all try to live happily in the moment. don't worry about things that might never happen. Create your own security with your otherwise thrown away rent money (as it can ease your heart) . But other than that, living van life, or living any simple life. you don't actually have that much stuff to loose, and even if you did. you can build it up in no time! stuff is not important, you life, your loved ones and your experience are!
I were in an accident last spring. I lost my home - an old RV Fiat Ducato 1989. Well, I lived in it for a couple of months with smash front. I found an Opel Vivaro 2015. I am broked - had to take a big loan. But I watched Chrome for a looong time, so I listened and now I slowly build my campervan. I LOVE VANLIFE ❤❤❤
Great video Chrome. Like you said the time you spend rent for a year you can buy a whole nother van and everything in it. Took your advice got a small DeWalt blower absolutely love it.
Blew the motor in my 1995 3/4 ton chevy van a while ago. Couldn't afford all the repairs. Got it towed to some property I own in western North Carolina. It is in my woods by a nice creek. Up on blocks where it will stay. Makes a very nice "Tin Can Cabin" as i named it.
Chrome you have such a great outlook on life! I appreciate your positivity and think a lot of people need to hear your “what if” philosophy right about now 😊.
I just love your videos. I am obsessed with watching them. I just discovered this lifestyle a few months ago. I would love to live the van life. I'm a camper and this would be a wonderful adventure. Unfortunately, I am raising my two grandsons and cannot live this lifestyle. Thank you for sharing your life.
While ICBC is far from perfect, it is so much better than I have experienced in other jurisdictions. The big difference is that ICBC is not about turning profits, just about covering their costs.
Totally agree with you we need to feel the fear and do it anyway. I remember taking mum to a Thailand tour from bankok to the Burma border it was the holiday of a lifetime and she kept saying what if we get sick a migraine or that we get bitten by a massive bug....I just kept pushing and she came and had the time of her life.and she still talks about it 20 yrs later
Take the $$ you would have spent on rent and content insurance and put in an emergency interest bearing account with a debit card. I really like that awning. Are you able to cook under it? I love cooking and eating in the outdoors!
Worrying is what we do while others are having a ball! I used to live in the future planning and worrying all the time now I take each day as it comes and live in the moment
I like that. I been in 2 accidents in my suv so far and both of them the other driver was found at fault but those two hassles were a pain in the bum i can only imagine once i customize it to camp out in. Accidents and theft is my two major worries.
Anything that is totalled can be kept by owner, I lived on boat for 7 years then a cruise boat broke loose and destroyed mine. Insurance asked me, do I want to keep it or not. A difference of 2000.00 dollars payout was my decision to make, Look at your policy.
Happened to me and my 1996 Chevy Astro. Manitoba Public Insurance. They wanted to give me 1.600.00 for I van I paid 5.000.00 for. MPI crooked as hell. They did not get my van. She's repaired and beautiful and we r travelling about.
I worry about this pretty frequently... The idea of crashing and loosing it all is realistic. I also worry about breaking an arm when trying something new on my bike, cant let worry run your life though
I think I am going to build one for myself a weekly vacation van for biking adventures still have to hit clock for the dollars but I am sold at this point on some adventure times to come. Thank you for the inspiration to do it stay blessed on the journey.
Great content! Chrome I wish you would do an episode on Canadien Healthcare. I know it veers off your usual topics, but it’d be nice to hear the truth about Canadian Healthcare instead of the US propaganda that socialized medicine is bad!
I'm glad you brought up the insurance because I had a lot of questions... Thanks Chrome.. Oh and Cruz we've all been face down ass up a time or two (in a non perv way)
One more thing, about self rescue. They make front mount receiver hitch that you can mount a wrench to when needed. each to install and remove. one pin. I'm putting one one my two wheel drive ram 1500.
After 2 months of reno, we lived in our van for all of 3 weeks before someone crashed into us on the highway. Still waiting on insurance but it may be a total loss. Probably the biggest challenge is being in Florida when our "home base" (parents) are all the way up in PA. If we have to salvage anything, it'll be a nightmare. Yet, we're alive. Uninjured. The dream may be gone, but we have our lives left to live. Gotta be content with that.
I definitely drive differently and much slower LOL I had a car that was kind of fast before and you can't drive that way with a van. Plus it is my home and has almost everything I own in it
I just picked up my first travel trailer which I will live in starting next week, It's was basically 2 years rent to purchase it. You can spend much less but I wanted space. Here in the lower 48 I got replacement insurance.
What “IF” two letters in the word of Life. Done a few things in my life spent the past 3 yrs living in a 24 ft RV loved it traveled across U.S. and parts of Canada downsized to a e250 econoline Van has it a week floor in and bed made and it’s ready to roll. It’s like having chores each day I try to improve on it by adding tables and cupboards etc you can still roll with it however it’s a work in progress I love my new van.

Well you certainly have proof all over UA-cam lol
Thanks for making this video>

Insurance in Aus so much more complicated. Lots of compliance.

Hey Dawn! How's the new van doing? Can't wait to see how you make it your own.
So true. And by the way, congrats!!! Saw the new home, can’t wait to see how you set it up.
Dawn, I rented an apartment here in Ky, why lightning a tree and a branch fell on the dormer two separate times. And they say lightning don't strike twice in the same place. LAIRES.
You it the point , we hope that others get it .
@@flowers4me745, yes I did. Crazy.
I hit Like just for Cruz's face at the beginning!! He really did look like he was hung over! Lol
Exactly why I liked the video
love chromes face
He was just practicing his downward dog. Later on he'll move on from yoga to Pilates with a big stretch 😂

If not that have a family member you can count on what a travel trailer in their backyard.
‘What if’ is an overall rule of LIVING life regardless of lifestyle.
Full-time RV nomad myself. My mother just passed away at 93. Her entire life was based on what if the sky falls. 93 years of existence but never lived. So sad.
You got it, Bro. 👍
My condolences, but wow. What a powerful message, thank you.

It's funny how Cruz bum was propped up and asleep on the seat . He is very cute
I love that cruzy, he’s makes my day😂
Sooo precious!!
You have GOT to have those first images of Cruz made into an, "Oh, Lord. It's Monday." poster. He's so freakin adorable. Enjoy your videos. Keep it up.
Chrome, I usually dont comment...but....
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!!
Amen Dede
Just like real life if it burns down you have to start out all again from scratch, much easier in a van though a lot less cost!!!
Amen!!!
Yup!
you are right, since moving in my van I have learned to read all street signs, and drive much slower, look very carefully when stopped, but I thought that it had to do with: now I have the time in the world to check out the world around me

Bulldogs are the best, they sure can make your day!!! Cruzzie Bear your adorable!!!
Love your videos Chrome, Thanks 💖
Cruzie is the cutest, I suppose he’s having the best dreams
Houses can disappear in a blink too! Hurricane, tornado, or wildfire. And you aren’t able to save anything inside!
Don't forget EARTHQUAKES can turn a house in to a pile really quick ...Oh and A SINKHOLE❗❗❗
Yep, it’s all about the insurance coverage.
I concur about everything you said. Don't be afraid to live your life because of the what ifs. Profound wisdom my friend.
In Sask. if it's bolted, screwed or attached to your van it's insured. Keep your all your bills take pictures and store them somewhere else in case your van burns.
Cruz is so cute with his toosh up in the air like that. Like a baby! Well, he is only a 1 year old! 😊
The entire world is doing the "WHAT IF" now
Omg- that’s exactly what I was thinking! I keep telling ppl you have to ask yourself if you die tomorrow (from whatever) how would you want your final days to have been lived...cooped up inside afraid of everything and everyone or doing what you love.
The great spirit is watching over you, Chrome and Cruz!!!

Cruz, you crack me up!!
Love Cruise. He sleeps in the most weirdest positions🤣🤣🤣
Salvage what you can and rebuild ✌😎🚐
Ain't mad at you Cruz, some morning I feel and look the same way. Lol
Happy "14th" Birthday to Danika!!! 🎁🎈
I always remember because one of my best friends daughter's b.d. also is on July 25th and turned 15 today!!! 🙂 ✌
In the states, we can also insure the INSIDE (Personal property) for $2,-3,00 over the van / RV.
Afternoon Chrome, I hope you are having a fantastic day!!!!!!! Be great, be awesome, and most importantly, stay weird!!!!!
It’s late coming back from the bar last night drinking too much so I want to sleep with my ass up leave me alone do not disturb me sincerely cruise

Thanks for the encouragement! Hitting the road soon! See ya out there!
😂😂😂😂 look at cruzybear just made my day
My grandma used to say, "don't borrow trouble."
Fires, Floods, earthquakes, tornadoes etc are possibilities with stick built housing so take that into consideration too.
What can you say? Isn't Cruz just fabulous!!
Your dog is a fantastic lad. Great video. Many thanks
Great video Chrome. Like you said the time you spend rent for a year you can buy a whole nother van and everything in it. Took your advice got a small DeWalt blower absolutely love it.

Love the tent and tires say safe.
Your country is a lot better than USA I'm from Mass a lot deferent
Blew the motor in my 1995 3/4 ton chevy van a while ago. Couldn't afford all the repairs. Got it towed to some property I own in western North Carolina. It is in my woods by a nice creek. Up on blocks where it will stay. Makes a very nice "Tin Can Cabin" as i named it.

OMG....I can't get past the opening minute!! Love that little Cruzie man!!
Two videos in one day. Thanks!
I just love your videos. I am obsessed with watching them. I just discovered this lifestyle a few months ago. I would love to live the van life. I'm a camper and this would be a wonderful adventure. Love your house, love Cruze, love what you do! Enjoy Chrome ❤️🤗
I love that music right at the start
While ICBC is far from perfect, it is so much better than I have experienced in other jurisdictions. The big difference is that ICBC is not about turning profits, just about covering their costs.
The main thing is Cruz and you are safe and alive........material things cab be replaced.
Totally agree with you we need to feel the fear and do it anyway. Well said and enough said thanks from y'all take care and be safe and I'll see you soon
If you live in fear you will never enjoy life. No risk no reward! I have cruised this part of the country many times. Keep On Trucking:)
Can I hit the like button 100,000 times? You are absolutely right Chrome. I love your videos man - I wish I had your creativity to finish my SUV setup
If you meet the requirements you can change the registration to an RV and get more coverage at a lower price.
Many companies in the USA will not sell you insurance if you convert a vehicle to a RV and are sleeping in it.
Really? Wow! So how do ppl get their vanlife homes insured here?
36 X $1,300= $48,600. That's a lot of van life! Safe travels!!
Right on Bro.
I like that. I been in 2 accidents in my suv so far and both of them the other driver was found at fault but those two hassles were a pain in the bum i can only imagine once i customize it to camp out in. Accidents and theft is my two major worries.
Man that van has came a LOOOOONG way brother. Awesome job man!

just get great insurance, but hope nothing happens to you and cruz,,, keep your eyes open dont drive sleepy,,,
OMG. Cruzie's sleeping position made me laugh so hard I had tears in my eyes. Have we not all had mornings like that? lol
Happened to me and my 1996 Chevy Astro. Manitoba Public Insurance. They wanted to give me 1.600.00 for I van I paid 5.000.00 for. MPI crooked as hell. They did not get my van. She's repaired and beautiful and we r travelling about.

Extra Extra Extra check those drawers are locked and secured 👍
Always so positive..love your attitude.
One more thing, about self rescue. They make front mount receiver hitch that you can mount a wrench to when needed. each to install and remove. one pin. I'm putting one one my two wheel drive ram 1500.
Excellent video. Lots to ponder about. Definitely an advantage to discuss things with your personal Insurance agent, especially in the States.
OMG, That Cruzzy Bear is too cute, I want him.
Don't forget the winch....weather will soon be brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ;)
Thank you so very much for sharing Chrome. Cruz make the show. Awesome. 👍❤️
Great video Chrome..... Cruz expression... priceless🤗🤗
Have fun and take care and take it easy and enjoy
Agree 100%. Also even if you did have an accident why not have a nice place to live in (your van) for that period of time is worth it
Chrome you are the man and don't let the small voices bother you
Sometimes a "total" might just be mechanical ... under the chassis or axle. You could essentially keep every cabinet, mattress, solar panel etc.
Going back watching some of your videos i hadnt seen. Needed to hear this today. Thank you!!❤❤❤😁
Be always positive....
Icbc is a great system. Wish it was same in Ontario
After 2 months of reno, we lived in our van for all of 3 weeks before someone crashed into us on the highway. Still waiting on insurance but it may be a total loss. Content insurance is worth it have a great day love 💕 cruz🦎🐶
I definitely drive differently and much slower LOL I had a car that was kind of fast before and you can't drive that way with a van. Plus it is my home and has almost everything I own in it
You are so funny Chrome You are blessed beyond thanks for all the info I have been with you for a year and one day I will be on the road becus of YOU
Risk vs. Reward...that's life!
I just picked up my first travel trailer which I will live in starting next week, It's was basically 2 years rent to purchase it. You can spend much less but I wanted space. Here in the lower 48 I got replacement insurance.
What “IF” two letters in the word of Life. It’s like having chores each day I try to improve on it by adding tables and cupboards etc you can still roll with it however it’s a work in progress I love my new van.
I love this. Looks like some that were on a drinking binge all night.
